Makes you realise how astute Palace have been - they are very similar to QPR in terms of core support, trophies (or lack of) and last 50 years of history. If only we had slowly, methodically and unobtrusively built a team of ‘good’ players in the premier; rather than go hell for leather and buy super-stars.

Very good point, I have a lot of time for how Palace have built a steady position in the Premier league. We are similar clubs in a way in terms of history, support base in terms of locality etc. It was a good move for Eze to go there.

I know what you mean , once he isnt our player who cares ?

But ....in Ezes case he put the effort in right to the last whistle of the last game , he didnt talk about leaving and remained good natured and respectful towards us .

He is a nice young fella and i am enjoying watching him do what he does , like you I hope he goes for 50 mil and we get some more cash

Eze is up there with Stanley, Rodney, Adel and a few others as real Rangers number 10's that it gave us great pleasure to watch.

I can still enjoy watching him and willing him to greater things, knowing he really started his career with us.

We don't have much other joy at the moment.

A good achievement certainly but not sure what is really so astute or methodical about it. They've just hung in there best they could, same as West Ham or Newcastle.

A succession of relegation specialists (10 months of Pulis, 4 months of Warnock, 5 months of Allardyce) then tried and failed a couple of expensive times to establish themselves playing a different style (two years of Pardew, 10 weeks of de Boer), then reversion to a hybrid under Hodgson.

Could all very easily come back down again when they have to move on from him and/or Zaha.

Palace, like us, are just one of a number of medium sized clubs that will have some time in the prem, maybe a little in league 1 but most of it in the championship. It's cyclical which is why it's important to not overstretch finances and be prepared for the inevitable relegation. The key is to overperform in order to increase the time spent in the prem, which usually comes from being a well-run club so won't be us for a long while.

You're right, we're not a well run club. You might have the right ideas but they still have to be good decisions made on a continual basis. The last premiership debacle of 2014/15 is long enough ago now to stop blaming it for all of our ills. We have seen consistent season-upon-season decline over the last 6 years of our playing staff. We're now left with our thinnest and least talented squad since the dark old days of League 1.

Is that Warburton's fault....I say not.

Totally agree with this - whereas I have lost a lot of interest in football because of the BOS type attitudes, I have a lot of respect for Eze, who came across as having a very respectful and honourable personality.

Interestingly Martin Keown said what we often used to say about Eze - should be played more through the middle - had 2/3 shots on target when he was there.

Also noticed he did what he did here - when Palace were struggling, dropped back into his own half on the left, where he was obviously not going to hurt Villa from there.

Final point, he's never going to be much use as a covering midfielder when Palace don't have the ball - he needs to try to develop that side of his game as well.

Much as I don't like the bloke, the amount of work Grealish put in yesterday when Palace had the ball was impressive.

Fear Eze may be the victim for a few games to get Palace tighter at the back.

PS Bentake back to 'normal' I see!

I should hate Grealish more than most but he is turning into some player not just for Villa but England .His drive and desire is top notch and the way he goes box to box always willing to counter and defend admirable. He is becoming a reliable scorer too and thats with even more attention /kicking from opposing teams ..
He will be in the starting 11 for England at the Euros and for the next decade IMO

Don't think he gets 'kicked' quite as often or as hard as it often appears
