Sell Siggy 10:16 - Aug 6 with 6205 views | andrew | Replace Routledge Replace Naughton If we play like that or better every game this season we can fight for top 8. I wish we knew why ta going on so long but the longer it goes ok the worse it is for us, get rid tomorrow, Carrol had 3 assists last night so f**k him.

Sell Siggy on 12:33 - Aug 7 by monmouth | He seems to have forgotten the very first game after Rodgers f*cked off too, where Routledge (and Dyer) played a starring role in the demolition of QPR. In fact they were pivotal to that whole season along with Michu and DeGuz. Many of the experts on here have never rated three out of those four though, so it can't be true. All those managers, all so wrong. All those keyboard burger flippers, all so right. I'd like to see an upgrade now, but the lack of any respect for someone that has given a lot to the cause, gets right on my tits. |
Why ahould others' opinions bother you so much? I've got total respect for those guys - but nostalgia shouldn't get in the way of speaking up and saying that neither (Dyer and Routlege) should be regular starters for our team any longer - unless they rediscover that form. You can now add Naughton to that list as well. Scores a great and key goal for us last year and now nobody's allowed to point out that they don't think he's good enough to be first choice.

I totally agree with all of that. Routledge has been a quality buy in my mind. How much did we actually pay Newcastle for him? £1.5 Mill seems to ring true... Never understood why Rodgers hardly played him. Recall him having a great game away at Liverpool with Sinclair coming on for him in last 5 mins or so. Next game Routs out and SS straight back in and lets all be honest SS was a shadow of the player he was in the championship the year before. Recall talking to him at the end of training one day, towards the end of that season and asking him if he was staying as id read he was moving on and him saying he hoped so, but wasn't sure if he was in Rodgers plans. Routs was perfectly suited to the Laudrup style. Him along with Dyer making up the front 3 with Michu was simply awesome. Can understand some moaning about the flicks that don't come off, which are highlighted more since our style has changed and we now see a lot less of the ball. But the grief he gets on here is a total joke.... Don't hear the Siggy love boys, moan about his Piss Poor first touch that often ends with losing possession, but hey ho.

Rodgers had a blind spot regarding Sinclair and simply wouldn't drop or sub him in our first Prem season even though, like you said, he was a shadow of the player was in the previous season and had many a poor game so Routs was the one who missed out week after week. When both Rodgers and Sinclair departed, Routs became a consistent first choice starter under Laudrup and had several excellent seasons before losing some of his pace. He may never have been our best player but for 2-3 seasons I thoroughly enjoyed watching him every week and for what he cost, he has been excellent value. Still has a part to play this season I'm sure, even though his presence will not be as significant as in previous seasons.

If we are going to play fluid football like we did on Saturday, he will get a fair amount of game time. Probably more first 18 than first 11, but he will have a part to play. If we are going to play more rigidly, with players sticking to set positions and areas, like most of last season, we won't see much of him. He has very obvious weaknesses but some underrated strengths.
