Ascot on 18:29 - Jun 21 with 1890 views | Lblock | I was there yesterday on a corporate jolly The place has lost what it was but is still a cracking day out, even more so if the weathers good. Many people slag off England and our fine young ladies. Rubbish. Many of the ladies I saw yesterday were absolutely Milan catwalk contenders. They're also a lot more fun at 6pm after a day on the fizz!!!! As for tips I'd recommend steering clear of any cart horse I back --- done my money yesterday and no recovery bets came in today!!! Enjoy builders day on Friday and good luck

Ascot on 20:08 - Jun 21 with 1829 views | Snipper | I went on the Friday last year. It didn't stop raining heavy all day from what I remember. Stuck underneath a big tent all afternoon. Looks like more of the same this year for the Friday.
Ascot on 21:47 - Jun 21 with 1762 views | westberksr | went on Tuesday; great day. Weather, Frankel, day would have been topped off with a winner or two more but a great day out. Sorry for those there in the rain as it does make a massive difference. not as nice a course as it used to be, but we do that sort of day so well they get away with it. 100's of Aussies there; don't they realise Saturday is Black caviar day. Egham, do you have to still wear a toolbelt to get in on friday

Ascot on 22:30 - Jun 21 with 1729 views | Lblock | I do miss the parties in the coach parks -- do they still have those? Been many a year since I've been on a coach which used to be an annual pilgramige. Have to say Bar No.1 was very good yesterday. Popped in there for old times sake as I did have a very, very, VERY good night in there some years back on an Ascot Friday. Fingers crossed you get good weather and that Matalan suit doesnt shrink wrap you in the drizzle.

