I must admit I really enjoyed watching Liverpool's 4-2-4 formation against City. Because the front 4 press and then drop back to defend and the way the back 4 push up to support the middle two no one is ever very far away from the ball at either end and they hunt in packs. Obviously it needs discipline but it seemed much more effective the 3-5-2, 4-4-2 and everyone's favoured 4-2-3-1 formation. I wonder how we would set under a 4-2-4 formation?
Spot on review as always. I would say 3 more wins out of 12 games should be more than enough this season. We should... do that comfortably, despite the run of games ahead. Looking forward to perhaps coming higher than 16th which apparently triggers an automatic open top bus parade.
I don't think Paal is that bad. I think he was unsettled at the end of last season and probably still is. I can't fault his efforts. He works hard but does sometimes switch off.
I think it is a bit unfair to single out Paal on this performance from the team. What baffles me more is how he can speak almost without moving his lips? And being slightly out of sync without actually being out of sync?
Hope he signs a new contract. We need a centre forward. He has such good awareness up front. Give him the number 9 shirt. But in all seriousness, he sometimes looks more aware, comfortable and dangerous when he goes forward than most of our forwards.
Glad Varane is in today. We know how good Hayden is. It will be interesting to see where Varane is in terms of his improvement this season against a very similar senior player who we know very much helped keep us up last season.
Derby signing Kemar Roofe on a free is interesting. He is a great footballer and goal scorer but his injury record is horrendous. It's an interesting gamble.
I think we have to give Celar the benefit of the doubt when he returns, which may or may not be this season. He was vastly improved in his last 2 outings before the injury. I'm sure he'll be very keen to impress on his return.
