I totally respect the varied and deep muso knowledge held by everyone on this forum. Therefore I was interested in suggestions you have for tracks where the lyrics tell a story or have a very specific meaning/philosophy.
My 8yr old girl is massively into music, real music, which is great. She hasn't a clue what X Factor or 1D is in fact and I intend to keep it that way! But where she hooks into songs is in the lyrics. She likes stuff that tells a story or has a clear meaning (and obviously the tune needs to be great too). Examples of stuff she likes now...
Rocky Raccoon - The Beatles Children's Story - Slick Rick Chuck Es in Love - Rikki Lee Jones War Pigs - Black Sabbath
Your suggestions could help make a great playlist, thankee sirs!...
Forgot this song which is a bit stupid You could start a whole new thread on this story But Steve Earles song is the most powerful song I know, fantastic songwriting
Prince - sign of the times Specials - too much too young Bobby Womack - i wish he didn't trust me so much wilton felder - no matter how high Booby Womack - Please Forgive My Heart
in fact pretty much most of Bobby Womack's catalogue as that was one fukked up life laid down on vinyl.
maybe none of these for an 8 year as i'm getting melancholy/depressed just thinking about the content!

Sign o the Times, great song, great album (2nd best double album of all time after London Calling??)
but I've always had an issue with this lyric.....
at home there's 17 year old boys and their idea of fun is being in a bang called the Disciples high on crack and toting a machine gun
It's a long time since I was 17 but even so I do think that actually does sound like quite a lot of fun
