Town, Coventry and Leeds are all reported to be interested in adding 19-year-old Aston Villa midfielder Gary Gardner to their squads, the Premier League side having made the England U21 international available for loan.

Central midfielder Gardner, the brother of Sunderland midfielder Craig, came through the ranks at Villa Park like his older sibling.

He has played for England at U17, U19, U20 and U21 level and the 6ft 2in tall youngster broke into the Villa first team in pre-season but is yet to make a competitive appearance.

Gardner recently netted two late goals in the England U21 side’s 5-0 victory over Iceland at the Weston Homes Community Stadium in Colchester.

Thursday is the final day on which Football League clubs can sign players on loan, with the deadline 5pm.
