Joe Allen on 17:10 - May 8 by PawelAbbott | He is not an international level player. He gets in the Wales team as the competition is so bad. He wouldn't get a cap for a top international side. |
I take it you don't watch Wales play then? And if he was good enough to get into a top international side he wouldn't be at Stoke and looking for a move to Swansea.

Joe Allen on 17:29 - May 8 by Treforys_Jack | Mate, all opinions are valid, but that is a bizarre one. He's not an international |
He plays international games for an average international side. When you look at players and say they are Premiership class, then better than that being international class. Hes not in that league. Then, playing for a mid-level international set up like Wales isn't what is meant by that. Otherwise playing for the Faroes or San Marino makes you international class. It doesn't does it. He has played a good number of international games for Wales but it hardly makes him one of the top midfielders in the UK or Europe. 4 years at Stoke and not one Premier league club showed an interest. If he wasn't from Camarthen and for nostalgia, people would be going nuts at him being linked to us

Joe Allen on 12:09 - May 8 by icecoldjack | The yanks had a perfect chance to sign Joe Allen yonks ago, they didn't want to make that no brainer signing then, but fancy it now that he's 32yrs old had a big injury and is coming to the end of his career. Sums up the way our club is run. Also, the talk of Joe returning is surely a signal that Downes and/or Piroe will be sold, its a name that will be the perfect smokescreen for yet more selling of assets while the fan fair of a local hero returning softens the blow of losing the talent that would help us gain Premier league |
Downes may very well be sold. But Joe could just be a replacement for Fulton. He'd fit the system far better.

Respectfully disagree, we know what he's about and we know he'll care unlike many of those imposters in the shirt yesterday. As I said, all opinions are valid.

Yes, he would care and he would probably be captain. But is he blocking a player from coming through or taking up the wage of a player who good enough to play in the Premier league like a bew Downes? If he had joined us and not Stoke at that time he would have been an ideal signing. At 32 getting him back suggests the club have run out of transfer ideas, again. It's like the summer under Sousa where we had Trundle back and Bayo on the M4.

There are a lot of bang average international players in the second tier mind. Joe would be a star player for the Faroes or San Marino. He left Liverpool to go to Stoke who then got relegated, it's not like he has never been premier league quality. Wales has rarely had more than 1 or 2 real top quality players at the same time, for a long time. Maybe not since 1958 but the Rush/Hughes/Ratcliffe/Southall era was probably the last time and we didn't do well back then. I'm not so keen on the idea because he is 32 and has struggled recently but he may still be better than what we have. Just maybe, Joe giving 100% for us will be good enough but if he comes or not, we won't be spending big on a replacement. Can you think of any current EPL quality midfielders we can afford to sign?

Although I think Downes is a fantastic footballer I can see this happening. We play only two midfielders in the middle currently Grimes and Downes if available. We would not bring Allen in, if he comes, not to play him. RM will not change his formation and Grimes will not be benched or Downes, so IMO for Allen to come in Downes has to be sold.
