Favourite sporting sides 17:29 - May 25 with 5395 views | 442Dale | A few on here talk of their support for other teams in football and other sports, so from an idea shamelessly nicked over on a Hill-loving forum.... Rules: you don't have to support a team properly, just want them to do well. Add more if you want, but at least we'll finally establish who else supports someone as much as Chaff loves United. Favourite sporting sides on 09:31 - May 26 by 442Dale | My mention of Hornets up until the early 90s was a sincere one. Used to go most weeks when they were doing really well about a year or so after moving to Spotland. In fact what put me off was when they reached the Super League, or whatever it was back then, and they clearly thought they'd made it. Their crowds were crazy for a while, bigger than Dale's and about 8-9000 when they played Oldham. Rugby was starting to get more exposure nationally and I got bored of it, the regime at Hornets gave no indication that they'd be a club worth supporting if their success continued. Which of course it didn't, and when they became rubbish again it looks like many like me weren't ever going to go back. |
as thinking about that this morning. It's astonishing that I've seen bigger league crowds at Spotland watching Hornets than I ever have watching Dale at Spotland. I don't know if its down to RU turning professional but there can be few sports that have fallen as far as RL has done, and I say that as a RL fan. I remember the days even in the 90s where tabloids like the Sun and Mirror would have weekly pull outs on RL on a Monday morning. Maybe its down to the direction of the Sport that the top few clubs retain the same popularity but below that the game is all but a shadow of its former self with no interest from the media / sponsorship.
Favourite sporting sides on 11:14 - May 26 with 1379 views | Ralphs12 | Foreign football teams: Ajax - Grandma bought me a rucksack as she passed through Schipol on the way to Australia around the time they won the Uefa Cup. Really helps that I now work for a Dutch company German Football has been great to watch recently if I had to pick a Favourite team it would be Dortmund for Klopps style of play - Guardiola really bores me. Rugby - I'll watch it if its on but don't have a team, prefer union. American Football - Have two close american friends one being a Seattle Seahawks fan (great year for them) and the other is a San Fran 49ers fan. So I pay more attention to those two. Ice hockey is my main second sport and I'm a Calagary Flames fan, growing up watching on channel five I think, they must have been the first team I saw or something because they have always been my favorite team even though the recent years have been poor to say the least.

I don't recall the media coverage that way Col. In fact, I recall reading the papers backwards, trawling through the football, and after about three turns you might see the Rugby League results in a small box next to the Greyhound results and the Speedway scores. Obviously, The Guardian may have been different!!

It's not exactly a sport, though, is it (apart from the versions you see in the Olympics). To be honest, it's football only for me these days.
