TODAY V BRAINTREE TOWN
at 13:31 30 Sep 2024

I'm not sure if I was watching a different game, but I really don't think Braintree were much the better team. I think it was a good team who didn't turn up vs a poor team who didn't have the quality to capitalise.

I think we were absolutely dire for 90 minutes and would've been battered against any of the better sides in the league. HOWEVER, we would not have won that game last season and that is a massive step forward for me.

It's no comparison and with only a fraction of evidence, but both games against Chesterfield last season I wasn't impressed with how they played, quite underwhelming. They went on to win the league by 12 points and losing 4 of their last 5 once they'd wrapped it up, so should've won it by a bigger margin.

This is also no defence of the playing style as no matter what minute we take the lead we seem to try and shut up shop, but we're sitting at 1.91ppg. If we keep up like this, is it a terrible playing style or just an effective one? I know it doesn't seem it but we're sticking with the leading pack. We can't play well every week like the performances against Woking, Aldershot, Hartlepool. What we can do is grind out results like Saturday.

I believe that wins and points on the board will bring new fans as opposed to the brand of football on the pitch. It might wind us regulars up, but Tom, Dick & Harry who haven't been for 10 years see that Rochdale are 4th in the league and think it might be worth the £20 to pop down.

TVOS - Rochdale v Dagenham & Redbridge
at 09:17 16 Aug 2024

The only semi-feasible explanation for the decision is that if people have to go into the club shop to purchase it before the game, it does give the club a chance to upsell on other memorabilia.

From a commercial standpoint, they might think it will help increase individual purchase value, which could outweigh single sales of TVOS.

From a logical standpoint, I think it's pretty ridiculous.

New kit?
at 15:44 31 Jul 2024

I had a question put to me a couple of seasons ago by a mate about the stripes and how we seemingly just added them to our kits for no real reason.

We've had them periodically throughout history, including the centenary which I get, but there's no rationale as to why we have had them for 7 of the last 10 years. I grew up and have the nostalgia of the Carcraft/Keytech kits, hardly any of which had stripes and I think are the most attractive for fans of my era.

The stripes really limit the design and with the big black stripes the Crown Oil sponsor in red looks abysmal, so whilst it wasn't my first choice, I'm happy we've moved away from the same design season in, season out.

Niall Maher on trial at Bradford, so looks set for a stay in League Two possibly.

You're right in us needing CB's and another striker, however all of last season we were essentially running on 2 midfielders in Gilmour and East which couldn't happen again for this season, especially with no Keohane.

We still probably need another right-back as well talking about Jimmy.

New Kits 24/25
at 15:11 18 Jul 2024

Cambridge by far and large the best set of kits in the whole football pyramid.

Man & Bristol City's away kits closely follow any of them with Boston's home kit being the best in our league.

Honourable mention to the AFC Wimbledon GK top.

How does a change in league format take you from back-to-back titles to 4th bottom with the best academy arguably on the planet? It's almost like he implemented his own playing ideology over the two years and saw the results.

That is genuinely the biggest achievement of his career in professional grifting.

Uchegbulam gone to Oldham?
at 15:22 3 Jul 2024

Oldham seemingly have a post on their website titled "Jes Switches to Latics" with a shot of Uchegbulam in their new away kit.

Appears they've scheduled the announcement to go live at 4pm but haven't hidden it

EEL Stays
at 09:44 6 Jun 2024

Given how good he was during his loan spell with us them years back, I've got a bit of a warped interpretation of what I expected when he returned.

The relegation season was a stinker and I'd have thought we'd try to get him off the books then. The fact that we're in the National League and he still isn't a standout centre-half is a bit of a worry for me.

He played 30+ games in League One only 2 years ago, with Shrewsbury fans surprised they let him go at the time. His performances last season, whilst okay, we definitely shaky and for me, he didn't redeem himself from his nightmare League Two season.

His regular gesticulating to fans to get behind the team when we're 2-1 down to bottom of the league for instance, only to pass the ball between himself and his other centre-half for the next 3 minutes is something that he needs to cut out.

Thankfully, we might be in a position where we can take a chance and hope he comes through with solid performances unlike last season where we couldn't entertain passengers.

I'd offer contracts to John, Gordon, Jimmy K & Hendo.

Think John has been outstanding this season, especially after a nightmare year in League 2.

I don't think you're finding much better than Gordon at this level, especially with a possible re-sale value at his age should he improve, and given he was linked to both Man United & Liverpool only 3 years ago, that's quite possible.

Keohane speaks for himself, however I can see a League Two team taking a chance on him.

