Cortese is a driven man. It's not just NA that he's let go & don't forget he would have had the 3 years remaining on his contract paid up, but he's also sacked and forced out other staff as well. NA was well liked by ALL staff throughout the club and now I suspect that the atmosphere within is far from happy. |
| News Comment | Focus On What We Want at 21:30:15
I agree with MLT on two points; the timing of NA's sacking, and shoving the new manager in front of the camera with just his interpreter. Other than that NC is not daft, Markus handed complete control to him after convincing him to buy our club and we have sung their praises ever since. He bought in Pardew, which proved to be a good move, sacked him for whatever reason and bought in Adkins to which some of us queried. Since then we have not looked back. Most of us would be happy to just stay in the Prem but NC wants more than that! He doesn't care what the press says and doesn't care what the fans think either. Time will tell, but so far he hasn't put a foot wrong. |
| News Comment | Season Ticket Prices Announced At St Mary's at 13:50:49
I think some 1st round cup games used to be included a few years ago - someone will probably clarify that one. Simm400: I've had a season ticket for 16 years and will renew. I was purely making a statement. A good answer for anything but rather flippant. The past few seasons have been reasonably priced for the standard of football and I don't see many people being put off as football fans being what they are, the hard core will always be there, but why the difference in ticket price for various parts of the ground? For me, in a new stadium like St Mary's (unlike the Dell) you can get a good view of the game from any seat -it only varies from the front to higher up at the back. |
| News Comment | Season Ticket Prices Announced At St Mary's at 20:10:54
From £20/game last season to £30/game next season. A fair price for a Premiership game but that's a 50% hike! So much for promotion to the Premiership being worth £90m in funds for the club, it's another dip into the pocket for the loyal fan! |
| News Comment | The Season's Verdict - Central Defence at 22:20:05
What's the point of analysing last season if you are not, at the same time, looking towards next season? Last season has gone and now we face a tougher test. It's evident from the article that we need a new central defence! |
| News Comment | Why No Sharp ? at 21:15:16
...and Nick, please read your article through before you hit the return key! What on earth is the "hampionship"? |
| News Comment | Why No Sharp ? at 21:12:50
Billy Sharp has been given plenty of chances to shine and hasn't done so. David Connolly is a quality player and is better than Sharp. At the start of the season it was the Connolly-Lambert partnership that got us off to a great start. I agree with tiptop, Sharp adds nothing to the first team and is merely a good back up. Nick - you are still evading the issues in the previous article, are you afraid to address them? |
| News Comment | Saints At Hull The Verdict at 22:01:14
Nick, you don't like Harding end of argument and nothing will change your mind. You keep on referring to the corner that Harding conceded at Pompey, and so blame him for their goal! What about the first goal we conceded at Millwall? Where was Fox? Many times he goes missing on the left hand side of defence where he's supposed to be and fails to block many crosses. He gets the nod over Harding for his superb assist rate on which we all agree. We can pick faults with many players and also list their attributes. The defensive record is credit to the defence as a whole and particularly Davis & Hooiveldt. |
| News Comment | Saints At Millwall The Verdict at 11:51:22
Two changes for Tuesday night - Aaron Martin for Fonte & Harding for Fox. Fonte is looking too slow and uncertain at the moment whereas despite Fox's excellent record of assists, a lot of the time he's nowhere to be seen in the left back position giving the opposition too much space down our left hand side. |
| News Comment | The Barracking Has To Stop at 11:38:41
Totally agree Nick. Although his form has dropped slightly at present, Guly was one of our best players in the first half of the season. I can only think that because of his Brazilian demeanour, it looks worse when he loses possession giving the impression that he's not giving 100% when as you point out, no worse than the rest of the team. |
| News Comment | Saints V Barnsley The Verdict at 21:46:59
Saints did what they had to do without breaking into a sweat against Barnsley. The first half may have not been great but Barnsley were not able to manage 1 shot on target throughout the match. Another 3 points on the board and it's on to Millwall. |
