Seems pretty obvious, but is really difficult to coach. Ray Wilkins always had that split second more because he always received the ball in space.

I think most are realistic that he’s unlikely to be here for the long term.
If we finish the season strongly I’d expect him to be gone in the summer once clubs deemed to have underperformed this season jettison managers and head coaches.

I remember reading Gary Waddock once saying that the biggest piece of advice he'd give to burgeoning footballers is to always be aware of what you want to do with the ball before you receive it.
Sounds simple, but in practice a lot harder to achieve in reality, particularly the higher up the ladder you go. And that's the sort of skill that separates great players from good players, and good players from average players. And average players from bad ones, and even the bad ones are miles better than Sunday league cloggers like I was! |  | | |

I agree.
The problem for us mere mortals is that to be able to know what we are going to do with the ball next we have to trust our touch and passing. If our touch deserts us (again!) and we can't set oursleves for the first or even second-time pass, the moment is long gone and then all we can hope to do is pass backwards or sideways.
By the time most of us know how to really read a game as we play it, and gain a bit of touch, and gain enough confidence and composure to move the ball quickly, the legs have gone!
It's why most people who haven't played football think it's a simple or easy game. It's not. The best players are really incredible. Even semi-pro players are streets ahead of us mere mortals. | |

We shouldn't waste these years, because imo he's top 2 in this division and the best we've had since Warnock, so won't be around for as long as we'd like. So far no other club with means has been savvy enough to come and get him, but it will happen at some point, and the board won't want to see him go wishing they did more for him. |  |

There is a huge amount of concern about Marti being 'poached' from us in the near future. While I understand the angst over the first decent manager we have had since Warburton, I feel the advice that Clive gave in this (yesterday) evening's Portsmouth preview regarding current results/performances is equally pertinent here. We simply need to enjoy the NOW that Marti is providing us with and not worry too much about the future.
We can't on the one hand, not want to be successful, while on the other, hope that that nobody notices the work our manager does in making us (more) successful. There is no point in stressing about him leaving. At some point he will, either by his own volition or by the club's.
As mentioned on a different thread, I having being following this nutty little club for nigh on 50 years (a mere pup compared to PinnerR) and have seen a hell of a lot of managers come and go in that time. The greats stand out in the memory, Sexton, Venables, Francis, Warnock. The dross also for the opposite reason (Take a bow, Mr. Hughes) -while the mediocre (the vast majority) have slipped my mind . My point is, sooner or later, Marti will depart and be replaced and on and on it will go. In the meantime...breathe... and enjoy. | | | |

I think he surpasses Warburton by a long way.
Two things will make his departure easier for me if/when it happens:
1) Goes for as much £ as possible
2) We have replacements lined up. We should have a shortlist of 3/4 managers ready to go st all times. | | | |
