No, I'm not overreacting.

Why the on earth is Keith Hill playing or right back at centre midfield and a centre half at right back?

Is he fecking surprised we concedes two goals in 4 minutes?

What an absolute joke that was, half the players looked like they couldn't be arsed.

Our defence is a shambles and we'll be lucky to finish above 20th.

Hopefully we can recruit an actual defence before deadline day and Hill absolutely bollocks the players because that was a joke.

Wish I'd chosen a different username...

Good point, regarding the manager does anybody question anything at all?.There seems to be a actual fear of the guy around the Club from what i can glean, rightly or wrongly. Is he such a control freak that he can't be questioned regarding team selection/ formation and in particulary player absence and injury? That must be a myth at this level of football ( the fear factor)surely, even Fergie wasn't thst bad.

Obviously he might not like being probed on these matters but its part and parcel of being a manager and why they are well rewarded even at league one standard. Meanwhile the fans are left to speculate and probably bark up the wrong tree on a multitude of things, but is it any wonder when they are treated like imposters. First question post match yesterday should be why are you playing our 2 best defenders in each others position and the thinking behind it.Dereliction of duty by any reporter if that question isn't top of the pile.

Players just disappearing for weeks/ months on end with no explanation is obviously going to attract the fans attention, it would at any cub, are we not worthy of an explanation? Maybe i'm doing Hill a diservice and he isn't the person being portrayed, maybe he's never asked the questions in the first place for whatever reason.

I've been questioning this for a while now. I'm starting to believe it's true. Add to that the fact we don't have a decent local reporter worth their salt and I can only see this situation continuing.

We go to Tenerife and come back with a raft of injured players

At the recent fans forum, I tried to broach this but if I'd asked directly about the Tenerife training regime I suspect the response would've been entirely negative and I didn't want to create a soured atmosphere at the outset

I framed the issue in a different way, by enquiring if we had a specialist fitness coach, thus directing any potential criticism away from KH himself. We do, so there has to be an issue with whether he's got it right in terms of overstretching things. I'm sure the training camp has a bonding benefit which KH values but it's to be hoped he's got the proneness to injury thing under review since it's happening every year now

The decision to give Jim the 2 year contract extension becomes more baffling by the game. Granted he wasnt the only one to have a shocker today but he and Hendo are the only ones to have played every minute so far this season.

I get the impression, maybe wrongly, that our defence is being manipulated by the game to accommodate him.

We were poor today and this maybe contrary to popular belief but McNulty had a good game..? He's had his fair share of poor games but I don't think he's had one yet this season!

It's almost as if some supporters want to say he played poorly. McGahey was absolutely catastrophic today but that doesn't seem to get a mention..?

His mistakes are magnified due to mistakes he's made in the past but some players mistakes are brushed under the carpet...

I expect a barrage of abuse from this but I challenge anyone to sign up to iFollow and watch our 4 games this season with an OPEN mind and say that McNulty has been Abysmal!

It would be interesting if there were a "league table" of injuries (and there may be that I don't know about). We seem to get more than our fair share, but what is the "fair share" at our level.?

From KH's comments he seemed very happy with his squad, which implies good strength in depth. Our poor start, however, regardless of where players have been played, illustrates how important a full strength team is in this league. I hope we can get back there soon and the evidence is that we are moving in the right direction with Bunney and McGahey returning.

Different people see different things! Nthle didn't track his player and that was the player that Keane took out.
Also Keane didn't need to make a stupid tackle that left us playing 70 mins with 10 men.
Yes McNulty is part of a leaky defense but not 1 goal this season has been totally down to him!
McNulty hatters are us?
We are Rochdale with the lowest budget in the league so where not going to sign the best defenders, so we work with what we've got and get behind them!

I'm not a McNulty hater, but he played a big part in Keane's red card at Portsmouth.

Yesterday, I thought he was generally fine and there were much worse performers than him.

