Arsenal renew pressure to sign Ash 17:00 - Aug 3 with 14784 viewsLord_Bony

Arsenal are stepping up their efforts for Swansea City defender Ashley Williams.

The Daily Mail says Arsenal have intensified attempts to sign Williams to ease their defensive injury crisis.

Manager Arsene Wenger had the Wales central defender watched by a senior scout during Swansea’s Europa League clash against Malmo on Thursday.

They remain in talks with Swansea over their skipper, but have so far refused to meet their £10m valuation."

If Caulker is worthy of a £9m fee then Ash has to be worth £15m given his performances in the Prem and the fact he hardly misses a game. The sooner Sept comes the better.

I don't know if £15 m is right but the fact he almost never misses a game is hugely important to a valuation. He is 29 but if he was to keep fit for 5 years that would mean best part of 200 games.

Which is why Huw is asking £10m...

There are two sides to supply and demand.

Although he is 29, he is central to the team. Could he be replaced for £10m? Doubt it for the same quality and that is why Ars3hole Winger is chasing him. If there was someone out there of better quality for the same money, he'd be going for him.

Never misses a game through injury. Only missed a game through flu last season.

may also be looking for a British player to fill their homegrown quota. In a way that's another reason why we need to keep him.

Could he be replaced for £10m? Yeah if we look hard enough. Chico was only £2m after all.

Nationality is another reason why we can't let him go on the cheap though.

Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

Not sure what the homegrown rules are for playing in Europe, but that may have been one of the reasons why we bought Shelvey. Can't see how we can lose a home grown player without replacing with another.

Offer them Bartley back for 5m. Wenker's so punch drunk and obsessed with the racist chomper he's not likely to notice.

We don't need to sell. Unless he really, really wants to go then we can ask for as much as we want! It's not in our interest at all to sell him.

The fact that he has 3 years left on his contract and generally is indispensable in Swansea means that they'll have to pay way above his market value.

Arsenal is a very cost conscious club. I don't see this happening this year.

He's 29, you plum.

Whats wrong with being 29? He's hardly coming towards the end of his career you PLUM! The lad was out of the game for a few years after WBA ditched him, I guarantee he's looking to play almost as long as Tommy Hutch did, £15M minimum and you can add more to that the closer it gets to September.

10000000000000000000000000000000% accurate. I've said before he owes us nothing given the service and performances he's given us from day 1 of his arrival from Stockport on loan but he'd leave an absolutely massive hole if he were to leave for pastures new. Roll on September.

This

From a business point of view, every player will have a price that the club cannot afford to turn down. If we had a bid of say £25 Million, of course we'd accept - so it's just a case of what the club would consider an offer too good to turn down (not just a good offer).

However, we are in a strong financial position and don't need to sell, and we "could" be on the verge of something really special with this team - more special than the last 11 years even So I'd hope that we put our playing prospects before any financial gain at this stage.

Personally, I'd like to see the transfer window close on 1st August, so we'd get away from this sh1t right up to and into the season

I think few on this thread seem to be considering the thoughts of Ash himself. We could not blame him for wanting his final playing years at a bigger club with a bigger wage and better prospects of Champions League football.

The way he played on Thursday though I would not sell him out of choice for any price ............. though we know all players have their price.

We need him to bring along Jordi Amat who will undoubtedly improve playing alongside Ash and this will only add to Amat's value, so we really need to look at the bigger picture. IMO it would be short-sighted to let him go ................ unless he wants away of course, in which case there's little we can do (except get the best price for him).

I just hope that he has the heart to stick around a bit longer.

The real slackjack .... beware of imposters! They say that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery ......... Enough said!

Warwick is right. For the right price he's gone. What that price is, I'm not sure. If laudrup has a replacement in mind maybe ten million is enough.
Personally, I doubt we'll sell, or that arsenal are really after him. We'll see.

Just my opinion, but WTF do I know anyway?

Without any doubt Wenker is desperate to have him and has been tenacious about it for a long time,His other targets have fallen through so this is a last ditch attempt to complete the Arsenal defence before the season starts.

If he offers to triple his wages and pays the asking price then it is down to Ash. It may prove too tempting for him and he will make the move. There wont be many chances like this one after next season because of his age and he knows it.
However, his heart and soul is in this club so it would be a very difficult decision to make either way.

We are now getting to a very interesting stage in player power.
Prior to this season any player who wanted to move from a club and break his contract, almost inevitably succeeded. Man Utd managed to persuade Ronaldo to stay another year, but that was on the strict understanding that he would leave for Real Madrid at the end of the season.
However we have at the moment two high profile instances of where clubs appear genuinely to want to keep their star players regardless of the amounts offered and the players stated desires to leave. It will be interesting to see if Bale and Suarez have their way or if the club succeeds in keeping them.
The financial rewards for a successful club have increased dramatically this year.World wide coverage of the Premier League to an expanding world market would suggest that these financial rewards will increase even more dramatically in the future.
Could it be therefore that the current values of the most important Premier League players are really understated at the moment.
Only an idiot would underestimate the importance of Ashley Williams to our current and immediate future success. His value to us therefore is, in its own way ,as important as Suarez is to Liverpool and Bale to Spurs. In money terms the figures suggested on this forum have to be therefore vastly understated!

If they meet our asking price he'll be gone quicker than sh!t through a goose.

Warwick's called it right. What happened to fans where they think we would turn down a £10 M offer for Williams. The PL has turned some into complete chumps. The player would be gone like a rat up a drain pipe. If he stays another year his chances of going to a top four club diminish again.

I'm starting to dislike the way Arsenal apparently do business though. They are attempting to squeeze us as a smaller club it seems, but hopefully this is where Ash can help. If he doesn't publicly force the issue, Arsenal can't really drive the price down. I would have thought we would have been informed of Caulker's availability for transfer and maybe would have punted if Arsenal had put a tidy offer in but the closer to the wire it goes, the trickier it is for us to replace well.

Some folk really think that Ash wouldn't want to run to Arsenal faster than Usain Bolt, or that our Board would turn down 10m for a 29 year old central defender? Wow.

Whatever fans may wish to happen or prefer to happen, if you think either of the above, it's time to read Janet and John Get Real.

It is a worrying trend that the big money is flowing up to the top and staying there.

The effect on this is two fold.

Firstly,we will always be victims of our own sucess, managers, players, coaching staff etc who do well for this team will always be targets for the bigger clubs.

But on the bright side we will have a bigger war chest to exploit similar below us and do the same.

The result being we will probably see higher turnovers in future as money and big business will have a huge effect on the structure of the club going forward.

Personally, I m not worried one bit because we have a REALLY solid business model here and we are in very good hands.

I've said for a while that 15m should be the minimum price. I'm glad that those hard-headed types who think 10m would be great business aren't running the club. That is peanuts when you consider the rewards on offer for staying in the Prem. As the commentary team on radio Berkshire covering the Reading match said, Arsenal are sniffing around trying to get Ash on the cheap when a price of 12m would be too low. The age factor is irrelevant - a good run over the next three years with further team development would be worth more than that to us, and I think Ash has a big part to play.
