Still no apology .......

Dear Editor,

It was a great delight to discoverer through the 86th edition of the Read School newsletter that this fine school has links with a fine football club. Compared to the history of the school however, even though it’s over one hundred years old Rochdale Association Football club is a mere youngling. The club was the first ever to reach a major cup final whilst playing within the fourth tier of English football, until recently it was the ‘only’ club to achieve such a feat when some tin pot team from West Yorkshire managed the same. Sadly, that where the records end.

From the high of discovering my favourite association football club is associated in some small way to The Read school, imagine my disappointment to discover the article went on to make completely unfounded claims about the number of Rochdale supporters that have ventured away from God’s own country, from the red rose county! The article made a veiled attempt to cover the complete lack of research undertaken with the use of ‘perhaps even’ but I expect more from such a highly regarded publication.

I would strongly disagree with your numerical claim and can now back this up with data, real data, not that mythical data or as some would say fake news. Having undertaken a poll over a short period I can now confirm there at least thirty loyal supporters that are or have been suffering in this part or the world performing our missionary work. Given more time who knows how many there could be, there may even be fifty ! Most responses to my poll from those that went on to return to the better side of the Pennines ended their reply with a message along the lines of “then got released for good behaviour never to return.”, for me though, I fear that may not be possible and I do quite like it now that I’ve got used to the ways of the very odd folk in these parts.

Can I suggest in future the appropriate diligence is followed in gathering at least sample data before making such baseless accusations.

I await a full apology.

Regards,
Disappointed YorkshireDALEy

Thank you for this thoughtful and considered response, Ian.

I somehow knew that when I was penning those words this time last week, that they would come back to bite me. I thought myself safe though, when earlier this week, there was total Rochdale radio silence, but in my heart of hearts knew that it couldn't last. A man's passion and pride, once stirred, cannot be held fettered within.

I really want to publish your letter in this week's edition, but feel that perhaps, the subject matter and the nature of the satirical discourse might be too much for some, that they might not appreciate the subtle layers of wit and repartee going on, such that they may wade in unknowingly, and wholeheartedly on the right, or the wrong side of the argument here. And who can say who is right?

Suffice it to say, I will wholeheartedly and unreservedly apologise for my unfounded comments about Rochdale. All, I need to have at my disposal now, are the actual statistics and data in support of Rochdale's army of White Rose fans rooted in this locale that you intimated you would be able to supply. I am sure you will furnish me with those in due course, remembering that, in order to double the fanbase (i.e. to move from one, to two) you cannot include Harrison in your figures.

Your loyal servant,

The Editor.

I recently got a mention in my sons weekly school newsletter related to me being a Dale fan.
The school has recently been connecting with ex pupils and in last weeks edition one James Proctor suggested he’d be the only ex pupil of the school ever to play professional football for Rochdale. I’ll be honest I had to look him up and it seems he had 1 start and a couple of sub appearances in the 95/96 season before he moved on to play in the US.

The story went onto suggest that not only would James be the only pupil to play for Rochdale but that in all likelihood I would be the only Rochdale fan to live in Yorkshire!!

If you’re now located located on the dark side or have lived over these parts for any period please let me know the town and how many Dale fans in your household so I can set the record straight with a strongly worded response to the editor in chief !!

Country season tickets no longer available
at 23:05 12 Aug 2019

Apologies, wasn’t meant to trigger a club bashing, was genuinely trying to understand what was the logical reasoning behind stopping it after a specified time.

To be honest I had no idea it was a limited window for that type of ticket so that is my fault as it clearly does say it on the season ticket page but I had no communication from the club to me. If I had a client that hadn’t renewed and I knew they were approaching a deadline for that option I’d at least send them a quick email or a letter to try and keep their business.

Of the 8 games I made last season it would have been a lot easier to miss some of them but having the ticket pushed me to get to them. That clearly won’t happen this year.

Country season tickets no longer available
at 13:48 12 Aug 2019

Does anyone know why the country season tickets have been stopped?

I tried to renew my country season tickets last Friday in time for Saturdays game only to be told they are no longer available. Apparently if I'd have renewed earlier (I assume the early bird end date) it would have been possible but my only option now is a full season ticket. I only managed 8 of my 10 games last year so that's not viable for me.

I know I missed the date for discounted tickets and was happy to pay the full price but now I'm reduced to individual tickets and sometimes I don't know until the day if I can get over so I won't be paying the on the day price.

Unless there's a good reason just seems a very short sighted decision.

