Hard to gauge this one on ticket sales.

just read somewhere that Southampton have only sold about 10000 tickets for the match including approx 600 to us. They have moved our fans to the other side of the ground and are closing one stand for the game. Should be a cracking atmosphere....not

agree Onehunglow....a chance to make some money for the coffers and perhaps get a televised home draw against one of the big boys in the next round ...if we put out a strong side though otherwise a defeat.

I'd prefer putting a strong side out at Cardiff, after so many games over the last couple of weeks, some need a rest

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

I agree, not because it's Cardiff it could be any team, but the players need a rest.

We have only 20 league games left to play in 4 months with just a handful of midweek fixtures.

This is the FA Cup. It’s a chance to go through and to generate some excitement around the club with the possibility of making further progress

The players do not need a rest. They prefer to be playing games. Ronald looks jaded but that’s because he’s inconsistent with his performances. He’s fit and young. Play a strong team to give ourselves a chance of going through.

Only an idiot would eat a turkey curry on Christmas day

The Pompey and WBA games say different they looked knackered after 3 games in a week which showed how threadbare are squad is

You are right with regards wanting to bring some excitement and success to the club.

My view still remains that another loss will result in Luke getting closer to the trap door. I still believe even now he isn’t far away in any event. The new investors haven’t been in a good place regards this since it all kicked off after Portsmouth away. Investors who want to see winners and who have put 21 million into the club.

When we say "rest players". Surely they could wind down their training in between matches.

I'm not sports scientist, but are you telling me that 6 calendar days is not enough time to recover?

I'm not denying the effort they put in on match day isn't gruelling, but they have 6 full days to recover... Training would be optional if they needed a rest surely?

Get yourself home, couple of pints of Guinness, get some pasta and a protein shake down you, chill out on the Monday, game of golf on a tuesday and they should be good to go again from the Wednesday.

You can rest when your dead (or in the summer).

Strong as possible team please, pile the misery on the scum who tried/did rip us off with our previous managers compensation and hopefully we'll get a big tie in the next round!

Great post
Times were players down a pit then came home, napped in a chair then caught us t play football when pitches were vile,a ball of death to play with and cabbage patch pitches .
Tiday, like many young mem, they are simply soft ,proven on the pitch being hurt by innocuous conteacts

I don’t know how seriously they will be taking this, but their first team beats ours quite easily. They finished 4th last season and spent £100m in the summer.

I’m not sure that going there with our best eleven would get a result anyway. Our players looked fried against Portsmouth and Luton (I’m sure Williams’ comments didn’t help matters, but they were clearly fatigued anyway).

I’d be using this as a chance to play the likes of Abdulai and Lloyd. Keep the lads who play every week on the bench or out of the squad. Grimes and Cullen have dropped from their usual levels lately. I’d be resting them, but I don’t think Williams will.

Resting players who have not played for 8 days?

It’s the FA Cup not the Pontins Midland Reserve cup.

Lots of money and pride at stake.

As for Southampton their confidence is low and the crowd will be quiet and small comparatively so it’s a good time to play them. We owe it to our fans and club to give it the best shot.

Resting players ? They are young footballers. Get out there and do your job.

Though in fairness we played 4 games in 10 days with just 2 days "recovery" in between each game and we would have been travelling to.
Players would have had 7 days recovery time since the West Brom game though they will have had to travel down.
Personally I'd like to see us give this game a go as has been said we could win and draw a big side at home which will help the coffers and possibly bring back some fans.
Then there is whammy of no replay so should it be a draw after 90 mins then it goes to extra time....would we want that with the Cardiff games in 7 days though they have an extra game as they play tonight then again on Tuesday night getting only an average of 3 .6 days recovery between games whilst we will have 6 days between games albeit we do have to travel and they don't for their games.
it's going ro be a tough call for Luke....he needs wins otherwise to quote him
forever if I do not help us produce good football and try and get out of this division. I would not expect anyone to.

So he has to deliver

There is a great photo out there of Nat Lofthouse as he finishes a night shift ,complete with empty sandwich box,off home to have some snap and a nap then catch the bus to play in front of 50,000 at Burnley park on a cabbage patch.
Tough times,tough men

Now,,even our modest club has soft, effete employees who are financially secure and they’ve not reached 30 .The likes of Allen and Naughton simply topping up their pension pots.

Few modern day beauts know anything about hard work,as our forefathers did .

I have posted on this subject of player fatigue before.
I dint understand how professional athletes should suffer from it.
Compare 12 hr shitdt underground 5 days a week with what 12 hours between.
But it doesnseem to happen apparently

Can we afford to sack him.
Luton looking for a new manager has he ruled himself out yet and Plymouth.

Go on you know it makes sense.

When they rest ,they don’t do so effectively .
I’ve sone a bit of conditioning in my time
I’ve also worked horrific hours that would shatter these footballers
Dockers ,Shipbuilders ,miners, steelworkers, farmers ,Fishermen all had far greater exhausting jobs and infinitely more dangerous too.
It gets me going just to see them wearing gloves and tights

Because we have a thin squad our better players are playing more minutes than the better players from other clubs in the championship who have bigger squads, that's why we struggle after 60 mins of most games.

Clubs with bigger squads can manage players fatigue far better than us simply because they have bigger squads.

Imo our players who play most minutes should be rested in preparation for the scum game but that's just my opinion.

Clubs spend a fortune on medical science and a support structure for players, yet some supporters think they know better. If the science says they are ready to play they will be considered if not they won't. In cup games teams are often shuffled about, even those with stronger squads than us.
