 | News Comment | The Time For Managerial Change At Southampton Is Now at 15:01:42
Difficult to argue with Nick on this one. What is the point of Juric? He came in far too late to have any chance of keeping us up and now seems to be cynically trying to demonstrate to potential employers that it is the players ' fault and not his. Of course, he has a little bit of a point but even so he is clearly needs to go NOW. I wonder if he is angling for the sack so he can spend the next few weeks on paid leave - give him his wish I say. The whole thing stops at the door of SR. They are hopeless and I would like to see the club up for sale. I don't accept the idea that we will be relegation candidates next year but I don't trust SR to do the right thing to give us a realistic chance of promotion... |

I'm sure Nick is right. Juric seems to be messing around and the players want the season to end just as much as we do. Ultimate responsibility for managerial appointments and player recruitment/transfer market lies with SR. RM told everyone what he intended to do this season and competent/responsible ownership would have said to him during the summer: adapt or you will be replaced. Instead they let him p1ss away the small chance we did have. As for the Juric appointment, who knows? Given the whole season, or the vast majority he might have done something but the squad was always going to be too weak and uneven. Now he is just marking time, and, I think, cynically showing his potential future employers that it is the players who are no good, not him. I agree that Juric needs to go now but we know SR will wait too long, they always do - and who trusts them to make the correct appointment? I don't. We need a manager who maximise our chances next season but that person needs to be able to make the best possible fist of keeping us up if we were (small chance I fear) to get promoted. I would like to see the club put up for sale - we need, at least, competent ownership. NOW. As for the match - we can all just repeat until late May. |

This or away at Leicester are certainly our two best chances to reach the wondrous pinnacle of 12 whole points. If we do win the wild celebrations need to ignore the fact that it is a total can be reached in the first four games of the season! Perhaps we are due a home result against Wolves, maybe an atrocious VAR decision in our favour would help. Breath is not being held in the San Marco household though... |
 | News Comment | Former Saints Striker Could Be Coming Home ! at 14:24:44
Recent history with Theo and Adam suggests that ageing heroes are best left elsewhere. For this to have any chance of happening Ings has to accept he is finished in the top division. I suspect there will be some lower half or newly promoted Prem teams who might be happy to meet his wage requirements. |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Liverpool The Verdict at 10:39:30
The revolutionary idea of 4-4-2 with players playing in their right places worked quite well. Who would have thought it!! The VAR worked correctly to the extent that neither was a clear and obvious error. As long as if the ref had made the opposite decision on both, they would also have NOT been overturned then that is how it needs to be. We know from earlier in the season though that 'clear and obvious' is not consistently interpreted. Unless mistakes are blatant I think VAR should only get involved if the ref has not seen something. Also there should be a rule change so that a footballer collapsing is seen as a medical matter unless the propulsive force applied to him was adequate to send an average person down. i.e. if Nick was in the bar and was nudged like Nunez was he would have no choice but to crumble like a sack of the proverbial. Also on the red card - I was, in the end, secretly pleased that in the second half we lost against 11. I'd put my mortgage on the fact we would have lost anyway and this way was less disappointing - and we had the first pen to moan about!! PS note to future managers - if we play Liverpool while Sugarwara is still here DONT play him. PPS Anyone else remember all those incessantly whining scousers after the game at our place. All decisions seem to have been just fine this time... |
 | News Comment | Southampton Have Ivan Juric Replacement Lined Up at 15:07:20
Rohl is not the worst idea. Good ideas are not SR's forte though... I agree with the Juric out now view Nick. What is the point of him? If he is alienating those vital players for next season then it seems obvious that NOW is best. There is not a manager on this or any other planet who could keep us up now - so keeping a negative force is pointless. |
 | News Comment | Crystal Palace Linked With Southampton Defender at 09:24:19
I know these are only rumours but it always interesting to see the level of clubs interested in various players. Like Downes, Harwood-Bellis has not really moved forward this season. Not all his fault of course (and some would say not his fault at all) but a fact nonetheless. I doubt we will see Liverpool and Arsenal in the rumours in coming weeks... |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Brighton The Verdict at 11:14:51