Ascot on 12:36 - Jun 22 with 1538 views | Tripper | Don't shoot the messenger. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Friday Royal Ascot Preview 2.30 - The action kicks off with the Albany Stakes and a short-priced favourite in Newfangled. Now, most of the principals here have only had one run so picking which might have the most improvement plus the ability to handle the softer conditions can come down to a certain amount of guesswork. One thing is for sure that win or lose, taking 2/1 about a once-raced filly racing in soft ground against 17 other lightly raced types is a long-term recipe for disaster. It's bang up there on my ratings and looks to hold a strong chance but one that looks just as strong if not stronger on form/speed ratings (taken with a pinch of salt based on just one run) is AGENT ALLISON. She clocked a fastest time than all of these on my speed figures last time, the trainer has a decent strike-rate here with his runners, Spencer takes the mount and he too has an excellent overall record at Ascot, throw in the excellent Dutch Art as a sire and we have ourselves a decent anough e/w option at 15/2 I think. Light Up My Life is a big-price for a Hannon juvenile but the one that catches my eye both from breeding and overall profile is the Zarooni runner Kosika who could be a big price at 20/1 especially as now is the time the Godolphin stable start to get into form and Hard Spun is a relatively new sire to keep an eye on getting plenty of winners with a decent strike-rate. The Fahey juvenile Mary's Daughter is another one that could potentially be massively overpriced. Taking a gamble on these though is not really my style and although it's not a race to go nuts in by any stretch I do think the Chapple-Hyam runner is worth a small e/w wager AGENT ALLISON 0.5pt ew @ 15/2 (Bet365/Hills BOG) 3.05 - Disappointing turnout for the King Edward Stakes. We were on THOUGHT WORTHY for the Derby at big odds and he just failed to make the frame running 4th. I don't really see why he should be a far bigger price than both Astrology or Noble Mission but there is no each-way angle into this race and I am not preparared to take short odds about the main threat and my top-rated Astrology. NO BET. 3.45 - The Coronation stakes and another fillies race in soft ground and generally speaking I am not a fan. If Homecoming Queen reproduces that Newmarket run then she will take all the beating and although there is a big question mark over the form of her win that day, this recent rain will certainly not have hurt her chances. Samitar won the 1000 Guineas from Ishvana who boosted that form on Tuesday when winning the Jersey Stakes. I have to say that I am not a big fan of either Guineas form and their overall profiles suggest they may not be the most consistent types at reproducing that form. With such a couple of tough races they could be vulnerable to a less-exposed improver that we may not have seen the best of. Ideally what I am looking for is a filly with only a run or two under her belt, a progressive speed profile or a big speed figure combined with solid trainer/sire stats and something at a price. First up is the Haggas runner Cardigan who is once-raced, having her first run this year and by Barathea who liked a bit of give. However, it's a tough ask first time out in a Group 1 from maiden company. The interesting one for me is the Godolphin runner IRISH HISTORY. I think it's significant that she holds an entry in the Group 1 Falmouth Stakes and by Dubawi out of a Sadler's Wells mare she is bred to relish the conditions of today's race. She won her maiden with ease by 6 lengths last year and clocked one of the fastest times of all of these in that race which is a big pointer to her potential. She had no sort of luck in running on a fast surface in a listed contest on her reappearance and was not given a hard time once beaten. She clearly has to step up on that form here but we are rewarded with a decent price and Dubawi's love a bit of juice. Russelliana is another outsider of interest and we may not have seen the best of her but I am going with a speculative but cautious IRISH HISTORY 0.5pt ew @ 14/1 (generally available BOG) 4.25 - Finally a race worth betting on ;-) Gatwood looks quite strong here it has to be said and will more than likely win. I was very tempted to put up the 7/2 as a bet with Bet365 but I just couldn't bring myself to do it in a 14-runner field. A shame that the non-runners have reduced this to just 3 places but I think the option as ever for me is to pick one out at a price that I think at least is capable of making the frame if not upsetting the favourite. I quite liked the look of Qaraaba at first glance but it's not quite big enough for my liking. He does have the speed profile and has that progressive profile. Another similar type is Danadana who actually has the better overall speed profile of that pair and it's not a negative that he has a sire/jockey factor with Fallon and Dubawi. It's a big outsider I am going for who features prominently on my ratings for both form and speed and by Pivotal will relish conditions and it's the Simcock runner OTTOMAN EMPIRE under James Doyle at 25/1. It's true his form doesn't look spectacular but he was only 1/4 length behind Gatewood at Epsom, clearly hated the course and so can be marked up for that run. He has a 6lb pull here and I can't understand the massive discrepancy in the prices but I am glad there is one. French Navy is another that shows up better than his odds suggest. He won the Group 3 Select Stakes on good to soft and perhaps the step up in trip and faster going caught up with him on his final outings. It is a bit of a chance to take though as the Godolphin runners have tended to need their first run this year. I can't choose between Danadana and Qaraaba for a cover win bet and it would not surprise me to see either win. In such scenarios with doubt in the mind caution and temperament is always the way to go. With that and value in mind the sole bet with here is OTTOMAN EMPIRE 1pt ew @ 25/1 (Bet365 BOG) 5.00 - I can't say I am much of a fan of the Queen's Vase. O'Brien has a good record in this and ATHENS is top-rated on my ratings. Stoute is another who does well in this and Estimate is also interesting. Unfortunately, neither are what I would call good prices. Minimise Risk and MACBETH are interesting at better prices particularly the latter but they may just be playing for one place if the principals produce the goods while Yazdi is another with a chance. This looks far too trappy with little e/w appeal so it's a NO BET. 5.35 - The Buckingham Palace rounds things off and this is much more like it for me. I have deliberately played a bit safe in some of the trappier contests today so I could pick a few in this race on various angles. These are the races that produce the profit at Royal Ascot for me but this is a particularly trappy renewal. On my ratings the top-5 all produced CB speed figures last time and they all have different positives and fewer negatives. Beyond the top-5 there are a three others who are over 10lb+ lower than their previous highest winning marks. It's a puzzle that needs unravelling so let's start with the top-rated Global Village who has seen some support, is a CD winner and has Fallon on board. This has the look of a 'plot' but although I may be kicking myself after the race I just can't be taking 7/1 about a horse in such a big field. I know I advised 8/1 about Fast And Free yesterday but he was less exposed and had a lot more positives in his favour. Usually when I oppose a top-rated runner of mine it comes back to bite me on the ass and it may well do again today but I would rather big double-figure runners that hit the frame and go close than miss a 7/1 winner...over time I just find it pays better. Second-rated is TARIQ TOO and this is much better. Amy Weaver is a young trainer who is in-form and the 55 figure he clocked last time put him bang up there with the principals. He has no problem with the conditions being by Kyllachy out of a Selkirk mare, looks progressive and the price is right. Imperial Djay comes next and is another who has put up two excellent figures on his last 2 outings, last time handling the soft conditions well and again the price is ok but both those wins came at Chester and there could be a bit of a 'course specialist' about him so I will swerve him. Irish contender GOSSAMER SEED has had a very interesting preparation for this. Having won a 7f Group 4 contest by nearly 5 lengths in soft/heavy conditions he was then dropped down to 6f and then 5f last time where he just failed to nail Mirza in a listed contest. This is the proverbial Group horse in a handicap and it's significant I think that he stepped down in trip and now is back up to a possibly more suitable trip. He has class, will handle the conditions and has young JP O'Brien on board as well as being 20/1, what's not to like ? Emilio Largo has a big chance here with Cecil, Queally and Cadeaux Genereaux a possibly match in heaven. He shows up strong on a couple of my approaches but I am going to look to a well-handicapped runner who could bounce back under his optimum conditions. MIA'S BOY has been out of sorts for a while but showed a big improvement speed figure when 3rd last time to Ducal at Lingfield. Andrea Atzeni has been on board for both his last 2 wins and is back on today. He is 10lb lower than his highest winning mark and nearly won the Hunt Cup off 103 a few years ago. His turn of foot may not be quite as potent as it once was but it's likely to be a bonus to be able to quicken off a strong pace here and handle the conditions which by Pivotal there should be no problem with. TARIQ TOO 1pt ew @ 16 (Betvictor BOG 5 places) , GOSSAMER SEED 1pt ew @ 20/1 (Hills BOG 4 places) , MIA'S BOY 0.5pt ew @ 25/1 (Bet365 BOG 5 places) Bets Summary 2.30 AGENT ALLISON 0.5pt ew @ 15/2 (Bet365/Hills BOG) 3.45 IRISH HISTORY 0.5pt ew @ 14/1 (generally available BOG) 4.25 OTTOMAN EMPIRE 1pt ew @ 25/1 (Bet365 BOG) 5.35 TARIQ TOO 1pt ew @ 16/1 (Betvictor BOG 5 places) 5.35 GOSSAMER SEED 1pt ew @ 20/1 (Hills BOG 4 places) 5.35 MIA'S BOY 0.5pt ew @ 25/1 (Bet365 BOG 5 places)

Ascot on 14:31 - Jun 22 with 1449 views | Spaghetti_Hoops | Three years ago we had two syndicate horses running on this day at Royal Ascot, and the year before that came 3rd in the Wolferton Listed Handicap. Happy days. Black Caviar is absolutely awesome but the travelling, soft ground, undulating track, and all the other differences from what she is used to means she is far from a certainty. Odds-on of course but the support from Australia, where they have gone mental about her, will make her a silly price and finding one to oppose her each-way could be best. Tip - he who makes predictions usually lives to regret it. [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]
