I really like the view that I've got from the Willbutts Lane stand. Unfortunately the sound system sounds even worse from here. There's an echo which means that it's virtually impossible to tell either what's being said or what's being played.

My season ticket is in the main stand and some of the moaning and unconstructive criticism of the players sometimes get's on my nerves but each to their own. Was nice to go in the Willbutt's and see young lads getting behind the team, and as for trying to get a reaction from the Bromley end it looked to me like good natured football banter.Also the guy who threatened the Sandy Drummer ought to be ashamed of himself if that's what has happened.

I've moved on from it but the person in question who stands by the programme stand on the corner of Wilbutts lane and the TDS before the match still occasionally takes verbal digs as I walk past him.

That's the one.
It's been over a year since it happened now so I guess I can tell the full story now without repercussions (pun very much intended).
He just didn't like the fact that someone new had gone in the Sandy Lane and had starting banging a drum. Said he'd never seen me there before and if I dreamed of showing my face with or without the drum he'd smash the heavy duty metal drum sticks around my head until I was dead (pretty much word for word what was said).
This was followed by him physically approaching me as I walked round the stadium to make the complaint, calling me a t wat and almost pushing me into the wall of the stadium.
Bearing in mind I've been going in the Sandy Lane since 1999 standing in the same place about 5 metres to his right then I'm not sure how he'd never seen me before but oh well.
I had a few other people complain to me and I explained the situation but thankfully everyone apart from this one guy was reasonable and understood it wasn't my idea, I was just the guy who volunteered!
Certainly never expected death threats from a fellow Rochdale fan but I avoided the Sandy Lane (and Spotland) for a good 6 months after that day. I'm not sensitive by any means but it was just a bit of a shock to the system.
I really hope people think twice before giving these kids abuse because all they're trying to do is create an atmosphere. Clap your hands, sing along with them or do whatever you want but these lads are volunteering to help build an atmosphere so just let them get on with it and don't hurl abuse at them.

But I also agree with those who were sat near the group of fans including the drummer in the Willbutts last Saturday, and found their general approach to be more focused on goading the away fans than about supporting the team on the pitch. They're normally a couple of blocks away from me in the Pearl St and when the Willbutts is full they've been responsible, along with their counterparts in the away end, for causing the police to have to be deployed to prevent serious mayhem
If you were (understandably) put off from coming to games after threatening behaviour against yourself, it's not acceptable to most Dale fans that we have a contingent - however much atmosphere they create - who are also inclined to engage in confrontational behaviour, with the police, stewards, peaceful fans and ultimately the club bearing the costs

That's absolutely fair enough, I was sat at the opposite end of the stand to them so couldn't really see what they were doing and if they were goading the opposition fans rather than supporting the players then I would have been annoyed too.
I imagine they get a bit giddy being able to be so close to the away fans. Albeit no excuse, the club shouldn't have to foot the bill for increased policing and stewarding if they spend the match goading opposition fans. It does run the risk of turning into 'idiot corner' at Gigg Lane if not managed properly.
It could even be worth getting a couple of club officials to sit with or around them for a couple of matches. Important looking people tend to have an effect on behavior.
I'm 100% sure the teething problems could be nipped in the bud and the young lads can crack on with creating an atmosphere.

I’m nobody’s spokesman but my own. I shall have my face turned towards the pitch from my regular seat in the main stand from next home game. Maybe you missed the point I’m making new blood coming to watch Dale should be celebrated not scorned at. You have been watching dale for fifty years (very commendable) so in all likelihood that means your over the age of sixty and will probably not be here in thirty years or so. Given the towns demographics and the fact that we are on the doorstep of other big premier league teams without denigrating older Dale fans the club needs more young people going to watch it to ensure it’s future existence.

As for the drummer bois in the Pearl Street. There's a few in there who need to grow up. Some of them are certainly more interested in the away fans than the game, which is tin pot, but overall they're making a noise in a stadium that is quieter than I can ever remember. I think they attract some scruffy tossers who'd normally be singing songs about bury bombers or doing soccer am things.
All-in-all the committed drummers and singers need to take inspiration from these bunch of wallies.