Match thread: Donny (H)
at 19:20 10 Aug 2019

He never actually left the field over the goal line. He was initially directed behind the goal to the left of the goal as he faced it, by the time he’d walked a few more paces the ref again directed him to the goal line but to the right of the posts. Morley then curved his slow walk off until he ended up going off at the touchline. Completely justified booking.

I don’t recall all the Donny subs but the one shortley after was more or less from the middle of the pitch so the shortest route was to the touch line, yes he could probably have walked directly to the Dale bench saving a yard or so but that and Morley’s were in no way comparable.

Thats why I said "the only thing that is certain is one of Plymouth and Scunthorpe cannot catch us" ....because both of the criteria for them to pass us cannot happen.

For us to be safe next sat at 5pm (assuming we've lost) there needs to 2 of Plymouth, Scunny or Wimbledon on 47 points or less.

I'm with Judd on this one, there needs to be no further tweaking of said FG nipples.
Other than Bradford and Walsall can't catch us the only thing that is certain is one of Plymouth and Scunthorpe cannot catch us.

This is gives an idea of what would need to happen to send us down if we lost both....
Bristol - Just need 1 point from 2
Shrews - Just need 1 point from 2
Wycombe - Could lose to Wimbledon and just need a point against Fleetwood
Accrington - Could lose to Plymouth and just need 1 win from 2
Southend - Have to beat Dale, but then get a point at Sunderland
Plymouth - Need 4 points from Accrington and Scunthorpe
Scunthorpe - Need to win both Bradford & Plymouth
Wimbledon - Can lose at Luton then win Wycombe & Bradford
(There are others)

Most of the above seem plausible, Southend getting a point at Sunderland seems the unlikely one but might depend whether they are in with a shout of auto P, the 250-1 seems a good offer.

In defence of Keith Hill

As bad as the last two results have been (I was at Bradford but not Doncaster) is it possible we’ve had a couple of off days that unfortunately coincided with opposition that were having a good day.
Bradford had been on a good run and were very unlucky to get nothing from the Sunderland game by all accounts and from what I saw played very very well against us. A friend is a long time season ticket holder at Donny and tells me it’s the best he’s seen them play for a couple of years.

I’m not saying I’m happy with the results but if we played thinking we’ve just won 2 games we’re probably going to do ok but came up against two teams that were on fire on the day I can understand how results like that can happen.

Quite a few posters seemed relatively happy with the line up before the Bradford game and it wasn’t changed too much for Donny so maybe, just maybe we got unlucky with the timing of playing these two.

For me the issue with Lillis is crosses into the 6 yard box, he doesn't seem to have real confidence he'll deal with it, and I certainly dont.
You can't have headed goals scored two or three yards from the goal line, they have to be the keepers ball all day long.
Fantastic shot stopper though so I guess you have to way up the plus and negs of each keeper and decide who's the best fit....if Keith thinks our defenders also struggle with crosses maybe that sways it for him.

Wembley tickets on sale tomorrow (Thursday)
at 14:45 22 Feb 2018

Is anyone able to confirm if you can get an adult ticket plus a junior ticket using only a junior season ticket?

The following text suggest it can be done.....
"Season ticket holders will be able to purchase a maximum of two tickets on production of Voucher A from their season ticket book, and one of these will be sold at the relevant age band."

but its a bit of a trek for me if they say no (I've tried calling to confirm but i think they're a tad busy) so any help appreciated.

I got the HT score tracking Twitter whilst taxiing towards a runway....quite a few around me nearly sh@t themselves when I yelped as GOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAL! HENDO popped onto my screen.
Managed to get the pilot to relay the final score and nearly sh@t myself when he said Rochdale TWO........ then plenty of oooh's from around 10 rows either side :)

Gutted not to be there.

Spurs hospitalit

I recently purchased hospitality at Doncaster Rovers for a friends retirement. They charge £50 for category C, £75 for B and £100 for A, A games being the local games such as Rotherham, Scunthorpe and I felt a little bizzarley Bolton and even more oddly Oldham. Those prices are all plus vat so for a game against one of the top teams in the country you could argue we’re selling it relitevly cheap.
What’s on offer sounds pretty much the same as we got and I had to suffer watching Donny as well!!

Timeouts - when were they allowed?
at 18:33 22 Oct 2017

Not sure if its been mentioned in any of the other threads but did anyone else think Rovers made great use of the timeout they called after about 20, 25 minutes yesterday?

From their goal kick, their number 30 (I think) goes down before it can be taken and needs 'treatment', nearly every one of their players goes over to the touchline to listen to how the manger wants it changing . Kick is taken, he sprints on and the game changed from us dominating the game to two fairly even sides.

Never worked out what they actually changed been it worked a treat for them.
