Cifuentes gone?

The Morrison performance does show that we have been very unlucky this season. He has surgery just as the JCS goes down injured. Completely disrupts the central defence and in turn midfield with field having to move back.

Well Morrison and Saito were definitely 2 of our best players yesterday.

Yeah how I saw it. Morgan did well against Coventry and Sunderland but since then he’s been poor. Against Boro, he left Varane completely on his own in the middle. And yesterday, he just looked so rushed and no composure. I’m just hoping / praying than this is start of something. To get out of this mess, we need Madsen to be good for us in creativity and goals.

Well I wasn’t looking at the stats, it was just how I saw the game but I have now. Madsen made 4 key passes and Morgan Nil. Madsen had 37 touches and was playing in an advanced role. Madsen had same number as touches as Field and was on the pitch for less time.

What player were you defending. Completely agree with you both by the way. Neither him or Madsen should have been booed either.

Well firstly he got stuck in more. I know that should be a given for a professional player but it was an improvement on what we’ve seen before. Then he also played some decent passes, think he only lost it once and kept the play moving. Morgan just runs around like a bit of a headless chicken for me and we lost our shape.

Lloyd was an improvement for sure but then my old mum would have been too for Celar. But Madsen was far better than Morgan.

Shooting practice

I do think Smyth should be told, no shots from outside the box, just lay it off to someone else. We did a clever corner routine that went to Smyth on edge of box who took a touch (why?) and it was then blocked. We conceded against Coventry with same situation. Smyth is not going to get you a goal from shooting from that far out, there has to be other options.

Is this really the low point after 60 years of supporting QPR? It’s taken us 16 games to be 5 points off safety and we’ll be 10 behind after 2 more? I think that’s too pessimistic and unlikely. We are in a terrible position but there are some small green shoots. 1) we’re getting key injured players back and 2) the new players are starting to look ok. Madsen was decent yesterday, Ashby his best game, Varane has been solid since his return from suspension, Saito has looked very good for quite a few games in a row now, Morrison looked at home alongside Cook 3) we created quite a few chances yesterday. Obviously the lack of a centre forward is still a major issue but I do think we could be finally moving in the right direction.

Shouldn’t we have had a pen a few minutes after our penalty? Saito was just shoved to the ground in the box

Was definitely Field. He took one for the team as they broke away.

In the ground I didn’t see it but in replay it was blatant. Also reaction of player who scored says it all. “Ah thought I’d got away with it”.

Just saw clip of their disallowed goal. He did use arm to control it, so handball but for some reason ref didn’t blow until ball hit net. Great skill from their no 10 though.

My hacked-off take
at 23:56 23 Nov 2024

I thought we were much the better side and should have won. Our biggest issues are clearly the lack of a striker and our lack of confidence. What we were doing with that penalty, god only knows. But there are positives to take from that game. Most of the new guys looked ok to decent….except of course Celar. We hit woodwork, 3 times I think? Morrison looked good at centre back, Ashby massively improved on anything I’ve seen from him before, Saito was good. I think Field and Varane was solid.

I thought this was one of our best performances. Yes Celar was bad and someone really needs to explain why he took the penalty. On the field decision or Marti beforehand?

But let’s look at positives. Morrison fitted in very well alongside Cook….showing terrible timing of his injury at same time as JCS.
Ashby - I thought he was excellent today. Based on that, I’d put him starting right back.
Madsen - he was getting involved and playing some decent passes.
Varane - solid again I thought.
Saito - Man of the match. Love the guy and his positivity.
Field and Cook - both solid games

Obviously needed the win but we also needed a performance and we showed that today.

Marti would only say if someone was available for the game the next day. On everyone else, there was either no update or “they’re making good progress”. The “making good progress” would wind me up. I should bloody hope so, I’d rather he said “unfortunately Frey isn’t making good progress, because Koki thought it would be a laugh to pull Frey’s chair away when he was about to sit down for lunch. Unfortunately that’s set back Frey a few weeks on getting fit and a few more months for fear of him killing Koki”

Yeah I was actually pleasantly surprised by the update. Morrison can partner Cook, and Paal we now have an actual left back. This means Dunne at right back and almost our first choice back 4. And as you say Field can then move to partner Varane. And Saito move further forward. Don’t want to think about the other positions though.

Or is it just that JCS and Colback are injury prone players. And we got lucky last year. We shouldn’t be so reliant on 2 players like that. But they are difficult to replace.
