While there were a lot of near misses actually how many goals were conceded from playing out from the back directly?. One or two maybe and it was getting less.
How often did nervous moments convert into goal against. I do not remember many. Nervous moments are part of the package if the club can perfect the art like Man City. It also means that a player like wood sees i his value rocket and be linked with the biggest and the best and those with the deepest pockects. |  |

A lot of those goals are down to the ability of the players we have surely, Martin insisted on trying to make a silk purse out of a pigs ear, Pep has the players with the composure to do it little old Swansea don't, I've long since said this some cottoned on at the time others took longer and others much longer. |  |

If we hadn't reverted back to the comedy goal kick routine we wouldn't have been in a position whereby a slip from one player could have left us in that position in the first place.
At one point we had the second worst defensive record in the division. After shifting to a flat back four and cutting out a lot of the idiocy we conceded just nine goals in ten games. The first game that the idiocy reappears we concede a stupid goal as a result.
I can't see how the argument against Martin's preferred style can be any more justified. [Post edited 27 May 2023 14:41]

The philosophy is clear.
All Swansea players should have the basics of ball control calmness good passing and strength on the ball. They should know what to do under all circumstances and putting in out of play is just one of many options.
Putting the ball in touch gives a long throw team a shot at goal. Having a player who cannotdo these thing becomes a target to be pressurised. Most if not all Premier league teams play like this. Swansea should play like this and had 2 years of practice throughout the age groups.
Premier leagues teams supported by Middle east Governments can always come to Swansea and offer big money to get ready made players of the shelf for a mutual beneficial trade. Fees for modestly talented players has crashed. However players with big potential are still sourced.
Other teams ned to understand any player wth a Swansea CV can play.
Rushesha for example released by Swansea is not big enough? and possibly not fast enough? and has had bad injuries but the man can play. He is a Swansea product.

The "comedy goal kick routine" is here to stay, so you'd best get used to it. The goal kick rule was changed specifically to encourage this type of play. The better teams have embraced it. We should be aiming to do the same. It's not the 70s anymore. | | | |

He'll need replacing for sure. We're pretty light in that area because of Joey's age and Walsh's injury problems. I'd prefer to see someone genuinely too-footed in that position. And he's not captain material for me. | | | |

Practice make perfect. Professional footballers should be able to play out from the back with a man advantage and movement in front of them with players that can control the ball. What do they do all day with the circle holding hands and the man in the middle.?
