Non-QPR, The Telegraph pub, Putney 17:25 - Jun 26 with 3359 views | supahoopsa | https://www.brunningandprice.co.uk/telegraph/ My grandparents used to own this pub in the 1950's up until about 1970. I'm was too young to remember anything about the pub, but I was wondering if anyone on here has any memories of it that they could share

I heard it had closed down too,but looking at their website,I guess it hasn’t.And I did start my driving lessons from Telegraph Road back in the early 80’s.
Non-QPR, The Telegraph pub, Putney on 20:35 - Jun 26 with 3204 views | colinallcars | I was a huge Youngs fan when it was brewed in Wandsworth and often went to the Green Man just down the road from the Telegraph. The Telegraph looked a nice pub but it was Watneys or Whitbread so it was a no-go area. The Green Man was a pub steeped in history and it was said they used to hang highwaymen just outside. It had a wonderful cobbled floor dating back hundreds of years but they had to cover because of Health & Safety. The Telegraph looks good from its website and so presumably has some Real Ale now. I'll pop in when I can.

I used to go to Elliott school which was not far from the Green Man.It always used to be a friday haunt after school in the 6th form, even with the teachers in the other bar,But my local was the Angel in Roehampton high st,another Young’s pub.A couple of pints of Ordinary was all I needed to get me drunk at 15 in there. That’s probably all it would take now too.

I know all these pubs well ! I'm old enough to remember going into the Angel when the really old boys still spoke with a country accent. It was a huge blow when Youngs stopped brewing their own ale. The stuff that goes by the name of Youngs these days is a travesty.

And there was the novelty of seeing it delivered to the local pubs by horse and cart.I just don’t understand why they sold up and moved to Bedford? It was a Wandsworth institution as Fullers is to Chiswick and Guinness is to Dublin. Especially now when proper ales are all the rage.

Once old John Young died the jig was up. The younger family members had wanted to flog the brewery for flats, get someone else do the brewing and just concentrate on hospitality. Similarly, Fullers have sold the brewing business to a Japanese company and are concentrating on the hospitality side of the business. So far though, the beer is fine and still being brewed in Chiswick. No one knows what the future is brewing though, if you'll forgive the pun.
