We showed yesterday that when we cut out the suicidal passing we can keep a clean sheet.

Martin-ball was certainly responsible for so many errors and points dropped, but maybe playing like that could have been justified if we're been more able to convert possession into goals.

Now that Martin is gone and we seem more able to play with some measure of pragmatism, getting the ball into the net is still going to be our biggest issue.

Armstrong, Fraser, Brereton-Diaz and Cornet don't look like to me they are now up to it at this level.

Archer and Dibbling are, and we just don't know about Tall Pall. I think if he gets a goal and we work out how to feed him, he might be able to succeed but maybe not.

Likewise Sullemana - is there a player in there that we haven't seen yet?

But, even so, our attacking needs strengthened and re-vamping in January for us to have any chance of staying up.

Anyone got any thoughts on who we might be able to get?

And what about Smallbone? He was able to thread some lovely passes in the play-off games. We've not seen much of that from anyone else.

Adam Armstrong is a good lad and a great Saint, but he doesn’t cut it as a PL striker.

Didn’t last time. Doesn’t this time around.

It’s a pity. Would love him to succeed but we should sell him to a Championship team in January.

We should build a team around Tall Paul up front, or sell him too in Jan. Think the new guy will decide this quickly.

Better times ahead.

This.

Both games this week have shown how things might have been this season without Martin’s stubborn tactical stupidity.

This.

If SR hadn't proved themselves to have no clue, I might feel differently but they have.

More of the same from the idiots in charge.

Someone who's actually won a Premier League game would be a start.

I'm not sure what planet this Board are on?

This guy does not have the pedigree to turn our season around.

This has got to be a 'managing expectations' exercise.

Make us so depressed about Coberan coming that we're all super excited and relieved when they appoint Rohl instead.

If true, another underwhelming appointment.

Although I guess by the law of averages one of these Championship managers is going to cut it in the PL one day.

At some point soon Onuachu is going to score at St Mary's and the roof is going to come off!

And then the floodgates will open.

He's scored everywhere else. He's just stuck at the moment.

After leaving the Spurs game after 15 minutes, I couldn't face another long trip from Dorset.

But watched on TV and really enjoyed it.

I might have been imagining this but I had a real sense of a Saints team trying to play 'proper' football and it really highlighted for me how the stuff we have been watching with Martin was just such alien way to play, and such an unenjoyable thing to watch.

Of course, that final refereeing decision was an absolute joke and it reminds us of why there was such a clamour for VAR. Even so, I would rather watch a non-VAR game any day of the week. Better a slow, blind ref makes a howler than some nerd a million miles away on a PS5.

Corberan West Brom saints interested

I'm not sure there's too much of a risk for any new manager, as the Board have dithered so much as to leave us in such a dire situation, any new manager who fails, could point to the impossible job.

No sure though what the track record is for 'experienced' managers turning things like this around. I think Hodgson was good as it and Hughes did the business for Saints, but Allardyce and Moyes both failed to keep clubs ups - others too, I'm sure.

Whoever we get, the Board has already screwed us.

Robins always seem to start badly for Cov and then they would slowly climb the table over the rest of the season.

Someone who can climb the tale from a poor start is exactly what we need!

Rohl
at 15:21 16 Dec 2024

I'm sure Rohl is good. Despite what Nick says, there was a real sense at the time that something changed when he last left.

But the problem with appointing someone who's not managed in the PL before is that we never know whether bad results are down to their inexperience or the quality of the players.

Moyes failed to keep Sunderland up but he clearly knows what he is doing at this level.

He has got to be the best option and the club need to persuade him to try again to save a team in red and white.

He's got 22 games to find 8 wins and 8 draws.

Southampton FC Sack Russell Martin

5 nil at half time forced them to sack him.

They would never have made the decision on their own. The previous 15 games proved that.

I rarely leave a game before the end.

I couldn’t sit there any more after the third.

Leaving a match after 15 mins. Ridiculous but I don’t feel bad about it.

These cretins have pushed the fan base far enough.

Are football managers immune from 'Fair Dismissal?
at 09:35 11 Dec 2024

I don't think we need to concern ourselves with the terms of individual contracts.

Buy good players, sell poor ones.

Try to get and keep performing managers. Sack failing ones.

It's pretty basic and (take away all the bells, whistles, agents and sell on clauses) and it's always been the same.

Lost 80% of games this season. That's all anyone needs to know.
