never could understand how goalies dived the wrong way, thought all they had to do was dive the way the ball went.
then on holiday i ended up in goal for a penalty competition and this group of lads who were pretty usefull started taking pens...
every one smashed into the bottom corner before i could even think about diving for it, it then dawned on me that you have to dive before it gets kicked to even have a chance and even then i had no fking chance even when i guessed right.

If the penalty taker can hit it in to the top corner of the goal the same side as the foot they are taking it with then that would be the statistically better side as the ball curls away if they hit it the other side. Easier to hit across the goalkeeper from a kicking perspective, I would imagine.

Graham Alexander had a pretty decent technique - drill as hard as fcking possible and if the keeper gets a hand to it they'll be taken off with a broken wrist.
As for keepers, if you watch the players planted foot you can generally see where its going but you'd need lightening reflexes even for a professional keeper to read and react to that. |  | | |
