I will never forget Villa away in 2008, the night before my 25th birthday. It was the League Cup rather than the FA Cup, but it was a team a division above us at least. |

Farke to Everton, Beale to Leeds please. |
| Forum Reply | Rob Edwards sacked by Luton at 18:24 9 Jan 2025
Seemed to take ages between the initial reports and the official announcement. I wonder if there was a protracted negotiation to reach mutual consent and avoid a big payoff, and part of the deal was the biggest praise of a sacked manager I have ever seen in a club statement. |

I can forgive the officials for missing it at the time, but yes, retrospective ban not unrealistic. It looked at least as bad as McLean's last month. |

With no midweek game immediately before or after I don't think we'll change much at all, other than to get the right number of minutes in for players returning to fitness. Walsh might start, and we might give Smyth some recovery time and start Saito instead, and perhaps Colback will start instead of either Morgan or Varane, but other than that I think we'll keep to the same team so we can continue the momentum we've got straight through to the Plymouth game. |

I don't see how that could be handball under any interpretation of the rules, old or new. But if it is, then that's the Watford away penalty evening itself out. I watched their games against Sheffield United and they should have been given a pen for handball but weren't, so now all is right in the universe. Top six I'm not bothered about this season, but finishing above Watford would be a decent achievement. |

My hope for this season is to be mathematically safe one or two games before we're mathematically not making the playoffs. |
| Forum Reply | Off Topic - The Impossible? at 13:16 3 Jan 2025
Nothing's impossible, but they're at the back of a substantial queue that even Everton aren't that likely to get through. More chance of Forest finishing in the top 4, and probably more chance of us making the playoffs. I'd say Man City are the highest placed team who's not in contention for a spot in the champions league next season, and Man United are the lowest placed team who's not in a relegation battle. |

Cardiff, Stoke and either Plymouth or Luton. Probably Plymouth although I would prefer them to stay up, and with a manager they could have a chance. |

I don't know if it was the last time, but the 5 home wins that kept us up in 2012 (Arsenal, Swansea, Spurs, Liverpool, Stoke) were pretty hard to forget. |

Rather than getting rid of anyone (our injuries should make it obvious why that would be a terrible idea), I do agree that some of our younger players would benefit from experience z especially if they can get it in League 1. Walsh, Lloyd, EDB and Santos coming back with half a season of regular experience would be huge for us - much more useful than the occasional bit of cover they might provide here. Any permanent departures can wait until the summer. |
| Forum Reply | Promotion to the Premier League is tough. But is survival effectively impossible? at 16:39 2 Jan 2025
I am going to suggest again, even though it's not a very popular idea (though no-one so far wants to express why) that parachute payments must be bought with a points deduction. Say -1 point for every £10m received, with relegated clubs choosing any amount in parachute between 0 and the maximum allowed. In fact the ratio should be match the penalties for P&S breaches that other clubs might pay. That allows clubs to protect themselves from being destroyed by their premier league wage bill upon relegation, without giving them a ridiculous (and in light of P&S rules unfair) advantage over the rest of the Championship. |

I wouldn't take a draw if offered before the game, but I wouldn't be devastated if that's what we end up getting either. That said I probably would take a draw if it came with a guarantee of no new injuries. Based on his performance on Saturday I think Fox will do us proud tomorrow, but I hope we can get JCS some more minutes. Frey and Chair too. Maybe even a cameo for Colback. I am not going to request a minimum percentage of possession. All I ask is that we spend most of our time in possession within shooting distance, and not just Smyth's shooting distance. You Rs! |

Well I'll give you credit for finding a creative new way to slate some of our players needlessly, especially during a really positive run of results. This post might have made more sense when we were wondering where our next win was coming from. |
| Forum Reply | Was Prestons goal totally against the morals of the game at 19:51 21 Dec 2024
The simple answer is no. It's for the ref to decide whether or not to stop play. That said, I'm sure we can each think of a different occasion where a PNE player has successfully defended an attack by going down and feigning an injury. Perhaps that's what made you wonder. |

For a thread titled Baroque and Classical there are a lot of Romantic and 20th Century composers mentioned! For me it has to be JSB for Baroque and Haydn for Classical. |

If accounts of people who insist they remember their past lives are anything to go on, only incredibly famous historical figures get reincarnated. |
