Most seem to use chilled pre prepared chips from a wholesaler, used to have a great tattie farming industry but no one uses the local supply. I don't know the name of the place but the best restaurant is in a small place called St Just's Cornwall.
The best take away is about a 5 minute walk from Grimsby's ground.
It is or at least should be one of the food laws of England that you should eat properly prepared mushy peas with fish and chips, so in that case if you want properly prepared mushy peas then you'll have to move up North as we don't have the ability to make proper mushy peas down here.
On a separate matter anyone who puts cheese on peas (mushy or non mushy) is a twiglet.
Finally, if per chance you should ever be transported to Australia for crimes against this once great nation of ours the you're in the shit, they are fcking useless at making fish and chips, absolutely useless. |  |

Agree Ted. Thats why the Pommy owner of Chumley Warner makes a fortune .it's a mecca for Poms who miss real British fish n chips.Standing in the really long queue every Friday you can hear every accent from Lands End to John,O'groats over to Donegal down to Kerry then back again.
Fair play to him ,although he's pricey he's got it bang on. He only uses North Atlantic fish, real spuds etc ,etc. He even imported his frying system and potato chipper over from Leeds apparently.
I must say tho during the enforced absence of real Fish in real batter , I have become rather fond of crumbed barramundi .However since Chumley's has opened I haven't tasted it.That says a lot | |

When Kings in Northfields first opened it was amazing -- proper old school, everything fresh and service by a couple of sorts on a Friday night full of good manners thank you sir kindly please thank you enjoy your dinner Sir.
Then they cashed in on their success and sold to a bidder for the lease and goodwill.... before you know it there's an elephants foot in the corner, halal sticker in the window and fresh from frozen crap dished up.
Now I'd say the best one I frequent is the one next to Hammersmith Oden -- always go there before a gig there or if in 'Smith Braodway late doors.

I love fish and chips, but finding a consistently good outlet is hard. Best chippies I've been to, there is or was a wooden shack type cafe, right on the beach at Dunwich in Suffolk. Fish right out of the sea into batter, down the gullet. There is a great fish and chip shop in the centre of Horsham, Sussex. It's changed hands a few times down the years, but is always of a high standard. It's only open during daytime hours. Whenever I see my folks, I still pay it a lunchtime visit. My old mum loves it too and she used to hate the stuff! Another great chippie was in Stranraer on the harbour. The name is lost on me now, but I know I'll be back if I'm over that way.
