Film 2025 17:13 - Jan 10 with 2967 views | E17hoop | To save polluting the TV thread, I thought I'd start a thread for the films we've seen this year. I saw A Real Pain the other day and it's a really nicely put together piece by Jesse Eisenberg. It unpeels like an onion, with each layer getting closer to the central pint. Good film. Babygirl could have been so much better. Nicole Kidman does well but it all feels a bit 'off'. Rewatched Anatomy of a Fall the other day - brilliant.

Film 2025 on 17:57 - Jan 10 by hubble | Watched 'My Old Ass' with multigenerational audience of fam and friends over Xmas and everyone liked it. Thought it was going to be some Gen Z nonsense, turns out it was a funny, warm, feelgood movie... and all it starts with a mushroom trip. Plus it features the delectable Aubrey Plaza. |
Yep, enjoyed that much more than I was expecting. Just watched 'In The Summers', last night. A beautiful film about a father's relationship with his daughters. Powerful and definitely one for fans of the 'show but don't tell' type of film.

Film 2025 on 11:20 - Jan 12 with 806 views | FDC | Missed the Leicester game because I was watching something equally macabre. Went to the cinema to see Nosferatu. Magnificent. Eggers is some film maker. The cinematography is sublime. And the performance from Depp is superb, really sells it. Don't think I've seen her in anything else but I'll be keeping an eye out for her

Film 2025 on 11:58 - Jan 12 with 766 views | ChrisNW6 | Made the most of dry Jan so after returning from yesterdays match. Sat down with girls last night to watch Wicked. I'd managed to avoid the musical previously and didn't expect much. Really good film and the casting is very good, some great homage to the Wizard of Oz. Pleasantly surprised. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It would've been far better if it didn't try to tick the woke box by including a Romanian immigrant...

I thought she looked a bit rough in the later scenes. 😆 best film I've seen recently was River (Japanese film with a time loop, very imaginative film) I also really liked The Wailing (Korean horror film) if you're a Bruce Springsteen fan, the Road Diary documentary on Disney+ is brilliant. recently watched Cocaine Bear which has just appeared on Netflix. Hmmm. I like daft horror stuff but this was just *too* daft. Like Snakes On A Plan and Sharknado, the title is more entertaining than the actual film.

The Wailing is great. I'll check that Japanese film out, looks right up my alley 👍

Film 2025 on 01:24 - Jan 11 by PunteR | Just watched Drive, again tonight. Such a good film. |
I prefer Drive which is a rollicking fight flick with Marc Dacascos in it. And a young Brittany Murphy who is insane all the way through it.

I've just finished Cocaine Bear. Completely stupid and pointless film, perfect for a Sunday evening, and it has the lovely Keri Russell, so can't complain too much. Watched Longlegs last night. What a disappointment.

Film 2025 on 17:35 - Jan 10 by simmo | Funnily enough I decided to try and keep a record of all the films I watch this year - new and old. I always try and track them but inevitably miss out. Here's my list so far. 1) The Seven Five - documentary about corrupt police in New York which were so audacious it brought about major changes in the NYPD. Interviews all the key people involved including a former drug kingpin that has the most incredible monobrow you've ever seen. 2) The Waterboy - Old school Adam Sandler stupid comedy, which I think you either like or don't, but I introduced it to my 16 year old lad. Kathy Bates is in it which feels strange now. 3) Nosferatu (cinema) - I'm not typically a horror fan but this was really pretty good. True to the source material and looked/sounded amazing. One of those films elevated by seeing it at the cinema for sure, so if you're into this kind of stuff, you should go. 4) Gattaca - Sci-Fi with a great 90's/00's cast. I love this film and rewatched for the first time in ages. It's also where Ethan Hawke met Uma Thurman, so is the reason we have Maya Hawke now popping up all over the place. 5) State of Grace - Early 90's crime film with again, a great cast inc Gary Oldman, Sean Penn, Ed Harris, etc. It's a bit meh tbh, considering it's about undercover police and NY crime which is right in my wheel house... Tonight I'm watching 'Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person' which is a horror comedy someone said was a bit like a more serious What We Do In The Shadows, which I really love. I'm also going to watch A Real Pain this weekend as a friend recommended it and thought I'd enjoy it, although I really don't like Jesse Eisenberg much, I love everything Kieran Culker has done so far. Will let you know my thoughts! Anatomy of a Fall has been on my must see list for months, along with Zone of Interest, I just don't ever seem to be in the mood for serious drama/dialogue... Simmo, I use an app called Letterboxd which lets you record this and even leave scores/reviews if you want. It's really good. Last year I ended up on 105 films. Anyway, this year so far. 1 - Prey. The fifth Predator film. It got a lot of unearned praise in 2022 but I thought it was all a bit lame and safe. The CGI wasn't great either. Felt cheap. On rewatching for the first time though it was okay. 3.5/5 2 - Jaws. Never been a big Jaws fan but I caught it on TV (with adverts and everything) and watched it all. It stands up. The film just looks classy and well shot and it's full of great character actors. It drags a bit but there's never been another shark movie as good. 4/5 3 - I Saw The TV Glow. There's something about the look of this film, and some of the acting performances, that hint at this being a good film. The plot never really gets going though, it just sets up things slowly and jumps around never really getting to the point. It was only after the film ended that I read it was about being trans, which I didn't get from the film at all. Pretentious twaddle really but watchable once. Lots of Buffy nods in there for you 90s kids. 2/5

Film 2025 on 10:24 - Jan 13 with 232 views | robith | Went to see Nosferatu. I'm an Eggers stan but I loved it. Every shot dripped with menacing horny evil, I left the cinema feeling gross. Sound design and cinematography unreal, incredible physical acting by the central female lead
