Ahh, Dennis Rofe. Played a handful of games for us and then seemed to have a job for life. You had to love the way he pumped up the crowd, just wearing a polo shirt in all weathers - he seemed to really care.

Then suddenly, like Keyser Soze, he was gone…

What happened?

He has been and gone a few times.

He arrived in 1992 as a player although he only managed about 20 games in two years and joined the coaching staff in 1984, initially as reserve team coach and then as a first team coach under Chris Nicholl in 1987 a role he kept until he along with Nicholl all left the club following Nicholl's sacking and the appointment of Ian Branfoot.

He returned again a few years later as youth team coach but left in 1997 to joining Fulham before returning yet again to the Dell in April 1998 as youth team coach then reserve team coach and then back to the first team under Stuart Gray in 2001.

He left for the final time in December 2005 when George Burley was appointed as manager.

Always wore a white polo neck top regardless of how freezing it might be.

I used to think he was a bit of a freak for this very reason.

Albeit a good freak.
