Senedd Costs on 16:03 - Oct 29 by ReslovenSwan1 | Nothing compared to the House of Lords. In the evolution of Wales the parliament and self determination is vital for many of us. This is the first Welsh parliament ever. It can perform a lot better if the voters were more careful in selecting their candidates. The last leader preferred to hang on to £200k rather than his job as the leader which was a pretty poor optic. It showed a lack of fibre. [Post edited 29 Oct 16:09]

I take it you don't know that the voters do not select candidates, they get given a choice of party, the candidate is selected by the party, even that is about to change thanks to the Senedd. Soon enough you will only be able to vote for the party and then they will decide who gets the seat at their discretion. Who chose the last leader of Welsh Labour? I didn't get a vote. It's like Wales is as undemocratic as the Westminster trough dwellers who Drakeford and Gething were so critical of.

The labour party selected Gething by a vote. They knew the character of this man who was happy to cash in and give up the job of leading the country. He sounds to be a person of very low ambition and drive. The Labour party voted him into the role. I will have to research the new voting system you have highlighted which is proportional representation and a fairer system than at Westminster. Welsh voters can punish the Welsh Labour party for picking this man if they chose to. There is nothing wrong with the WAG that an new broom cannot solve. The WAG has been 600 years coming and a great example to minortiy group worldwide. Kurds, Tibetans Tamil Sri Lankans and Ughiars in China would love such a democratic body respect and peace.

Personally, I would like to know which person I am voting for. I'm what you may call a floating voter and always research candidates and pick what seems to be the most able. [Post edited 29 Oct 22:29]

Only sheep vote for a party irrespective of the candidate. Wait a minute that's what Welsh Labour want.

The roots of democracy lie in groups of people identifying one from their community to represent them, now the Senedd are saying we will not know who our representative will be just the party they represent!

Exactly, the Labour prty, the majority of people of Wales had no say, It was the same way that the Tories chose a few PM's recently and a way that was criticised by Welsh Labour for being undemocratic, changing the leadwe should mean an election. It's not PR, they are just taking away your right to vote for a person and saying choose the party then WE will decide who represents you. I will agree about a new broom but what are the chances of that new broom happening? The Senedd are busy consolidating their position, increasing the noses in the trough and taking awayan essential part of representative politics, our right to choose the PERSON we want.

Simple reason. You now cannot vote out a sitting Senedd member you do not think is ip to the job. The senedd election is no longer democratic.

Unfortunately can only be changed by the Senedd itself. Why would labour change a voting system that gives them a permanent advantage.

Reform will use it as a stepping stone to the next general election. Imagine if they guaranteed a vote on abolishing the Senedd, would they get your vote. [Post edited 6 Nov 15:24]

You want Welsh affairs to be run by remote English people. I do not want this. It would help the Senedd if they stopped unpopular laws for the powers they have. This can be resolved by the voter. Reform / Brexit has, done enough damage..

We have a government based in Wales ,just what good has that done for those not living in the s east corner, very little .I think what you want will have little or no bearing in 2026.Reform will be targeting Wales as already posted as a stepping stone into Westminster.Already labour in recent local elections have lost power and that will continue whether you want it to or not.Reform will take over the Tories as the main opposition party.

Myself it will be Reform , when a party such as Labour especially Welsh Labour with it's history of fighting for the rights and betterment of it's population then to see the past 25 years literally destroy the very fabric of it's society without a backwards glance. The Tories aren't a viable option due to again their indifference over the past 14 years ,more concerned with itself than those it was meant to represent, the less said about PC the better., so for me and I do believe Reform cannot do any worse than the past few decades have given us.
