Andy-aid to India is declining in coming years with more concentration on less developed countries such as Sub-Saharan Africa. The nature of aid is also changing-more like investment in technology and development of talent than simple support. But yes, the money spent of these space programmes should be spent on people first.

Indefensible on 19:01 - Nov 6 with 1024 views | ItchySphincter | The Tories have some strange idea that all the aid we give them now will be returned twofold when they become a super power. I have heard that trotted out by an MP.

Indefensible on 09:29 - Nov 7 with 960 views | DDCH | Indefensible really. I have a few Indian friend I have worked with when they have been sent over to the UK. One in particular really embraced the experience of being away, and after 6 months in Swansea we sent the young fresh faced Hindu man home with a love of sirloin steak and Stella Artois. He once told me that in India it is very hard to break from social class, and he was lucky as his parents were both from a good caste and that gave him opportunity. This brings an attitude to the country not to help the 'lower' person. The people doing well look upwards and use their resources that way, hence their advances whilst a large chunk of their population live in squalor. I would imagine without western aid and charities the situation would be even worse, but it is a bitter pill to swallow when your helping feed your neighbours kids and he rocks up with a new Jag.

My point is that if they can spend that much on this mission, they don't really need the same amount in aid from us, just spend it correctly. We have all sorts of issues here, we are facing cuts left right and centre and we splash the cash to corrupt governments the world over. Charity begins at home, let's look after our own first.

Indefensible on 11:21 - Nov 7 with 939 views | perchrockjack | By all means help poorer countries especially ones that our Empire raped for their resources or for their stradegic position but India is able to feed its own and to house its own if it ended the Caste system and invested the money into all of its people

I think you'll find that most so called "Indian restaurants" are actually owned and run by Pakistanis or Bangladeshis.

Is the right answer. Astonishing that people actually believe that we just give countless millions to these countries without expecting or getting anything in return.
