Now that's irony I'd be happy my clubs making a profit at this level after having a player for more or less half a season

The 'sell-on' clause won't matter whether he's transferred after 1 game or 10 seasons, provided they sell him for more than they paid. What we won't get, is any bonus due, had they achieved promotion last season. With the amount of money that must be swilling around in the coffers at Wigan, it could be a substantial pay day for Dale if Matty goes there for a big fee.

These things often happen when a manager is replaced. Maybe Adkins wants other players to be brought in and has been told he has to sell 1st? Or maybe he doesn't rate Done? Who knows.

Aye Sudden, know it's not the time he's at Sheff U that matters but the profit they make on a resale. Our 25% or whatever it is a percentage of that profit. Just think if Done stays there and can score say 10/12 by the January window, then his value could be double what Wigan or anyone else would have to pay right now - which surely won't be so very much over what SU paid us.

Agreed, if Sheff Utd sell him now it should be for exactly what they paid us. He is the same player only 6 months older - he didn't go there and score goals in a better division than us - it was the same level. If they make any profit on him in such a short time it would just mean we under valued him. [Post edited 19 Jun 2015 8:26]

Matty done on 10:20 - Jun 19 with 4207 views | D_Alien | Not necessarily. If Done had a release clause in his contract which stipulated he could be sold if a certain figure was reached, there's little we could've done about it. I'd argue that his value might've increased through demonstrating he can be successful immediately following a move, and to a biggish club. That means Wigan (or anyone else) should have no qualms about him settling in, plus they've got a higher threshold due to their greater spending capacity. If we get our add-on, it might'nt be much but we shouldn't knock it for that.

I was really trying to make the point that the 'bonus' payment we were likely to have receive if SUFC had been promoted would have probably been a larger sum than any proposed percentage payment from a 'sell-on' clause if he goes to (wherever) for a profit.
