| News Comment | Derby Land Former Birmingham Trainee On 3 Year Deal! at 15:50:08
Not much being said about what Stephen Bywater has planned, with him probably now being 3rd if not 4th choice goalie. It is also amazing that he goes from being the best goalkeeper in the Championship (Re: Nigel Clough) mid way through last season... to not being wanted at the end. For my two penneth, he would be about right for Burton Albion as a straight swop, but can they afford to risk such mind boggling ball distribution like the ''perm any one from 22'' as he boots it down the field of play (and sometimes out of it). |
| News Comment | RamZone Owen Opinion - Should Derby Make Michael Marquee? at 16:01:32
Yep, my first thought were the injuries too. I think we would need an extra space in the physio/treatment room reserved just for him. But i could be wrong and, with the departure of Robbie we DO need a 'name' of some stature at the club who would keep us not only buzzing on the field, but also in the media..he is capable of both of those qualities to some degree. I would also hope that as his wage bill would weigh pretty heavy on the accounts, some clause should be there to avoid huge wages being paid if he is out injured for a few games, that is unless they have an insurance policy that covers such issues. Whoever we do sign in the coming months, weve got to bring in one or two leaders that stand out in the team..well thats what i am thinking. |
| News Comment | Sending Off Sav - Nothing Game Means Something! at 06:11:38
With regard to Robbies pending departure, this for me will be a sad moment. Yes, i like many others held a particular dislike for the bloke before he became one of us, but then within a very short time my mind changed to delight that we had him. The game needs characters, the team and the club does too. Were going to lose that next season with Robbie gone, he has shown a lead on the pitch which has made up for his lack of pace and other skills. He constantly lets the Refs know about suspect decisions, pressuring them throughout the game to a point where many will be actually wondering if they are actually getting it wrong. His simple distribution of the ball around midfield looks easy, but more often than not it has kept possession whilst many others have lost it. Sadly, a bunch of our supporters never accepted him, i still hear some boos when his name is called as the team is announced and, they also keenly shout their discontent when he gets it wrong on the pitch. But there are many great contributions by Robbie on and off the pitch that are far wider than just the basic football skills, these clearly make him stand out from most of the other 21 players out there. Who's going to fill that gap? Overall we perhaps got to know him as a Derby player a little too late in his career, but no Derby County supporter can deny that he has brought added media attention to our club which is key in this business. We have had increased publicity through him and just about all in a positive sense. Next season that will be a loss on and off the pitch, as I said before, the club needs a character, at least one to lift and push the team on, to bring attention and publicity to the club. This will be a difficult void to fill and for me, a spark of light will be lost when he's gone. |
| News Comment | Glick's RaMasterplan - Will You Renew? What Do You Think? at 13:12:16
All Derby supporters that i personally know and, those who sit near me at Pride Park who have expressed an opinion, were going to renew their season tickets regardless, as i was. I accept that many so called fans were having second thoughts and for them, it is a great option to be able to get a refund. I also accept that sadly, we always have the moaners just like with any football club who, it is difficult to please at our level anyway but maybe even they will find some acceptance of this goodwill gesture, we'll see. There is little point in harping on about the negatives of this season, we all wanted better than what we got but, for a true and loyal Derby supporter we have to have hope and, when that first saturday of the new season starts, what else are you going to do as you see the fans making their way to the match? A spot of gardening?, shopping with the missus? Not for me at least. For better or for worse, this is my football club. I wish for better times but i aint going to abandon them just because there is a struggle. Weve heard the Managers passion, i believe in the boards good intentions and i think that they probably realise they got it somewhat wrong. Considering the financial position now as to what it was and the commitment of the board which has been regularly stated by Tom Glick, until i have reason to think otherwise, i will stand by the club and hopefully we will move forward positively. |
| News Comment | Clough Comments On Resignation Rumour While Club Reports Nothing! at 13:04:40
