Jake Buxton has inked a new three-year deal with Derby County: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28094344 With youngsters Hendrick and Forsyth now on new improved contracts and the experienced Naylor & Whitbread retained in the ranks on new deals, the squad stability is being reinforced. Fans are looking to some 'marquee' additions though, to replace Wisdom and Bamford - and there remains that all-important question: can Derby prise George Thorne away from WBA? Discuss! |

| Forum Thread | The Quad 'Pride & Passion' Exhibition launch with Kev Moore & Shaun Barker at 14:11 5 Jun 2014
Today sees the launch of The Quad's summer season of football - it's free and commences at 6.30 pm: http://www.derbyquad.co.uk/exhibition/season-football-launch The DCFC Collection (the Rams' heritage trust) is exhibiting many rare images and the gallery walls are adorned with classic photos from Derby's great history. Spain-based rock muso and Derby lad Kev Moore will be playing a set of Rams songs and club skipper Shaun Barker is putting on a DJ set during the evening! There will be other DCFC heritage displays and exclusive Kev Moore and Rams-related merch on offer. The exhibition and a string of football talks runs through until early September - sure to be of interest to Rams fans of all ages. Seems like a great antidote to the 'Wembley blues' - and a good footy diversion whilst we wait England's next glorious capitulation in the World Cup! |

It was stated at the iPro forum last week that Shaun is hopeful of participating in the pre-season friendly programme. I personally cannot see him as a pivotal figure in the Rams' defensive line-up any more - the injuries were perhaps just too severe for a complete return to his past capabilities. I hope he does achieve fitness and can do a job for a (lower league) team and have a happy conclusion to his playing career, though. Opinions might differ - but that is my realistic view of the situation. Future Burton Albion promotion captain? |
| Forum Thread | George is a Thorne in West Brom's side! at 11:03 3 Jun 2014
Though it's in the Mirror, there's an outspoken item quoting midfielder George Thorne and the ultimatum that he has thrown at his parent club West Bromwich Albion: http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/george-thorne-delivers-west-brom-363 George declares that he's unwilling to be a bench-warmer and has been under-used and under-rated at WBA - and would see a move to Derby as a good option. I hope it happens; he would be the fulcrum of the Rams' team next season and would of course be an automatic pick for Steve Mac. Other clubs - including those in the Prem - will eye George but he insists he won't be happy moving just to be a squad player somewhere else. Your time has come, George....sign on the dotted line for DCFC! |

Steve Mac and DCFC directors are in Chicago now, discussing 2014-15 plans with the owner/investment group. Having attended the DCFC iPro forum last week with Messrs. Rush & Vicars, it is clear that they intend to either secure such as Wisdom, Bamford and Thorne again or bring in players in their position of equivalent quality. I didn't hear the directors say that they would 'be happy with the play-offs' at all. The club feels that it is set up to provide a good placement for Prem starlets and that top clubs see Derby as an attractive option for their developing players. We will also see 2 or 3 permanent additions to improve the squad - and Rush & Vicars declared that it is Derby's intention to go one better and claim an automatic promotion place next season. We will only know the 'vision and intent' of the club when it is time to restructure and go up a gear when we finally do get promoted - it's just too nebulous at the moment to see further ahead than a damn good ruthless and successful Championship campaign next season, that equals or betters the performance of 2013-14. |

On related matters, Zak Whitbread has been released by Leicester City. Personally, I don't think he'd be up to Prem standards should we go up, or be good enough to dislodge Keogh or Bucko at Championship level, given their consistency. Difficult to judge due to his lack of match-fitness - but I'd not feel 100% happy if Zak were pressed into play-off action. |
