I remember reading that. Loads of pre-punk stuff that was suggested, but agree that this was probably the definitive record.

I did though always think that one of the earliest ancestors/originators of punk could be traced back to the Kinks:



an original garage band so to speak.

Have put up a different link. Ain't it Fun was also covered real well by Guns & Roses.

Lots of good Oz punk out there from the early days. Loved listening to the Saints on the trannie in the 70s.
