Yep.

If you can’t enjoy that 90 mins then you must get your kicks is a very odd way.

Merry Christmas!
at 08:00 25 Dec 2024

Merry Christmas one and all!

Whether we agree, disagree (or both!) throughout the year, if in 2025 we meet I’d gladly have a pint and shoot the breeze with any one of you.

Thanks for making this place such an enjoyable refuge.

Hope you and yours have a peaceful and lovely day.

But why would that lead to a snap election?

I can’t see them doing that.

It’s in their hands.

I don’t know how that would happen.

The general election was in July (probably because Sunak knew there was no way his party would survive an October budget) and the NIC cut was practically sabotage.

We have the summer recess then a budget on 30th of October.

Are things going well? No?. Is this a situation purely down to the new government? Of course not.

Surely that story can’t be true?

It’s saying that if I give a quid to charity, 45p goes straight to HMRC? That can’t be right…

Second BREXIT Referendum
at 11:01 22 Dec 2024

IMO we’re a long way from a second referendum.

It needs 20 or 30 years to see where we are.

I do think we should be able to reach out and make positive links with the EU, especially with Trump in the White House. It makes no sense to be isolationist.

The quicker we can come to terms with leaving having pretty much no impact on immigration and we need to crack on the better.

This one looks very confusing atm.

There’s certainly a common theme of Islamic attacks being the most prevalent. Years ago I’d have said that the Catholic Church was the worst of the organised religions. That’s shifted quite dramatically.

I’m not dismissing the concerns but if that’s the story from 10 years ago I don’t think it’s very reliable.

I may be thinking of the wrong one, mind.

Exactly right.

It’s so depressingly obvious how this will unfold over the next few days with one side licking their lips as they blame each other and stir up more hate.

To some extent it doesn’t mater if this animal turns out to be anti-Islam, far right or far left, it’s extremism in all its forms that is the problem in these awful attacks.

I’m 46 so my state pension age is 67.

I benefited from free school travel, free university (I was the last year of grants), low cost student loans and a 100% mortgage to buy a flat that was 3 times my wage.

Many of these things are not available for young people now yet we keep asking them to pay. For longer.

What has surprised me is the confusion for many on how the state pension works. It’s not a personal savings pot and in some ways it does equate to what you put in.

I thought this was common knowledge but I was wrong.

None of this means I think the lesion is a benefit or high enough.

Governments al ways over estimate savings but I think there will still be a pretty substantial saving.

As for the farmers, I think it’s more about closing the loophole than raising cash straight away which is a good step IMO.

Look how quiet Clarkson has gone since his own words were put to him?

I’d say in the main that’s due to the breakdown in community.

I seem to have upset a few on here by my comments on WFA and WASPI.

For clarification all I’ve really said is that although I think the cut off for WFA is too low, it shouldn’t be a universal benefit (I feel the same about child benefit).

As for WASPI I think that there are better things to spend £10 billion on when services are under such strain.

I also always push back on the young people bashing that pops up on here.