The red card? McNulty went for a tackle on the half way line that was his man, the runner came from there right wing nthle man who he didn't track back.
Keane then took him out in my opinion a stupid tackle that didn't need to be made, so apart from making a tackle on his man how was this goal or the sending off down to McNulty?

I haven't mentioned any goals.

I thought McNulty over-committed himself and left the rest of the defence exposed, including Keane, who should have done better.

Because it was McNulty’s error which led to Keane having to chase for the ball. I always feel that he has a mistake in him, he is though a better option than Canavan

IMO Jim would be the reserve centre back. Yesterday Canavan and Nthle were both very poor.

It was Jim's fault that Keane was so exposed at Pompey.

He made a very weak attempt at a tackle on the half way line, thus leaving a massive gap where he should have been in our defence.
Keane was too slow to get back, and stupidly caught the attacker and was correctly sent off, so he takes blame as well, and has now been omitted by Hill.

And yesterday Jim had a hand in all three of Shrewsbury's goals.

The first one...he had a defensive header to make, but headed the ball almost sideways and directly to their player who was fouled by Rathbone for the penalty.

Second goal. What on earth was he doing? As someone else said, he needs to either go to the ball or track backwards. It's clear that McGahey is out of position and struggling to get back. Jim did nothing... preferring to mark the open space, thus leaving them with 2 players against one in the centre of the box. He then berates Canavan, who didn't have a cat in hells chance of preventing the header.

Third goal. Another (of many) poor clearances from the keeper. Jim dawdles coming out of defence, and plays their man onside. Awful defending.

I've said it before. One of Jim's biggest shortcomings is that he doesn't keep level with other defenders, thus playing attackers onside when they would otherwise be well offside.

If we continue to play him, we will ship goals. It's one of Hills biggest shortcomings that he seems blind to our defensive woes, and has even given Jim an extended contract.

It's an interesting thought, and I definitely think there's something in it - whatever mistakes McNulty makes will be emphasised far more than others' due to his poor performances in the past. Certainly yesterday Nthle and McGahey were our worst defenders, yet if Canavan and McNulty had been the worst defenders then more would have been made of their errors. That's football though, we have more tolerance for poor performances from players we know will probably be better next week.

Regarding the header that McNulty made leading up to the penalty decision. I am not sure which direction would have been better than the one he chose. If he heads it front right then it ends up in the path of their 23. Behind and right in the path of 9 who would have been through on goal. Diagonally left the ball ends up in a large area of space that their players can run into.
After he made the header our players should have been quicker in getting to the ball or their player that picked it up and closing him down, or at least shepherding him away from our area.

Regards to their second goal yes McNulty appears to be bobbing about like a rubber duck on a big green sea, but why was Mcgahey having to provide cover on the wing so close to the half way line? The third goal is it possible considering the ref had already awarded three penalties both McNulty and Mcgahey who were closest to the player that scored the goal didn't go in with more steel because of that.

Loads of focus on the centre backs but worth remembering we conceded just as many goals with Eastham and O'Connell as the first choice pairing. Two players that most fans rate highly. We desperately need a proper defensive midfielder. Thought before the season started that we'd struggle and unfortunately looks likely to be the case.

In his first season with Rochdale didn't he do quite well? What do you think has gone wrong and is it worth loaning him out to a league 2 or even national league club so he can get his head back together?

He did and was poor at right back, didn't look sharp at all. The difference with Canavan was he was dreadful full stop, hence why he was subbed.

reJames1980's point on Canavan's first (part) season: he did perfectly fine during a period when the team went back to basics and the Spotland pitch was poor. He's your classic lower league defender who will kick it and head it during a battle.

People keeo citing Jim and Canavan but what about McGahey playing at right back, why was he even there? He had a shocker and his distrubution, just like Clare at left back was amatuerish. So both full backs and Canavan played crap. Jims problem is when he starts thinking, if he cuts that out, we have a half decent player!!
