Just what do they do in training? 23:18 - Feb 22 with 830 views | PatfromPoole | This isn’t just a criticism of Juric. It was just as bad under Brent. But we have had all week to prepare for today. And yet the players look like they have never met each other before. You look at Brighton, clever interplay all across the pitch; in a different League to us. We get a few corners. Just hit and hope; no originality or surprise element at all. It just makes me wonder WTF they actually do at Staplewood during the week.

Just what do they do in training? on 08:42 - Feb 23 with 526 views | PatfromPoole | The "defending" was utterly abject again yesterday. How can a three CB combination concede that first goal? The second was just as bad. I still haven't seen the 3rd or 4th goals, and have no wish to.

Talk to each other to see which club they are hoping comes in for them this summer.

I watched the very short highlights on Sky this morning. How many times are teams going to be allowed to run through the middle of our defence en-mass completely overrunning us. We might not be tippy tappying it around there anymore but somehow I think we’ve got even worse!

Whilst I detested the football played under Rylan, like it or not we knew the style, and what he wanted. Under Juric just what ‘style’ or format are we trying to play? Seriously I am baffled. Having attended all the relegation battles of the nineties I can take the continual losing (and having poor players) PROVIDED the players put a shift in and get some challenges in. There is absolutely no commitment from this bunch of fairies. They are not even fit for Christ’s sake. Never in my lifetime did I expect to see us get battered at home by the likes of Brighton or Bournemouth. That is meant in no way to disrespect those clubs and I really do hope they can upset the establishment, but this just shows how far we have fallen. Sport Republic are getting away with it week in, week out with no repurcussions. Absolute tinpot owners. [Post edited 23 Feb 9:12]

One of the problems with our recruitment is that we've ended up with players who aren't physically capable of playing at a high level, regardless of how much training they do. Smallbone and Onuachu are 2 examples. They simply don't have the speed of thought or action or even the abilty to accelerate, which are necessary at this level. I'm sure they showed lots of skill at school and looked good in lower leagues, where games are played at a slower pace, but they shouldn't be here. Before we recruit any more players, we need to ask: Are they quick enough, can they jump and head a ball powerfully and can they stand up to being barged or pushed? Brian Clough said he would only recruit a player if he was a good header, because that told him a lot about what he was capable of physically. One thing that's stood out this season is how other teams have totally dominated us in the air, which has led to us being beaten easily at both ends of the pitch. They also win most of the 50/50 balls because they are quicker and stronger than our players. [Post edited 23 Feb 12:08]

Odd re Clough. He once said: "If God had wanted us to play football in the clouds, he'd have put grass up there", which makes one wonder why he insisted on players being good headers of the ball.

He might not wanted to have played football in the clouds but others back then certainly did. A manager realising he might need to combat a certain style of play that was at odds with his, imagine that!!

Yes. their defence during Clough's glory years was built around Larry Lloyd, who won everything in the air and, of course, up front he had Garry Birtles doing the same. But, as Pat says, with Clough's most famous quote, he prided himself on playing a passing game and not hoofing long ball up the pitch, which is what he felt Don Revie, his predecessor at Leeds, had done. My favourite quote of his was: "I wouldn't say I was the best manager in the business. But I was in the top one." [Post edited 23 Feb 14:34]
