Great to see Ben Stokes will be fit for the Ashes

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/59022351

The touring conditions will be particularly onerous this time round, so hope he's in a good place mentally too

But first up - the T20 World Cup, and a great start against WI, our nemesis in the last Final

Poll: What are you planning to do v Newport

Decisive victory in the end, an almost record-breaking 323 runs

Some encouraging signs of a side being put together for the assault on the Ashes next winter, both in the batting and bowling departments

Central to all this will be Stokes himself. His selfless declaration on 49no spoke volumes whilst his 3 quick wickets to wrap up the proceedings suggests he can still operate as the much-needed 3rd or 4th seamer to retain the balance of the side. Keeping him fit for next winter is the biggest challenge, but there's no doubting his restored morale after the travails of Pakistan, including having his wife and kids exposed to home raiders - something which must take an horrendous toll when you realise it only happened in your absence

The one fly in the ointment is the form of Crawley. I think McCullum will stick with him until the summer but unless he starts to produce again, an alternative opener must be found. Passengers in Australia are too expensive, whilst waiting for the one big innings that mightn't arrive

Agree on much of that. Even if Crawley were to have a decent summer his record overseas is much inferior to at home.

Id also be wary of taking Woakes….great bowler on home soil but his record in Australia is poor. Australian conditions dont suit his bowling.

Aussies just had a big win over India to tie up that series. But then Aussie bowlers always seem to be lethal after dark in Adelaide.
