Presumably that was the reason both us and Spurs wore change kits in the '82 final?

Ownership of QPR

As I understand it the FFP fine relates back to Redknapp giving us a wage bill of £75m and wages to turnover of 195% enabling us just to finish fourth in the play-off final season and not the subsequent splurge on wasters like Caulker & Sandro the following season.

Probably a very strange decision at the time but in time it proved a masterstroke as it later enabled them, after knocking down the other stands/terracing, to be able to shift the pitch 30m or so to the left and completely properly rebuild the rest of the ground.

If the pitch had stayed where it was they wouldn't have been able to do much to that old stand facing the John Ireland stand being so tight to that main road behind it.

That has been debunked many times. At best he may have overdubbed a few parts on stuff they recorded in Hamburg that were later released in the US after they hit the big time i.e. with Pete Best and pre-Ringo.

Ringo played on all their sessions from 62-70. Mark Lewisohn's excellent 'The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions' details that.

Now it seems I've learnt something. Turns out it wasn't Jasper Carrott who originated the joke although he may later have stolen it. Apparently it was from an episode of Radio 4's 'Radio Active' series in 1981.

One of the two games where Mike Sheron (the other Sunderland away a couple of months later) actually looked like the player we thought we'd signed when we paid £2.75m for him.

An urban myth. It was actually said by Jasper Carrott in the early 80s on his Carrott's Lib TV show.

RIP Q. An incredible musical legacy.

I shall listen to my copies of 'Sinatra At The Sands' & 'The Dude' in tribute tonight.
