The content is what matters, you said they'd done nothing about the illegal immigration issue even the furthest right media outlet has pointed out they've done more than the Tories. Four months they've had, how can they have ignored manifesto pledges (intended over a 5 year period In four months? How can they make a lasting impact on the economy in four months? They'll be alienating a lot more of the population to put things right. We'd better face up to it. We could also be facing a huge economic and defence problem if Trump implements his proposals. No government in the UK could do anything about that. As Pawel says, a major problem is the press there Farmers IHT is basically a sound policy, I'm also pretty confident that the Mail would call for benefits to be means tested. But because it's Labour they'll get hammered for it It's going to be a bumpy ride. |

Only if the land is of sufficient value, and the vast majority isn't. It's why Dyson and Clarkson bought in the Cotswolds and not Carmarthenshire. I think an acre in north Carmarthenshire could be bought for about £5k. The only way money can be made from the land is through agricultural use unless it just sits there. It couldn't be built on or developed. There's massive restrictions on its use. I think Clarkson made a programme on his difficulties getting planning. It's why Clarkson and Dyson are still using the land as farms but not farming themselves (when the cameras stop rolling). |

That's why "man of the people" Jeremy Clarkson is annoyed. His nice little tax avoidance scheme has gone udders up. |

Very little I'd have thought - directly at least. It depends on what happens with the cash that would have been invested in farmland to avoid tax. To waste on correcting the mess the Tories made. I agree it is a waste. |

I may register my parents house as an agricultural property in that case. My Dad's tomatoes do very well. |

I don't really drink much alcohol anymore, but after a few beers on a Saturday I really fancy one on a Sunday. |

I eat food and I'm not fat. Therefore fat people don't exist. |

Labour messed up the launch and targeting of the WFA where the bar was set too low no doubt, I don't have a huge problem with the agricultural IHT. A farm sold as a farm isn't particularly profitable and obviously not particularly valuable. A farm sold to someone trying to avoid IHT is 40% more valuable. It stinks as does the Mail, Telegraph, UKIP, Turning Point etc jumping on the bandwagon. The press are just trying to stoke division, it's pathetic. But I'm more concerned how many people buy in to it. I think this policy could be more nuanced, perhaps exempt from IHT if staying in the family, 20% if restricted to agricultural use and 40% if not. The principle behind it is fine in my mind. |

The numbers are hugely variable, the extreme cases at both ends of the spectrum are daft. This entire thing has been hijacked for only one reason and that's because Labour thrashed the Tories. It's going to be a rough few years. We need to generate cash and we need to face up to that. |

The value of the land depends on the profit that can be made from it, from whatever use is possible on that land. A 100 acre sheep farm in rural Ceredigion is worth very little, a 100 acre arrable farm in Sussex could be worth millions. I doubt Clarkson would have bought his acres on the banks of Llyn Brianne for a very good reason. The vast majority of farmers will pay nothing. I genuinely don't think this will directly raise much tax revenue, it's all about closing a loop hole. I do feel sorry for the farmers who will genuinely lose out, it's a cash poor business. But there won't be many of them. |

I'd be a little cheesed off if my little tax avoidance scheme had gone. In reality it won't impact most of them, and those it will won't have to pay much. The ones who are most impacted are those who want to sell their inheritance to investors who'll pay over the odds for farm land. And that's tough luck. |

I havent' got a problem with the farmers IHT issue. It's not a bad policy. It's just being used by the usual suspects as anothr stick to beat Stamer with. Last year, 70% of farmland was bought by non farmers, mostly as an investment to avoid inheritance tax. People like James Dyson and Sheikh Al Makthoum own swathes of it. Jeremy Clarkson has to be the biggest hypocritical knob in the Uk at the moment. |

Not when they're dead. |

It's not dealing with the problem. It's giving them another option. An option that they almost certianly can't use. It's a bit more complicated than them having no self discipline. I've got no self discipline when my wife opens a pack of hobnobs. |

So hide the problem rather than deal with it? |
