It's a lot to do with character. Take Dunne, released by Man Utd, went to Burnley and played a couple of games, but leaves for us as he actually wants to play the game.
Ashby, refused a new contract with West Ham, where he was highly rated, and signs for Newcastle. For the money?

I get players make mistakes, but he isn't ours, let him make those mistakes in the Newcastle development team.
We have shot ourselves in the foot regarding recruitment in the right back spot.
I can't believe there is not a right back in the lower leagues who is young, affordable and we can't develop.

We are discussing Brentford this morning ar work. We really don't get what the club is doing. You can't win the PL, so then what? 12th finish again. Its just weird.

Even we didn't lose to Plymouth at home!🤣

A mist opportunity as Foxes hit QPR for six – Report
at 22:29 12 Jan 2025

Great report, and balanced for both sides. Glad you mentioned Saito, been saying to my son for weeks that he doesn't contribute. Not really sure why he gets a free ride, maybe because he runs and tackles. A low bar.

Film 2025

I've just finished Cocaine Bear. Completely stupid and pointless film, perfect for a Sunday evening, and it has the lovely Keri Russell, so can't complain too much.

Watched Longlegs last night. What a disappointment.

We did control it, as I said for 20 minutes, that was it. We won't win many games doing that, hence the need for someone in that midfield area.

It was embarrassing yesterday, but for me, it was the manner of it, not being able to actually play football for a full 90 minutes

For the record, I really don't like having loan players, but it just shows how weak our squad really is.

You picked up on what my post was about. Thank you.

If a team can't keep the ball then it can't compete against the better teams. There was not a chance of winning that game yesterday, regardless of the team put out, if you spend 60 to 70% of the time trying to get the ball back.
Anyone ever thought that the reason we have had so many injuries is that the players are overworked trying to keep getting the ball back?

I am surprised that as a fan base on here (I'm assuming the majority is in its 40s upwards) that we haven't got more annoyed about this. We were all brought up on Rangers teams knocking the ball about. We can't do that now.

Though we lost, I was more embarrassed by how we can't, apart from a 20-minute spell, manage to keep the ball and control a game. We can't do it against Championship teams, so forget it against a PL team.

If that game yesterday showed anything, it is that we are desperately short of quality in that central midfield area. I ike my players to have more than just being able to run around and tackle. Hopefully, that can be rectified in the summer.

Yet again, we lose a game, and some have gone completely overboard in their reaction.
We have lost to a pretty crap PL team, but we are a pretty crap mid table Championship team which is not very good at retaining the ball.

I had no issue with that starting lineup. We all knew Walsh would start and that Morgan, Dunne and Smyth all desperately needed a break.
Should Ashby have been hooked at HT? Probably, but he wasn't.

What is the difference in the teams? For me, keeping the ball. We've proven games in the Championship can be won with 35% possession, but against PL, there is no chance. We have the ball, they can't score, it's not rocket science, but we desperately need a central midfielder who can control a game.

Reaction in the next game, please Rangers!

Definitely a bit of that. I get 'Tyler Roberts' and 'Ethan Laird' vibes from him in. PL academy history, comes across as arrogant rather than confident.

For the record, West Ham wanted to keep him, he ran his contract down and signed for Newcastle. No doubt for the money.

He makes those sort of mistakes regularly, but is not punished, today against PL opposition he was.

Because he is the best thing at the club currently. That's why he gets his name sung by the fans at every game, home or away.

But as you never go, you wouldn't know.

No, they wouldn't. Teams in the PL are there because they are more ruthless.
We make lots of mistakes in games that are not punished. We get away with an awful lot in fact, but these are not shown in the Sky highlights so you probably never see them.

Today, yes was disappointing, but not very surprising considering where we are as a club.

It's interesting that people on here are slamming MC for changing the defence/goalie, but the person responsible for three of those goals wasn't a change. Mr Ashby.

He is weak in the Championship, but gets away with it, and in this game he was punished. Dunne will replace him next week.
