Who Will Be The Victor ? Wanyama ! Monday, 24th Jun 2013 17:20
If media reports are to be believed Saints are still in the hunt for Victor Wanyama from Scottish champions Celtic.
Earlier today it was reported that Saints were losing out in their bid to sign Victor Wanyama from Celtic and that although a bid had been accepted by Celtic, reportably anywhere between £10 - 12 million, the deal had broken down due to personal terms being unable to be agreed between Saints and the player.
That seemed to pave the way for Cardiff City who were alledgedly tempting the 21 year old kenyan with a more money than Saints, however news stories thi afternoon are saying that the deal is not yet dead and that Wanyama's representatives are still in talks with Saints.
From a Saints point of view of course its good to be linked with a player rated as highly as Wanyama, however I would say its not a deal that we would be desperate to do in the fact that we have adequate cover in the central midfield defensive role that the Kenyan plays, hopefully that should ensure that we arent held to ransom over terms, from a playing point of view it would be nice to strengthen, especially with a player who is versatile as Wanyama can also play in the centre of defence, but its not essential.

There are so many stories about this now, but most have been regurgitated by other websites. BBC have reported this evening that Wanyama's reps are currently in Southampton. All the other websites are repeating what the Echo said this morning, which is therefore what Wanyama said yesterday. I think the move still has some potential. Looking at the other websites most people think that he is too good to come to Saints, and having watched clips of him in the Champions League he does seem to have the potential of Viera/ Desailly. If we want to push for higher in the League then we will need to rotate, having Spiderman, Cork and Wanyama rotating around would be fantastic. My worry is that if he does sign it will be for money and not for the club, he could be a potential problem in the camp if it doesn't go well for him.

Agree with Nick, nice player to have on the books but another central midfield player is not a priority...so why are we starting to look as tho' we chase exciting talent before deciding where we most need to strengthen...especially after an apparently good start with Lovren!

If this player wants to play at Saints he should be telling his agents to get the deal done not bickering about agent fees or whatever. These rumours and if true will not make him very popular at Saints should he ever turn up. We want good players to wear the shirt not just turn up for the salary.
