Dibling goal involvements
at 14:32 27 Nov 2024

So are you saying that it doesn't matter if someone's been involved in a goal or not?

Or do you know a better phrase than "goal involvements" to describe goal involvements?

Personally I think it matters and I can't think of a better phrase.

Dibling goal involvements
at 13:22 27 Nov 2024

Sometimes when a youngster comes in, you can tell they're a prospect but there's no consistent end product there yet. Dibling is one of the few who have immediately delivered over a number of games at the top level.

Of the league games that we've scored in, he's been directly involved in these goals:

Brentford - directly involved in the move
Ipswich - scorer
B'mouth - put in the free kick that caused chaos and led to the goal after another cross
Arsenal - no involvement
Leicester - no involvement
Everton - no involvement
Liverpool - won the penalty for one and directly involved in the other goal

So, out of our 9 goals he's directly contributed to 5 of them and that's without including the penalty he won against Man U that Archer missed. This is despite the fact that he's only been on the pitch for 60% of our playing time.

So, he's not just promising, he's consistently delivering at the top level which is very rare for a teenager. Hopefully he can take the physical and mental stresses better than most 18 year olds would. Fernandes isn't far behind, he's delivering too. Thank God we've had these 2 real finds this season otherwise there would be nothing positive about Saints at all. I'm sure RM hates the fact they risk losing the ball by moving it quickly and taking people on, but I'm praying they ignore him when he tells them not to do it.

Southampton V Liverpool The Verdict
at 13:30 25 Nov 2024

On Suga - maybe you're right but I think he was unlucky yesterday. Looking at the TV highlights it was a difficult bounce to deal with but I don't think it was even a penalty. It bounced off his chest on to his arm and I disagree with Nick - his arm was in a natural position. If it had been one arm raised that would have been unnatural, but both arms raised to chest height was completely natural for his movement. That used not to be a penalty and I don't think the rule has changed so VAR should have ruled it out.

The only reason we scored the counter attacking goal was because AM dropped the ball. If he hadn't we wouldn't have moved it up the pitch so quickly.

The reason we play in different halves is just because City are better at it than we are. If we were good enough at tippy tappy to get over the half way line then we would.

RM really does try to copy City. It's everything from the Pep quote on his office wall, to the inverted full backs, to the false 9s. What he's TRYING to do is almost exactly the same - except that RM's version is a dumbed down version, almost a cliched version of what Pep does. As you say without the likes of Rodri or De Bruyne or Haaland it's never going to work.

Yes, the "individual errors" argument makes sense when it's about McCarthy letting Salah put the ball into an empty net, but generally it's garbage. As you say, most of the errors come about because we're trying to do things we shouldn't and that's RM's fault.

Why does RM persist like this? I'm still unsure whether it's because he is totally stupid or totally arrogant. I think it's probably both.

Even with AM's errors, we have to ask the question of who was involved in giving him another contract, despite all the evidence we've seen. I don't think any of the fans were surprised to see him fvcking up again, but RM and Ankersen seem to want to pay him a lot of money to play for us.

Where do we think Dibling will be plying his trade next (2025 / 2026) season??
at 11:19 25 Nov 2024

It could be any of the big clubs, I think they'd all be interested. I wouldn't even be surprised to see him signed by Real Madrid or Barcelona, although he'd probably go out on loan if he did. I doubt we'll see him turning out on a rainy Tuesday in Blackburn.

SFC would be better off if we'd lost 10 nil
at 11:09 25 Nov 2024

Absolutely right. The thing that really annoys me is that RM isn't even coaching the tippy tappy game well. We shouldn't be playing tippy tappy but if we're going to then at least coach it properly.

In this case, as you rightly say, Fernandes was not in space and was facing our goal. The ONLY options he had was to pass it back towards our goal. To have done anything else would be suicidal. From there, all that Downes or AM would be able to do is clear it, which Downes tried to do and failed. So why didn't AM just clear it in the first place? Why bother with the totally unnecessary bit of tippy tappy inbetween?

For a well coached, highly skilled team, tippy tappy can work. But ours don't have the skill and don't even seem to be coached in how to do it properly.

He did everything that could be asked of him in those circumstances. He played well.

To see him score goals you need to give him chances, just like any centre forward. RM, like Selles, only believes in crosses if our players in the box are all below 5'6", so we will probably never see him used properly. He may not have the all round game to be a top level PL player, but he has shown that he has enough game to do a job for us if he was given the chance. With the limited options we have, he deserves to be played and used properly.

He will leave here a frustrated man and go and score lots of goals for another club. He could probably score in any league in the world, including the PL, if he was given the right service.

I see this was Sky's take on our defensive record.............

.........but that was before we conceded 2 more goals in the 2nd half!

At least then it would have forced the board to question what they're doing. As it is, we have no more points and it just prolongs the agony of having RM as manager.

Today showed again that 1 rapid counter attack will create a better chance than 90 mins of turgid possession. Expect that lesson to be ignored by RM, just like he ignores the countless lessons that it's too risky for us to play out from the back against a PL side.

The glimpses of what we could do under a decent manager (and with a centre forward in the team) are actually torture. It just shows the opportunity that's being wasted by RM. It would be better to just play pure RM style and suffer a few heavy defeats, but then quickly get shot of him.

Maybe he has the same gene as Prince Andrew. That would also explain why he is a useless knobhead.

Yes, sorry to hear you've had it really rough. Good luck with your recovery.

But in all honesty to help you with your recovery you should carry on watching Saints in the PL because the pain you will experience doing that will make what you've just been through seem like a holiday.

Well

- It will not be harder to find a much better manager. Nathan Jones is a much better manager.

- There is no good reason why it would cost us £10m to sack him. Where did this £10m figure come from anyway? It's nothing official just whispers. The whispers are put out to give them an excuse for not sacking him.

- The sooner we get rid of this clown, the sooner we are back on the right track.

No chance. We're stuck with this deluded manager and this deluded board.

There is nothing in their track record to suggest that they will suddenly make a good decision.

In other recent games we've at least had the hope that RM would be sacked if we lost. We haven't even got that hope this time.

If anyone thinks we'll win you can get odds of 10-1. It's football so anything can happen in 1 game, but I'd want more like 25-1 to bet on a Saints win.

Great Southampton V Liverpool Games Of The Past
at 13:45 22 Nov 2024

Not sure it was a classic match but there were 2 classic line ups in 1984(?) for a 1-1 draw at Anfield and I think this was the season after we finished 2nd to them in the league. I always like away games where we score late to get a result - it creates a special celebration knowing it's a kick in the nuts for the home fans. In this one I remember Joe Jordan scored the late goal.

Thought I'd write this down as it seems really weird now to think that we used to be involved in top of the table clashes like this. Nowadays we're reduced to just hoping we don't get walloped 9-0.

I don't expect to see ABK. I think the most likely is that "back 5" shape involving Suga, THB, Stephens, KWP and Manning (if they are all fit). It's the same shape we had at Arsenal and overall I expect RM to try and play the same way as in that game. Nathan Wood will probably be on the bench.

Blackmore: "I also remind myself sometimes that what Rasmus did alongside Matthew Benham to develop Brentford between 2015-2020 shows he understands plenty about football."

I've spoken about Ankersen's propaganda before. This kind of comment shows how it works. Ankersen's PR puts out the lie that he was involved with the success at Brentford and useful idiots like Blackmore repeat it across the media until it becomes "true". This garbage is in a piece titled "Expert View". What a fckn joke.

Try thinking for a change Adam. If Ankersen was involved in the key football decisions at Brentford then why did he leave and then make the completely opposite decisions at Saints?
