How Much Do Saints Players Earn ? Read Here And Be Surprised
Saturday, 25th Mar 2017 09:22

A daily newspaper has revealed how much the current Saints squad earns, so who do you think will be the highest earner and how much will he trouser each week.

The Daily Star has revealed how much each player in the Saints squad earns and there are a few shocks along the way. I am assuming that these are the basic salaries rather than the full renumeration with appearance money and bonus's to be added

Lowest paid in the squad is allegedly Matt Targett who is on a mere £10k a week with Jack Stephens being on £12k, next up are Jake Hesketh, Harrison Reed, Sam McQueen and Josh Sims all on £18k.

Now we jump from the promising youngsters to the established professionals and we start with Cuco Martina on £20k , Maya Yoshida on £28k and Florin Gardos on £30k.

No it is in to those who can be considered true first team contenders and here is the first shock our newly capped England players Nathan Redmond and James Ward Prowse are on a mere £35k a week although this may now rise as players usually have clauses in their contracts that they will get a pay rise should they get an England cap.

Another surprise is that we are allegedly paying Jeremy Pied £40k a week, this seems an awful lot for a player signed as back up on a free transfer.

The Daily Star then show that perhaps their research is not as accurate as it should be, I cannot believe that Jason McCarthy a player yet to break into the first team squad and currently on loan at Walsall is on £40k a week, however it could be that Alex McCarthy our back up goalkeeper is pocketing that for being injured most of the season.

Jordy Clasie is next up on £40k and then Pierre Hojbjerg on £50k.

Now we have the established first team regulars and there are a raft of players on £55k a week, Steven Davis, Fraser Forster, Jay Rodriguez, Ryan Bertrand, Charlie Austin and Cedric Soares all get this.

Shane Long is on £60k as is Dusan Tadic Oriol Romeu and Sofiane Boufal.

So into the clubs top three earners, surprisingly Virgil Van Dijk is not top he gets a mere £65k a week and the next surprise is that he is joined by Martin Caceres who so far has had approaching half a million by the time the next game comes along without having kicked a ball for the first team.

Top of the pile though is Manolo Gabbiadini on £80k a week, most of which he spends on haircuts or perhaps not, this shows how much we have to pay these days for players of that quality and it is only going to get harder to keep paying these wages going forward.

Football in general is heading for another implosion if we are not careful, there are so many foreign players over here for a reason and that reason is money, few teams across Europe pay the sort of cash you can get from a Premier League club.

So what do you think of these figures, whilstI don't think they are entirely accurate I do think that they are not too far off the mark and don't forget these players will earn significantly more through bonus's both throughout the season based on performance and at the end of it when on July 1st each year we have to give them a big chunk as a sort of loyalty bonus.

So who do you think is giving us value for money and who do you think is draining our resources ?

Nick, Nick have you no pride? Who in their right minds reads the Daily Star?

Quoting it sets an all time low on this site. Go wash out your mouth with soap.

As to what players earn as the man said "Frankly lady I don't give a damn!"

If you spot the small print they quote their source as the computer game 'Football Manager'. Not real in the slightest and possibly a new low in the Star's sports journalism as now just playing a computer game constitues as journalistic research!

"a daily newspaper" is an interesting description of the Star - it comes out daily and is made of paper I suppose but you would get more news in a Trump tweet...

To quote the Canadian Sociologist, Marshall McLuhan "All media exist to invest our lives with artificial perceptions and arbitrary values". In other words, the media makes it up as it goes along. The Daily Star is only reliable for its predictability.

I hear that Pompeys highest earner is on a bag of chips and a can of Vimto, although with finances as they are this doesn't run to any salt for the chips.

So they have a contract of employment but come July we have to pay them a loyalty bonus. Presumably for not leaving during their contract. Pathetic.