One of the most frequent comments made from the supporters around me most recently have been, why is Nigel Clough the only one who seems to think that a 'One up front' is a formation that works. It is so frustrating particularly in this horrible losing run to have a lone striker running about like a lost rabbit and then to see in the 2nd half against Leicester just how much difference the formation change not only gave the players, but the Pride Park atmosphere started buzzing again too. Sadly we were 2 goals behind by that time and it was more than an uphill struggle. Surprisingly though, my depressed feelings were lifted by hearing Nigel on the post match radio interview, i understood a little more on their objective. I could then accept his realising the mistakes in their pre match planning and, I was even more lifted to hear about the passion for our club being mentioned of himself and his whole team behind him. Not that I doubted it, I just needed to hear it. I looked into those words quite deeply and my fading opinions of Management support actually were reinstated with acceptance again. Everyone at the club from the board to the Management has worked on financial streamlining. For the supporter it has not resulted in what we pay to see however, after all of the effort to get the clubs debts lowered, after all of Nigel’s work to clear out some of the fodder and replace with maybe a less experienced or less talented choice, after all of this, I would prefer some stability at that level in the club rather than start sacking and replacing. As Nigel said yesterday, surviving this season means we should learn from this experience next season, if we don’t then possibly that’s the time for a change. In my opinion, bringing in a new board now, even if that was an option, would just throw us back into debt and turmoil. Bringing in a new Manager, who’s hands would be just as financially tightly tied by the way, would offer nothing more to the party and, at this stage in the season considering how long it would take to settle in, it could be disastrous. I just hope that the crowd get behind the team and play their part, Leicester fans just took the mickey about our silence..we support Derby dont we? |
| News Comment | Savage Speechless - Club And Clough Quiet! at 14:03:02
Well i think that most, if not all of your points are what most of us Derby Supporters would agree with. I too would like to see them both, Cloughie and Cywka, side by side in a 'jovial Press conference', that would be a great idea. With such in mind, I wish the club and its staff at senior levels realised that they could offer various clever moves to help lift us fans in these difficult times by communicating more with what they do off the field and between matches as well as what they try to do on matchdays and currently fail with. I personally dont feel like i am a part of the club as a supporter like i once did, its not necessarily correct that i should feel that way, but i remember a time when i used to think of it as MY club rather than A club that i supported. |
| News Comment | Nigel Clough - "Not Very Bright"? at 21:59:53
Sadly it is not the first time Nigel has singled out players by name for his radio bashing. So although this was not a new angle of attack from him, i too was surprised by the severity of his comments which can only have a negative response. It must have been an awful coach journey back from the south for Tomasz after such direct criticism. I would feel that Tomasz would have liked to hold his hands up and say. sorry boss, my fault, and just get his head down and learn from it. Nigel Cloughs points are quite valid in a footballing sense but they are definitely not for the media. It would be nice to know what his great dad would have said had he heard his lad respond in such a public way or, how he might have dealt with the same issues. Well its done now, i hope Nigel hasn’t lost the dressing room, weve got enough problems without that and i do want him to succeed at the job, but this has tarnished my opinion somewhat. What a blummin season! |
| News Comment | Clough Says No Kuqi As Rams Chase Alaya, Waghorn & Sammon! at 12:27:06
When Shefki Kuqi played against us for Crystal Palace a couple of seasons back, he drew my attention to what a big strong chap and almost a bully that he was around the box..he drew a couple of defenders to him on their attacks and often just muscled his way forward to great effect. I couldnt understand why in the following weeks Neil Warnock, their manager at the time, said he was happy to release him. So then we saw him go to Swansea and score 7 goals in 16 starts only to be given to Derby on loan...so what is that all about. He goes back to Swansea after becoming a hero at Derby (Not unlike the great Igor) and he doesnt even get on to their bench in the next several games until they release him on a free. What is it about this solid working and scoring football player that nobody wants him after a short while with a club? The bit i read aboiut him not wanting to train too much doesnt add up, if he gives it on the pitch, that surely doesnt matter, were not all of the same physical needs and, we musnt forget Paul McGrath who in his latter years couldnt train due to the pain but still gave his worth on a matchday. This Shefki thing is really odd. |