We are now well into the longest relegation post-mortem in history and like A1079 I can't think of anything more to say about the shambles on the pitch. Hats off to Nick - he has twelve more verdicts to write, not an enviable job. For what it's worth I am not as hard on the players as some. In my youth I played in some sh1t teams and it is tough. I think Juric is playing some sort of stupid game, perhaps hoping to be sacked. He inherited a near impossible situation and he appears to be doing everything he can to prove that it was impossible. (The fact that it almost certainly was does not excuse him.) We are going down in a far worse situation than last time. We had three big money sales in the bank last time, our sellable assets this time will, combined, not fetch what we got for JWP. If SR are capable of learning (big IF) then they need to get a manager in now for the promotion effort. Not some RM type appointment who might get us up but would be hopeless if we got up. It is SR's fault that we played like we did at the start of the season. RM just did what he said he was going to do and his employers let him. Message to the tiny minority of 'RM would have kept us up' blowhards: wake up and make yourself some strong coffee... |
 | News Comment | Adam Armstrong Leaves For West Bromwich Albion On Loan at 09:06:31
I think this is a rare wise move on SR's part. As most have said Adam is a hard worker but if he was good enough for this division he would have proved it by now - even in poor Saints teams. In a poor team the main goal scorer has to take the half chances. Swap Adam for Ings (at his peak) and we would have more points this season. I hope we keep Adam for next season and then sell him if we are promoted again... |
 | News Comment | Southampton ! Can This Team Make A Name For Itself at 13:23:28
Goodness me - optimism!! We were due a bit of luck and it came along in the form of the Ipswich keeper. It wasn't a particularly good performance though so the club were right not to arrange an open-top bus parade. Knowing SR that would get lost en-route anyway. It would end up at Poopey Town Hall. If we beat Bournemouth and Brighton then we can start doing the maths - until then I shall just enjoy the unfamiliar feeling of a win. |
 | News Comment | Southampton Sign Victor Udoh at 13:18:37
I thought the end of the transfer window said a lot about SR's expertise and wisdom. Sadly not in a way that will fill any Saints fan with confidence. I know the nonsense of the 'slamming shut' of the window always creates a bit of chaos but trust SR to be all at sea yet again. It is good that they didn't waste millions this time - if everyone knows it will be wasted then why bother to spend it? We are in this lot's hands to get us back up and I have to say I am not over optimistic. If I heard that SR had bought a brewery I would know one place not to go for a p1ss up... |
 | News Comment | Southampton At Nottingham Forest The Verdict at 12:12:19
Juric will have now worked out that go strong at the start and we shed goals late on. Do the opposite and the game is over by half-time. Why not just play your best 11 and keep em on for the duration. It happened for many decades. Hugh Fisher didn't even get on in 76. Please don't say they are not fit enough. Their only real job is to get and stay fit. They clearly don;t practice minor details like defending or shooting... |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Swansea City The FA Cup Preview at 12:35:38
The fact that I barely care about this game tells me all I need to know about what 'they' (EPL, corporatisation, Sky, whoever) have done to the FA Cup. This used to be one of the biggest days of the year (although now it is nearer a whole fecken week) but now the dominance of 'big club' attitude and mindset has reduced it to near nothing. The fact it is allowed to be on mainstream TV says it all. The cup starts at the quarters now and for clubs like Saints to reach the final it is now squeezing through to the last eight and hoping to the get the one other 'small' club left (The word Grimsby just came into my head) and then you still need a miracle in the semi against a full-strength big boy... I of course hope we win but will it really matter if we don't? Imagine asking that question before some of those classic cup games at the Dell??!! |
 | News Comment | Southampton V Brentford The Verdict at 21:49:13
Totally understandable that the blame is being thrown around. Yesterday was abysmal. Just a couple of observations: Our problems are down to the decisions made by SR. The appalling lack of understanding of what is needed to run a club at this level is there for all of us to see. This includes allowing Russel Martin to continue his mad experiment - RM was part of the problem but now he is finally gone anger should be directed towards those who 'run' the club. Anything else is a distraction, particularly laying into the new manager. The idea that starting Armstrong instead of Sulemana would have had us knocking the goals in is laughable. Loads of people (possibly even Nick?) were all for Tall Paul a few weeks ago. Juric has taken over a demoralised and far too weak squad and he is not going to produce a miracle - no other manager would have produced one either. Let's direct our despair and anger at those who have caused this steaming pile of poopey. As for fans leaving after 70 minutes - I salute you all for lasting that long... |
