The transfer window deadline day thread 21:03 - Jan 27 with 28497 viewsKeithHaynes

Could be the most interesting day in years.

Clubs are playing some serious chess games.

And agents are going to ensure it’s better than any soap opera.

It should be among the minimum expected from this squad.

The squad hasn’t changed from before the window really, apart from players he didn’t want leaving.

We had a top 6 to 8 squad before the window and we still do now.

"We had a top 6 to 8 squad before the window and we still do now"

That's a matter of opinion, seeing as we were 11th before the window.

I agree but strength in depth is a worry now in case of injury. Bench isn’t particularly strong but am quite excited to see Whitaker. Coupled with teams around us strengthening apparently.

That unfortunately wasn’t down the quality of our squad, it was down to the management of our squad.

This is why people are unhappy with Russ, we have spent the majority of his time in the bottom half, vastly underperforming in relation to the quality of squad.

Anyone outside the playoffs would jump at the likes of Piroe, Ntcham, Allen, Cooper, Cabango, Grimes, Fulton, Manning, Naughton, Pato, Darling, Benda. These are top third of the league type players, and we have an embarrassment of riches when it comes to them.

We are 3pts off the playoffs, thats there or thereabouts where we should be. We have an upper half to playoff level first XI and a very mediocre bench, which often has very little impact on games.
Pato has been woeful this year so surprised to see his name mentioned as a top third of the league type player.

I wish people would stop using the “3 points away” thing. It’s not representative of reality.

If we get 3 points next week, it’s highly unlikely we will be in the play offs and extremely likely we will still be 3 points off them. It needs consistent results for a prolonged period of time to make up 3 points on 6 teams above you.

We are 12th - and that is not where we should be.

We should be top 8 as the bare minimum.

The difference between 12th and 8th most seasons is only a win or two. Maybe it's just me but i don't see anywhere near the quality or depth in the squad compared to others in the league.
There are probably 5 teams that have much better squads and then another 5 that are at our level. Where we will finish amongst them will have been hampered by an abysmal January window.

Who says we had a top 6 to 8 squad, some poster on a Football forum its an opinion not a fact, we toyed with the top 6 a while back, but we are probably now back where we should be, its not all down to the Manager/Coaches etc, as much has I would be happy to see them go, they don't take to field and kick the ball around, players have to take their own reasonability as players, where's the Captain in all this? after all he his the Captain.

What is worrying after this transfer Window debacle If Martin and his staff did go, who is gonna replace them, Yanks ain't gonna spend money to get in a "decent" Manager who us disgruntled fans are gonna like and who is gonna work miracles, its the stuff of dreams and fantasies to think that'll happen.

I did say if we suffer from some bad circumstances, illness, injury, suspensions or more arguments.
As it stands we are 13 points ahead of Huddersfield with 18 games left though thy have a game in hand, do you think it's impossible given that we can draw a lot of games and lose some but not win many?

It might be unlikely but it's not impossible. We have one first choice keeper, who was second choice until recently. We have Piroe and Cullen but no other strikers besides Whittaker who wants to be a 10. We have lati or Sorinola at right wing back....we have no cover in several positions...

You tell me, is it impossible? Specially iven the schitt show we have witnessed this last transfer window.

Yes it is impossible, they will not win every other game as the other 3 or 4 teams won't do as they are down there for a reason, they keep losing more than they draw or even win and we won't lose more than we will draw or even win.

I for one am not worried, what I am worried about is next season, as we all now know, our owners do not want to put a dime into making the squad stronger, they do not give a flying f@#£ about the team, this worries me.

Hasn’t that always been the case though?

Even the greatest football league squad we have ever had looked extremely weak on the bench.

Ma-Kalambay
Pratley
Beattie
Serrán
Moore
Gower
Richards

That’s the bench for the play off final vs Reading in 2011.

Pratley is the only worthy first teamer in that list, who is probably equivalent to Pato on our bench today.

The rest are poor squad players.

We can add Ntcham, Naughton, Wood and Cundle to that who are all worthy starters some with Premier League and World Cup experience.

If you could explain what the dire straits are, compared to where the club is today I would be grateful. I’m asking for your reasoning and understanding of todays situation that reflects your constant posting of nothing but negativity. For two years. Can’t you see anything positive despite this awful transfer window and the lies behind it ?

Surely there’s something in there that you see that could potentially lift you from your constant paralysis ?
