At the professional level it’s about having the various muscle groups being able to work at their optimum level for the duration of the game and if they’re not at that level of condition then you’ll see muscle tears or strains. That’s why so much effort and money is put into the medical depts. |

As you’ve mentioned our capital club I thought I’d have a look on a site of theirs to see how desperate they are at the moment, and they’re desperate alright but there is a brilliant post titled ‘Are we currently a massive club?’ which was posted at half-time today. Shouldn’t be surprised I suppose but it really is odd |

This is everything he said wouldn’t happen under his leadership. How many times did he mention integrity and honesty and how it was the difference between his party and the previous lot and surprise surprise it’s the same. He’s a multimillionaire he doesn’t need his or his wife’s clothes paid for or for that billionaire to be given a pass round no.10 and as for the Arsenal box, simple, donate the £10 grand to the pensioner’s. And while he’s at it get the rest to pay for their heating on their second homes rather then the taxpayer paying. How many own goals can one man score and we’re not even five minutes into the game. |

Anyone know Yates’ contract agreement with Derby, i think we’ll need him back in January |

I’ve said before I think LW is a mid table manager unless he gets lucky and the club bring in higher quality players which isn’t going to happen, I’d be happy with mid table. The game the other night kind of showed the managers limitations in my opinion, perhaps as the season progresses and the new players settle in it might show that I’ve underestimated him, I’ll be more then happy to be proven wrong. The goal Vipotnick scored was a classic centre forward goal, gamble by making a run to the near post, get in front of the defender and hope he’s been seen and the cross is quality then execute the most difficult part by putting it away and he did that perfectly. The point I was making was in that game he made hardly any attempt to make quality runs and whether the ball actually got to him is irrelevant as he can only do what he can do to influence the teams final ball options and if they don’t see them that’s not his fault. I’d rather have seen him being substituted after 60 minutes because he knackered having made those runs, at least he would of done his job. Perhaps the new lad that’s arrived will change the midfield dynamic which will have a positive effect. The only person to come out of the game was Bianchini who worked hard to impress the rest were very poor so I wasn’t picking on him but giving my opinion on what I thought was obvious and would be seen by others. |

Never said he was the root of our problems, he isn’t but lack of effort and tactical awareness is unacceptable for any professional. Possibly when he’s fully integrated into the team he’ll show us what he can do and be a top signing, who knows. I’ve said before I don’t think LW is a poor manager but I also don’t think he has the level of knowledge to structure the tactics in a way that gets the best out of the team though I still think we won’t go down. Still don’t understand ‘bridge’ |

I didn’t bin him I think he just binned himself with that level of performance. I don’t think anyone knows his ability levels or fitness but lack of effort is totally unacceptable. Don’t understand the ‘bridge’ comment |
| Forum Reply | Vipotnick at 23:16 28 Aug 2024
Totally disagree. He hid for the whole game, he made no runs past defenders, he didn’t create any angles to receive the ball, he didn’t make runs to move defenders about to create space, he didn’t go and receive the ball and bring other players into the game, he didn’t attack crosses into the box, he was shocking. You can’t blame other players for not supporting him when he never did any of the above |
| Forum Reply | Vipotnick at 22:58 28 Aug 2024
I’m not talking about his overall ability and all players have poor games but it is totally unacceptable to play in such an in affective and passive way and his reading of the game was also awful and the most obvious example was the great cross from the left wing from Grimes which he just had to make a move across the keeper, who had to stretch to get it, but he kept at the back post hoping something might happen rather then making it happen. If he’d gone for it and he put it over the bar we’d all have a moan but at least he would have tried to influence the situation. I don’t know, perhaps he’s still getting up to speed, getting fitter, perhaps I’m watching his game and being over critical, who knows |

I know he’s highly regarded by the club but he was awful again tonight but I’m not sure what his role is in the team, does he? Is he an attacking wide midfielder or a central one, is his job to sit a little deeper to cover, does anyone know? What did the manager tell him his role was, perhaps he didn’t listen, perhaps he wasn’t told who knows. |

That must be the worst no.9 performance I’ve ever seen. No wonder he hardly ever touches the ball as his movement is non existent. I’ve never seen such a static centre forward, it was shocking. He makes it impossible for a team mate to find him in fact he makes almost every ball into the box look really bad, how can they find him when he’s stood still constantly, he was/is awful [Post edited 28 Aug 21:59]

Watched Oxford last week on the telly and they were really good certainly didn’t look like a team destined for the drop. Coventry are excellent and play the game in a way that we can’t and are not setup to and have better and more influential players all over the pitch. If we want to compete at the top end the club need to spend, simple really |

We rarely see us transition from defence to attack quickly, we rarely have runners attacking down the middle, we rarely see us attacking with a quick break out of defence, we rarely play the ball out wide quickly to create 1 v 1’s, we rarely whip the ball in early from the wings, we rarely load the penalty area at speed, we rarely have runners going beyond and turning the defensive line, the players rarely play with imagination. I don’t know why as I’m sure the players have the ability to do all this and more, perhaps as the season progresses we’ll see it happen. I think we have a team which should easily finish mid table but the manager has to let the brakes off. |

Ok it’s against a L2 team, ok it’s difficult to raise your game, ok there’s far more important games coming up but that game was awful. No problem with retaining possession and taking the sting out of the opposition but that was taken to the extreme level of extreme. In my opinion this was a free hit for the manager to send his team out to play in a fast, exciting expansive way which you’d expect a L2 team to struggle to contain and to get the team into a mindset for the weekend. Possession football is a must for me but it has to be possession with purpose otherwise what’s the point. I hope as the season progresses we’ll see a more expansive style as we have players who can exploit it and would see us into comfortable mid table finish but does that fit into the managers philosophy. |

To emphasise the point I was making about running beyond defenders has anybody seen Burnley’s first goal. I just don’t feel confident we can score goals like that but the windows still open…. [Post edited 12 Aug 20:47]

I saw the second half and Wednesday did play well, moved the ball quickly, got it out wide quickly to create 1 v 1’s, players driving forward through midfield, a different team to last year on that showing albeit first game. I thought Plymouth were shockingly bad, their body language was awful with Whittaker being one of the worst if not the worst on the pitch. The manager came out in the press with some strong words about the performance but is it just the Rooney factor showing itself early [Post edited 12 Aug 20:39]

Cheers but even though I’m really disappointed with the lack of a pattern to our game and being concerned about the ability of the manager I still think we have the players to get us to a comfortable mid table finish and I’d be happy with that and with a couple more signings who knows what could happen. |

I agree and I suppose should wait until the window closes but the team hasn’t got dynamism or athleticism or strength so the performance is often stodgy and tedious to watch because of that. Defenders don’t want to be turned and run behind but we haven’t got the players who can do that anyway so the game is constantly played in front of them which makes their lives much easier. Grimes and the defenders look for movement ahead of them when they have the ball but it’s so limited the ball has to go either square or knocked long losing momentum and the ball. The manager has to look at the tactics he employs to overcome this but I’m not confident he has that deep level of knowledge to be able get round these problems. Having a playing philosophy is all well and good if you’ve got the players to play it, if not he has to adapt but can he. |

I did my achilles, it’s a horrible injury and was brutal to get calf muscle and achilles working together again |
