Absolutely do not believe Saito has a malicious bone in his body.

Frey does give everything and his work rate/attitude is excellent. Technically, he is sadly lacking at this level.

Saito’s challenge was a tired looking lunge that caught the player right on his calf and looked worse than it probably was. Not malicious, but left the ref no choice.

Great effort today considering our injury list. Looked more up for it than the Middlesbrough game at least. International break could not have come at a better time as we need some respite after a really tough month.

Why not?
Has more natural ability than any of their players.

Plymouth have got some steel under their new manager, we’re still soft as shit and piss easy to score against.

With Chair now injured, it’s time to ditch that front 3 and drop Saito and Yang to the bench.
Smyth back on the right side, Anderson on the left and Dembele down the middle.

We need fresh legs and fresh ideas.

Alfie Lloyd

22 isn’t young. If he was 19 you could forgive his lack of, well, everything other than enthusiasm.

He is not the answer for us next season. He needs to play a full season in a lower league and improve. Shouldn’t be anywhere near the first team until then. Having him available as our only fit striker is shocking.

Chair on today's game

Fancy words not needed for what’s missing SE, it’s “experience”. Something that cannot by imbued by a coach, even one of Pep’s calibre.

Chair on today's game

Saito, Yang, Morgan, Lloyd…..absolute newbies to this league and basically kids.

We all get frustrated, me included, but we also very much need to be realistic. They can’t be faulted for effort, but naivety should be expected.

Chair on today's game (n/t)
at 07:45 9 Mar 2025

Sitting on the subs bench is hardly going to help his fitness levels. Playing competitive games after a prolonged spell out with injury is what is needed to get “match fit” and regain his pace and sharpness.

Having said that, Chair is not the problem. Not having a striker worth a shit up front to pass to is the problem.

We need Spurs to buy Eze and somehow move Madsen and Celar on whilst recouping some of the money we wasted on buying them.

It’s also looking like we will lose Dunne, Cook, Paal, and Edwards from our current back line.

Recruitment will be needed and it needs to be bang on. Get it right and we could kick on. Get it wrong and we could backslide.

It will be a hugely important summer window that will define our trajectory for next season.

The Morgan - Varane - Field midfield
at 08:48 26 Feb 2025

It definitely has to be horses for courses. Our line up should reflect the threat posed by the opposition and our strategy required to counter it.

The line up against Portsmouth for instance, left us short in the areas needed to repel their aerial bombardment and direct approach. Our inability to get Chair, Saito and Smyth on the ball without being assaulted clearly required a different approach. The substitutes helped and in hindsight, Colback and Lloyd might have been better being in from the start.

The line up against Sheffield Utd this Saturday will be interesting.

Eze

Eze is utter class and cannot believe he has not been snapped up by one of the big boys. They keep gambling on mediocre foreign players when one of the best English players in the league is right under their noses. Bonkers.

Away form?

He has ability, but had a stinker today. Still not fully attuned to the mixed nature of the demands of this league. Utter hoofball garbage from Pompey today, mixed with aggression and a febrile atmosphere.

They knew we have a soft underbelly and nullified our playmakers accordingly. Varane will have to get used to it or he will soon lose his place in the side. In hindsight, that was a game more suited to Colback.

The line up should be reflective of the opposition. Poor Koki got battered from the off. Colback should have started and maybe Chair replaced with AL.

You have to at least attempt to match the opposition, especially away from home.

The ball has spent most of the time in the air, league 2 football.

Our forward line has got stiff necks watching this shit. Get it on the deck and we might get somewhere.
