Do Dale not have the dubious distinction of having an entire contingent of fans arrested off the train to Halifax, back in the day (circa 1980)? Or am I dreaming...
It's been a funny old season, in the way football's meant to be.
Perhaps it's no coincidence, but two of City's three nearest neighbours must drop into what was the old Fourth Division. We Biffos really never recovered from our catastrophic start, in spite of playing, under Wellens, (earlier on) some of the better football seen at BP for a while. You also have a team which appears to have greatly underperformed. In spite of a rousing late comeback v. Spurs, you have leaked injury time equalisers and winning goals with what appears to be depressing monotony.
Come Saturday night, one of us will be down and I honestly don't have an inkling who it will be. I won't feel like posting on here should it be us and I certainly won't be gloating if it isn't. We're two of a kind, or at least two different incarnations of the same thing. So here's to Rochdale and our 'minor' rivalry - whichever divisions we're both in next season.
The dickhead brigade which attaches itself to Latics for these "derby" games is indeed unfortunate, but this appears to be a wider trend and one borne by the over-sanitisation and over-pricing of top level football. In another era, they would have eschewed the lower leagues in favour of Old Trafford or Maine Road.
A pity, because the bulk of the Oldham fans are sound and without the shenanigans and the pitiful songs our away support would be very classy.
Balls to Tottenham, balls to wembley, balls to VAR and balls to the Premier league. Here's to proper man football and you staying up. Not withstanding the thumping we're going to give you at Spotland...
Enjoy the moment, for sure, but I've a feeling "in me water" that you'll make top 6.
As to our game, didn't go, but we absolutely battered them (apparently) for 75 minutes and had one disallowed before they pegged back against the run of play. But yes, a deserved equaliser and a good point in anyone's book on a Tuesday night at Vale.
We are playing well but just not getting the rub. Not TOO worried about our position at the moment...
