Obviously we're a much more attractive proposition ;) but I'd have thought by staying at Fulham he'll have a good chance of being a mainstay in a team with a much higher chance of promotion next season. Happy to be proved wrong though!

It can't have been great for SJ's self-esteem to have been promoted twice with Fulham, and then on both occasions to have been considered not up to the job when it came to the PL - and not even a squad player this time. I guess a lot depends on his relationship with Parker, and whether Parker is still in charge. I reckon most Fulham would love to keep him, and his loan spell with you has shown that he's still a class act in the Championship.

Fulham on 08:53 - May 11 by switchingcode | Although we have a chance of replacing you it won’t be the end of the world if we blow out yet again in the play offs.I watched the game last night and thought Burnley would slaughter us and they are a bottom 6 PL side.I have to wonder if it’s worth the embarrassment of getting to this promised land (that hardly ever is for most clubs )where all the talk is money and spunking it on average players. This season has been crap for fans like myself who goes to at least 90% of games H and A but we have performed well and exceeded my expectations after selling 2 top players and like other clubs losing key players to injuries although the standard this season has been poor. I would take the same next season in the championship as along with it being a fantastic league ,propping up the PL and getting battered most weeks doesn’t appeal to me.Unless you are a big club with wealthy owners what’s the point.Fulham have a very wealthy owner so they should be able to compete with at least half of these teams and as they have before become an established PL side.I expect them and maybe West Brom to occupy top 2 places next season after that it’s all down to survival for many championship clubs as there will be many clubs with financial issues to resolve post covid. Ah well at least you will be able to come to our new ground in greater numbers next season and on that subject I will be seeing it for the first time when we play Bournmouth Saturday week and Toney for the first and maybe last time. |
If you do get promoted how do you think your recruitment strategy will change? Presumably you won't sell star players as you have done previously? Also, if you continue with the data based recruitment but with more money, could prove very effective?

Fulham on 09:47 - May 11 by Konk | Well done on getting a ticket for next week, mate. I hope you enjoy it. No offence, but I'm obviously hoping Brentford don't go up - that and Chelsea winning the CL would be the icing on the cake! Pi ssing about at the bottom, being a bit sh it in the PL isn't much fun, but Leeds, Wolves - even Sheff Utd the previous season - have shown that it doesn't have to be that way. And there is something great about beating any of the wealthiest clubs, on the odd occasion it happens. But ultimately, I just want my team to be competitive in a competitive division. I got a thousand times more enjoyment being neck-and-neck for promotion all season with Wigan, Carlisle and Swansea in the 4th division, than I ever got from finishing 12-16th in the PL. From the outside it might seem a bit entitled to moan about Shad Khan - he's spent a fortune and not loaded debt on the club, and the new stand makes it less likely that we'll ever leave the Cottage - but it is incredibly frustrating watching a rich man indulge his son, even though he's proven himself to be completely out of his depth. |
ðŸ‘but we get to beat wealthier and much bigger clubs in the championship and I know I’m in the minority of Bees fans and the owner but “pissing about at the bottom being shite in the Pl “is not for me.Clubs like Wolves and Leeds are massive and have spent fortunes to get and maintain a place in the PL.Whatever happens Toney will be sold

If you do go up, don’t try and stay up. It’ll cost everything you gain from being in the PL and it will all go to players and agents anyway. Better to spend as little as possible on players even if Toney is sold for £££££, come down heroically and use the money to pay off as much of the new ground as possible, improve training facilities if needs be, reduce ticket/merchandise etc pricing to keep the ground full (bums on seats, it works for West Ham who subsidise prices to get the ground full). I mean this with all respect, I don’t think Brentford is experienced enough yet (we tried and failed miserably, twice) to mount a challenge to stay in the PL. There's a risk of getting eaten alive. Get there, learn, come down, spend the money as per above, grow, try again. [Post edited 11 May 2021 11:57]

Good post Konker. I agree with a lot of it and honestly don't have much interest in promotion. Would love the journey, but not the destination.

If we went up we won’t have that option as the wages alone would eat into the TV money as even with our new stadium we can only get 17800 through the gates a big improvement but barely touches the surface on that expense. It’s no secret Matthew Benham is not in it for the long term and is not in the same league as most PL owners and many championship. I agree with all you have said though I’ve always thought before a season starts dont go down and don’t go bust. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Not much of a prediction that, Gazza! I mean, I think City might win the Prem next year too. They’ve just collected over 30 points in the Prem; finished in the play offs the year before; will be receiving their second “Year 1” parachute payment in 3 years, with the year in between getting Prem money; possess a number of players proven to be top Championship players; have crowds returning to a newly refurbished ground, and we’ve just had a season where all 3 teams relegated from the Prem finished Top 6, with 2 gaining automatic promotion. It would be a colossal f*ck up if they weren’t in the top 6. With this Khan manchild at the helm he might give it a good go, but I’d be astounded if they’re not in the automatic promotion hunt.
Fulham on 14:28 - May 12 with 1230 views | larsricchi | I don't follow Fulham on The Athletic, but this "Fulham...now what?" article hit my feed: https://theathletic.com/2576116/2021/05/11/what-next-for-fulham-club-want-parker Two sentences about Johansen: "Queens Park Rangers manager Mark Warburton has publicly expressed his desire to keep Stefan Johansen, who has excelled since joining his January loan move. Considering he was omitted from Fulham’s Premier League squad, an exit is conceivable." I went through the comments and only saw one mention, where he was referred to as "a good squad player to have." Not sure this means anything, but I was pleased that our #1 (or #1b, at worst) target was an afterthought in the article.

On the face of it, Hunter, you are right but there have a quite a few clubs that have struggled when relegated despite having loads of cash and decent players at their disposal...... I can recall Hull, Middlesboro, Sunderland, Stoke, maybe others have still struggled. A couple I have mentioned have even dropped to Div 1. Re Fulham, lots of questions player wise, not only what players will be staying, but what will the players be like mentally playing in the Championship after the Premier, playing so many matches may not go down too well either.....but also a big question is whether the Manager will still be there. It isn't all rosy over at the Cottage. They should still, at the very least make the play-offs minimum but, hey, you know as well as me that it isn't going to be easy just because of what you have mentioned. PS - We went down with 30 points. [Post edited 12 May 2021 18:29]

Fulham on 21:06 - May 12 with 871 views | derbyhoop | The disparity in income between the relegated sides with their parachute payments and the rest of the Championship, should give the 3 relegated sides a huge advantage. But, balanced against that is there could be a danger of a losing mentaiity which takes time to overcome. And it depends how well those clubs are run. Watford and Norwich have gone back up after limited expectations in the PL and set up as top Championship clubs. Bournemouth had a massive fire sale but kept enough quality that they could join the other 2. I'm not sure the 3 relegated clubs will be as stable for next season. From Konk's assessment there is a lot of rebuilding to do at Fulham. West Brom surely can't keep Pereira but otherwise look the best placed to return. The Blades got promoted because of Wilder. He's gone so can somebody else reproduce that harmony. I suspect next year's Championship will be very competitive with no outstanding side but not many out of their depth (Wycombe, Rotherham?). Summer transfer activity could drive the final table - 9 months later.
