Summer Transfers 10:49 - May 30 with 138557 views | derbyhoop | There's always lots of speculation, 90% generated by agents. Might be good to have 1 thread. I don't understand the speculation that has linked us with Adam Matthews from Sunderland, Adam Maher from AZ Alkmaar and Liam Kelly from Livingstone. Matthews is a RB where we have Furlong, Rangel and Kakay Maher is a midfielder where, even if Freeman goes, we're not short of options. Kelly is a keeper. We have Lumley, Ingram and Dieng, unless the latter goes to Glasgow Rangers.

Summer Transfers on 21:50 - Jul 1 by Lblock | At his peak = decent price can be extracted from a club looking for an instant fix to their aspirations Alternatively........ buy and lease back Loftus Road and build a team around him of hungry young talent and established experience with goals in them |
I knew it wouldn't be long before this 'buy and lease back loftus road' thing started. Cataclysmically stupid idea given our owner's track record. They've blown three separate promotion monies, three separate portions of Premier League Sky money, five years of parachute payments and about £200m of their own money, but now you want to cede ownership of our stadium to them to free up another £60m+ so they can keep hold of Luke Freeman and buy a whole load more footballers?

Summer Transfers on 19:09 - Jul 1 by Lblock | I see Che Adams has signed for Southampton for about £15mill Brings me back to that point about him being worth three and half Charlie Austin’s Or three times as much as Freeman? Adams is a good player but is that the market rate? Brum in a similar financial state to us but they’ve negotiated a decent fee there |
"Brum in a similar financial state to us but they’ve negotiated a decent fee there" Goals is the important factor. Apparently Burnley bid £12m in January for him. That's the sort of fee that a player who scores 22 goals in a season, whether he's a one season wonder or not, will get you. Freeman may be well up the assists table (although only six last year) but he still didn't really score enough goals to be able to command a decent fee, just twelve in the last two seasons although admittedly in a mediocre/poor team. Someone of his ability should be looking to get at least double figures every season. Maddison getting fifteen goals and eight assists got Norwich a tidy £22m from Leicester.

i've seen that 'six' figure before and disproved it. It's total BS. Don't make me go and watch all our goals again or find that post, but if memory serves it was double that.

We're pretty generous in the award of assist -for instance if Freeman whips a great corner in, Smith heads it down and Luongo scores, then we award assists to Freeman and Smith - but we had him down for 16 last season. 8 goals (Peterborough H, Bolton A, Sheff Wed H, Hull H, Villa A, West Brom H, Leeds H), 16 assists (West Brom A, Wigan H, Bolton A, Reading A, Ipswich A, Brentford H, Brentford H, Forest A, Ipswich H, Leeds H FAC, Pompey A, Pompey H, Birmingham H, Birmingham H, Swansea H, Blackburn H)

Exactly, I went through and got a similar figure I think, but even without the someone else touched it before we scored from a corner thing, I think he still had 11 or 12.

Whether it's six or sixteen, my point still stands that he doesn't really score enough to justify a decent fee. Players who score goals, generate high transfer fees. If he had scored 18-20 for us the last two seasons added to his assists, we'd probably now be looking at getting at least £8-10m for him IMO.

Excellent point. I think if Darnell Furlong scored 15 a season he'd be worth more too.

Summer Transfers on 21:59 - Jul 1 by Northernr | In comedy news, Lee Cattermole has somehow got another Championship deal at Sheff Wed. Through sobs over the WhatsApp, our Sheff Wed man tells me he thinks Jake Bidwell is going on their tour next week as a trialist. |
Swansea pip them to the punch with a straight contract offer no trial apparently.

I thought the same! Still more believable than Rodwell getting a go at Blackburn though. Good luck to Bids, he deserves a good club.

The 26-year-old will also join the team on their pre-season trip to Portugal. Surely last chance saloon for the one-time wonderkid?

I was wondering if we'd take a punt on Marcus Edwards from Spurs' kids ourselves. Very similar profile to Ravel from the looks of it, another generational talent gone astray.

They originate from Sean Gallagher, used to be on the locals covering QPR so well connected, now with TalkSport. Had an interview with Ferdinand this morning and has agreed to abide by an embargo on the names.

Bit cheeky to expect him to go on trial at his age and with his experience and decent injury record. They should know of his utter mediocrity by now surely.

Summer Transfers on 11:36 - Jun 5 by dublinr | Like I said, if it happens they might be great signings. We all remember Warnock bringing in hill and Derry. But I do think it could be called lazy recruitment. I'd love us to have a system in place, with a dof and scouts identifying both the squad's needs and possible targets, then following their progress over a number of seasons and monitoring their availability. That's how to do it. And how we say we're doing it. But if we're still in fact letting the latest new manager open the contacts on his phone and say 'I know a couple of lads who could do a job for us', then I'd say that was lazy. And a bigger gamble than we need take. Might work? Of course it might. Using the latest manager's knowledge and experience? Sure, it sounds OK. But its still a quick fix and more likely to cause long-term grief than doing it the right way. That's how we ended up with a squad full of ex-managers' picks. |
Bump. Feeling gloomier by the day. This is definitely the wrong way to go about recruitment. If you're not convinced, check out WATRB where everyone thinks us signing every available Warburton ex is fantastic. The wrong system might still turn up a diamond though. Here's hoping.
