Wonder where this leaves Jack O'Connell's long term prospects? If true?

Or indeed Scott Hogan.

Outrageous decision if true - he's shown enough to walk into another job but unsettling for all concerned

He would have been a Mark Warburton signing along with Scott Hogan.

Matthew Benham, the club’s owner, has made it clear that he is determined to pursue a new direction

That can only be downwards surely?

Both Jack and Scotty!

Still shaking my head over this.

Don't they know that as far as they're concerned, Warburton's the best thing since sliced bread?

Brentford claiming they are just planning for the future should some other club come and steal their current Manager. Hmmmmm.

Completely idiotic. The Bees form has already dipped and I'm sure the fans will let the chairman know of their opinions

I would expect the majority of our fans to back our owner's decision.

Don't get me wrong I'm gutted Warburton is going at the end of the season but.... the owner has a vision that he wants to stick to (and offered Warburton a chance to stay), which will hopefully lead to greater things in the long run.

as for this season i think we can write it off (we're safe at least!) and look forward to the future.

A lot of people don't realise that without Matthew Benham we wouldn't actually have a club.

There are echoes in that point of view with our situation with the sale of Matty Done.

If you reckon the majority believe Benham genuinely has the best interests of the club at heart, and the decision is with a long-term view, then fair enough.

Just looks very strange from where we're stood (or sat!), with Brentford riding high under Warburton's management.

Leyton Orient - owner stuck his oar in, upset Russell Slade, ruined team morale and his meddling and changing of managers has successfully taken a team a penalty kick away from the championship to a team fighting to stay in League 1.

I fully expect Brentford to struggle next season

I'm treating this announcement a bit like when Southampton announced they were getting rid of Nigel Adkins. People outside the club were shocked and some wanted them to fail, but i think it's fair to say the Saints are doing ok now...

Benham does have the club's best interests at heart , he's stood on the terrace as a fan and knows the rubbish/pain we've gone through. Upto now he has put in £90 million to improve the club (new stadium on it's way plus total overhaul of our academy).

I personally think he is going down the "moneyball" route for Brentford with mentions of a new recruitment structure using a mixture of traditional scouting and other tools including mathematical modelling!

He's earn t the right to give it a go, as he sees fit (lets hope for my sake he knows what he's doing!! )

The echoes grow stronger.

Our manager has built up such an enormous amount of credit, he's allowed the odd mistake or three and has proven himself capable of pulling us through every time. When he took over first time round, we were about to go bottom of L2 and skint. Our first promotion in 40 long hard years followed soon after our first visit to Wembley.

Second time round, we were heading the same way. We're now well on course to securing a position in L1 from which to build, with money in the bank to purchase our stadium, and attracting talented youngsters both from outside the club and from within our own youth set up.

Will be interesting to see what happens with Brentford, not least because you've got Scott Hogan and Jack O'Connell on your books - two players close to our hearts.

My first reaction on hearing about Warburton was "they're doomed" - but clubs like Brentford give the rest of us hope that we can make a breakthrough to the sunlit uplands of the championship!

Mate of mine is a big bees fan and agrees with you that the owner has the best interests of the club at heart but reckons he's making a huge mistake with this. Look at how form as dipped already. He also reckons they'll be lots of support for the manager and potentially lots of abuse for the owner if this season really does fall apart. Southampton despite losing half a team had lots of money and international players, brentford do not. Regardless of what happens it's the timing which is wrong - crazy planning and ridiculously done.

Mark Warburton was aware of what was going to happen weeks ago. If all things had gone to plan, an announcement would have been made at the end of the season!

Unfortunately there was a leak to the Times who ran a story , everything seems to point to the leak being (allegedly) our sporting director Frank McParland (he is now on immediate gardening leave). Which accounts for the dreadful timing of this news.

I went to Charlton on the weekend to see us play against a team who had not won since NOVEMBER , we got smashed 3-0 the players looked like they had taken the rumours/news badly.

As for this weekends game , there will be a lot of support for Warburton, with fans singing his name (myself included) but we'll also be singing the owner's name too as i'd like to think we can see/understand the bigger picture.

I still think we can make the play-offs now we have clarity, but i wont lose any sleep if we don't this season. I'm just happy to be here!!

We'll wait and see but my hunch is that in 12 months time brentford will be in a lower league position than they are now.

With respect, and you're clearly a very sensible poster, red and white stripes aside, Brentford and Southampton are completely different clubs in the footballing hierarchy.

When I was your age, I used to enjoy the odd game of tennis. Or was it golf?
