End of an era 09:47 - Jan 2 with 5830 views | R17ALE | I'm sure there are plenty on here who have had him knock at your door collecting goldbond and the like, but after a magnificent 20 year stint, Superfan Cloughie is calling it a day this week due to his health not being what it was. Over the twenty years, Cloughie has mithered the good burghers of Littleborough into parting with nearly half a million quid for his beloved club. As the person who persuaded him to start doing it back in 1992, it seems only right that I start off by saying well done Cloughie and thank you. The bike is being hung up, though it wouldn't be out of place in our trophy cabinet!

End of an era on 22:48 - Jan 2 by blackpoolcol | I've had the pleasure of two spells working at the club with the gold bond and all I can say about Cloughie is that he is an absolute legend. People talk about Big Reg and Jonah but this is a real legend of the club and he deserves all the accolades that he has had and will get from his fellow supporters. To put it in perspective Cloughie covered from Littleborough Summit thru to the Lake, up towards Wardle then down to almost Hamer for the club and in reality this was around TEN large rounds I can only hope that Cloughie will have an enjoyable long retirement from collecting and will be able to watch the full game including some evening games as he didnt get to many as he was that dedicated to his collecting. I doff my cap to the king of the collectors and a true Legend! Col |
Latest news from Littleborough indicates a return of his season ticket along with an invitation to be a guest of the Directors at our next home match - I now hope the Directors take this opportunity to thank coupnman in the way he deserved in the first place by retiring the seat of Superfan along with him by making him a life member of the club he has loved and worked for over many years. I would also suggest a round of applause is asked for to allow all his fellow supporters to pass on their thanks for all his efforts.

Agreed. Good to see some common sense prevail and the decision reversed. Thoroughly disappointing that it took comments from this board to achieve it.

Do wonder if the people who matter at the club did know what had gone on - I have my doubts. And a question to our directors - As most who know couponman his eyesight is not the best hence him sitting on the halfway line to gain views of both goals - Now if as he is an OAP he could only afford to join me in the cheap seats of Sandy would he be due a 50% reduction in the entrance fee as he could only see half of the game !

I'm more worried about your eye sight if you think there are seats in The Sandy

Indeed. I do believe this thread has stirred the club to consider how to honour one of our greatest. This is where Wooton Bassett meets Rochdale, but it took an internet thread to remind them. But I do believe there are plans afoot. I spoke to Cloughie tonight and he was almost in tears when I read out some of the posts on this thread. He kept saying "get away". And he asked me in particular to pass on thanks to Blackpool Col.

He's guest of the Chairman v Stevenage! It'll be like the cast of Benidorm in the Director's box! By the way, 10/10 for your post at KenCoon earlier! I was in stitches!

I think Chairman v Stevenage might be something of a mismatch given their physical style.
| When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf? |

Have to say NC, you're taking what R17ALE posted completely out of context And perhaps you might have had some consideration for the thread you've chosen to make a cheap point on? [Post edited 1 Jan 1970 1:00]

I've only heard third hand about this farrago but it's certainly dampened some of the optimism that's been spilling forth from Spotland in the early days of the Beech era. One small point I'd make is that our recently-appointed press officer should, in my opinion, be keeping an eye out for these sorts of 'positive PR' opportunities (and I stress I don't know if she's been involved in this episode or not). Posters on here have often berated the club before for lack of decent content on the OS, but I get the impression that has improved recently with more players/staff interviews etc. Perhaps a short sequel to TVOS's programme article (cited on this thread) might create a 'good news story' for Dale and further atone for the initial blunder? Just an idea.
End of an era on 20:22 - Jan 4 with 1113 views | Fondles | My mum has just read this thread and wants to pass on her thanks to coughie for all his hard work, he delivered to our house in smithy bridge each week rain or shine. She says that he gave her a big wet snog on her birthday one year, the dirty dog! She says has no1 contacted Granada tonight to tell of his story and the observer, not a bad shout. On another note, nobody has taken over his round in smithy, or at least this house and cos of this i ain't had my bloody calendar this year as a Christmas present as normal!
End of an era on 21:25 - Jan 4 with 1065 views | gresh1 | I would like to express my thanks to David for his commitent to this club. Through wind and rain David was there. Good luck and good health to you David. All this and the poor man didnt even get a free coat from the shop to raise much needed money for the club . And for the commercial department to strip him from his only true passion is nothing but shamefull. Glad to see this board yet again has saved the club from what could have been very embarrasing . Please Mr Dunphy sort that dept out its shocking.

Firstly just been told about this thread about Cloughie and well done to him on his fantastic support to the club, his round according to Pete Woodhouse has been split into 7 new rounds and i will be doing one of the smithy bridge ones (about 110 people ) so fondles get yer cash out. Well done again David ,will miss his blunt and witty comments on a sunday morning.

As someone posted earlier it shouldn't have needed to be an internet thread that stirred the club into action. Mr Garlick apart there is very little to be impressed or cheer about on the office side of the club and that includes the board. It has been so since RW left and DK and GM stepped down. You only have to look at the missed opportunities over the last 10 years to see it is shoddy at best. P.S. Still waiting to hear from the club when the scarves are back in stock.

As timely a news article as this one on the Liverpool site this week: http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/latest-news/lfc-makes-new-friends-1 Are the club really so out of touch that they are 11 days behind this messageboard with their ability to get a story out? Good piece of prose; but the damage done with the season ticket shenanigans. Too little, too late as always.