Hendo scored 11 goals and got 2 assists, averaging a goal contribution every 189 mins. I feel that's more than worthy of offering a living legend one last dance, although if I was him I'd be inclined to drop a couple of divisions if I was to carry on.

In terms of letting go:

EEL - best of a bad bunch of CBs (Nevitt aside), hasn't redeemed himself from last season nevermind whatever league wage he is still on.

Clayton - although I do rate him, not keen for having a passenger who's possibly one of our biggest earners?

Sinclair - hit and miss. Would rather have him than Jez, but wouldn't be overly sad to see him go.

Rodney - good stats at the back end of the season, however I don't remember a particularly good performance? I actually think he was quite poor. Impressed he came back so strongly goalscoring-wise, which I suppose is all that matters, and hope he can stay fit wherever he ends up but I don't think we should be taking another chance to have a key player out for over half a season again.

There's a lot of gaps to fill, but we're already in an obviously much better position than last season, even should nobody renew their deals.

Building for next season
at 10:15 27 Mar 2024

I think looking at that, I'd be offering contracts to Keohane and possibly Gordon and letting the rest go. I'd also be trying to get Uchegbulam off the books.

EEL hasn't redeemed himself from last season for me, I'd expect him to be better than he's been playing at this level. As much as I like Rodney and feel for him, in a brutal world we can't be carrying a player who might miss over half the season again, as good as he can be. Clayton has been okay when he's played but I feel there might be better and cheaper options, same with Sinclair.

Hayes won't be coming back, a move higher up the pyramid for him.

I'm not expecting to go up next season, but I'd like to think going into the season after we won't see as much change to the squad as we've seen for the past 5/6 years.

Dale Trust Meeting With WSH LLC
at 14:39 14 Mar 2024

"If a sale were to go through, then the ownership company would be revealed. It will not be WSH LLC."

Cloak and dagger once again with a decision favoured by SG.

This may be normal procedure for takeovers, I'm not sure, but with the amount of shady dealings we've seen over the past 5 years it's not out of order to suggest that we need to know who is coming into our club.

Everything seems genuine and the proposal all pretty much makes sense, but I'm sick to death of having to second-guess every statement or comment due to a sheer lack of transparency. Maybe that's just football now.

TFC respond to WSH exclusivity
at 18:49 12 Mar 2024

Transparency is literally all we need here, but that’s something we’ve never had from this board.

Anybody who owns our football club, or at the moment THINK they own our football club, is a custodian. As things stand, there is more than one voice that needs to be heard when choosing the path our club goes down.

Why the WSH bid has gone to exclusivity needs to be the news, not just the information that it has. This decision will shape the future of the club, and it may be the right bid to accept, but we should all know why.

Exclusive period with WSH
at 14:01 12 Mar 2024

100% agree bud, however there are 1000's relying on a good deal for Rochdale AFC and only 1 person relying on a good deal for Simon Gauge.

The football club MUST come first, and we can't currently trust SG with that.

Exclusive period with WSH
at 13:18 12 Mar 2024

Information surrounding both bids, and any further bids for that matter, need to be accessible to all shareholders immediately.

As I've mentioned on another thread, there needs to be a lot more people involved in this process than SG, and in my honest opinion, SG should have limited involvement in the decision.

The representative who came into the Sandy on Saturday from the TFC bid was accompanied by a former director who I'm led to believe had some "choice" words to share about our chairman before standing down. If there is any underlying feeling from SG about the former director who appears to be possibly linked with TFC, SG can't, as far as I'm concerned, be impartial to look at which is the best deal for Rochdale AFC.

I have defended SG on numerous occasions due to the financial commitment and personal abuse he has suffered over the past few years, but after comments at the EGM coupled with the actual running of the football club he has very little, if any, stock left with me.

Whichever way we go with the bids, Simon Gauge can't have an operational role in this football club going forward.

I feel like this is the right time now, with at least 2 parties signing a letter of intent, that SG hands over the reigns to the Trust to finalise a deal that is best for the club.

Be involved obviously, but there needs to be a more independent party involved in these negotiations. I saw somebody point out that Simon is the chairman of a fan-owned club, not the owner and that is totally on the money. He has a vested interest in getting the best financial deal, which he is entitled to have, but that doesn't mean it's the best deal for the club.

This offer with the golden share, for me, pips the other solely based on that, however I can see that The Football Club LLC have been trying to buy a professional club in Britain for a while. Why haven't they stepped forward well before this?

We need answers from all interested parties on their intentions for the club and they need to be vetted by multiple bodies.

Whilst I fully agree that there’s is an issue somewhere and something needs to be done, can I just point out that Trust board members ARE in fact voted on by members at the AGM.