| News Comment | Saints V Ipswich The Verdict at 20:31:06
bstokesaint; yes I'm amazed as well but West Ham have dropped 19 points at home this season and have won more away. It seems they are very nervy in front of their own crowd who seem to get on their backs quite early on in the game when things aren't going to plan. They've really got some tough games remaining at home as well. Reading's run has to end sometime - hopefully this season! COYR! |
| News Comment | Saints V Ipswich The Verdict at 12:29:43
Agree with Whatsforpud. I don't feel we have too much to complain about after the way in which we robbed Leeds but last night we should have easily been at least 2-0 up at halftime as we had 3 attacks and a couple of corners in the first 4 minutes. No probs with the team selection although I don't think Guly has been as good in this half of the season. Richardson didn't seem to get forward as much as he has been doing and in the first half everything was coming down the left hand side. The passing is nowhere near as good as it was at the start of the season either and I'm beginning to get the feeling that our final games which look quite tough on paper, will see us drop into the playoffs. Please Saints prove me wrong! |
| News Comment | Form Is Back On Track at 12:28:07
Lots of twists and turns yet I'm sure. Anyone know what the injury is to Lallana? I hope Cardiff can pull themselves up after the CC Final for the game against the Hammers next Sunday, as they looked knackered. Even the Hammers can find themselves being dragged back into the play-off places, but everyone is going to be scrapping for the points and it looks like Saints are up for the fight. It's going to be a nail biting couple of months ahead. COYR! |
| News Comment | Saints At Birmingham City The Verdict at 08:19:48
The last 10 or 11 games need to be forgotten and should not be dwelt on. We are 2nd and the team seem to be getting back to form so let's look forward! It was a good point on Saturday and it was a shame that it wasn't a 3pm kick-off or even lunch-time one(thanks Sky!) because it would have been played in near normal conditions. I think West Ham were lucky to have their 2nd goal allowed in their game and they don't seem to be playing that well albeit with 10 men for best part of the game. With our form improving and hopefully Lee and Sharp both settling in soon, I'm hopeful that we can take 3 points off them on the 14th. With Saints spirit returning we have shown in the last two games we can put up a battle having played two of the top sides in this league. The most important thing now is to win at home on Saturday. COYR! |
| News Comment | Saints V Cardiff The Verdict at 05:46:47
The arguments about Fox & Harding are getting boring. Fox & Cork may not have had the best of games on Tuesday but they have been good for us this season, especially Cork who's been one of the best. It just highlights inconsistency and our brief loss of form. I believe both De Ridder and Guly have injuries. It's tough at the top and you can't expect teams to run away with this league, it seems that teams take turns in having good runs, maybe West Ham's is coming to an end and hopefully Birmingham's will on Saturday. |
| News Comment | Saints V Cardiff The Verdict at 11:10:57
A fair report Nick. A little frustrating that we didn't take our shooting opportunities and as you say, we kept making one pass too many. Replace Connolly with Sharp and I think those opportunities will be taken. We still seem to be getting ourselves into trouble trying to play out from the back and the distribution from the back line wasn't that great. I don't know why you think that the team spirit has gone, there's nothing to suggest this because the spirit certainly showed in the 2nd half so I think it's just a confidence thing. We really need to forget about the last 10 games, they've gone and are over and done with. It was important that we didn't lose last night and with the result at Portman road, we earned a valuable point. After all is said and done, it was hopefully the beginning of a return to form and I think the next few fixtures won't seem quite as daunting. |
| News Comment | Saints At Millwall The Verdict at 12:18:56
A bit of a mish mash team at Millwall so I think a draw was ok despite conceding late on and we were under quite a bit of pressure. Seems to me that we could have good competition for places in our squad now with new acqisitions and players coming back from injury/suspension. Hope we see a different side (mentally) against Cardiff than we did against Leicester. COYR. |
