Just seen BBC's Match of the Day FA Cup round-up.
They state that Robbie Stockdale and the rest of us may feel justifiably aggrieved as both the Plymouth goals should not have happened in the manner they did.
For the first, their Plymouth No 9 was clearly offside and in active play prior to the header.
For the second, the ball blatantly outside the corner kick quadrant, as had occurred often this afternoon.
Looks like both ITV and the beeb are well on our side at present - which is nice.
Doesn't really make up for the opportunities not taken, of course. Onwards.......to 2022. |

Funny that Robbie S mentions the pitch size, Yorkshire. My lad was saying exactly the same about both length and breadth, particularly as we oft watched a switched-wing pass run out and quite a bit of bunching of players on the sides.
However, I mentioned that Mansfield's ground is the oldest professional ground in the Football League, dating from 1861 (recognised) and possibly earlier.
Prior to pitch size minima and maxima being introduced, it's possible that the ground area was what was available at the time of construction. At 114 yd x 70 yd, it is on the shorter side in both dimensions.
Also, a great shame to hear about the M1 trouble. Southbound near to the Mansfield exit it's still reported as being like a car park even now. |

Just back from the match. Cost me £25 plus a further £19 for my 19-year old youngest plus £3.20 for parking. At half-time, I was wondering why I felt that £23.60 had been a complete waste. It was very stop-start with lots of injuries, feigned and genuine. O'Connell played with a cotton bud in each nostril after being clattered in the 2nd minute defending a rare set-piece from Mansfield.
Beesley should have scored from Morley's superb low, floated cross but I don't think he was expecting it to reach him as it beat the defender and sailed on by.
Second half was a different story for both teams. We had a free kick in the 1st minute and then 3 (poss 4 ?) successive corners in the first 5 min.
Not surprising that we scored a beauty following Done's fast break down the left and with a chance to shoot himself, Done made a quick unselfish pullback for Cashman to rifle home low as he ran in.
Intense pressure from the Dale fell away as a series of stoppages broke momentum. At least 10 minutes stoppage time overall. Their equalizer came from a perceived offside call followed by lack of concentration from Dale midfield and defence.
Two points thrown in my view but a better value entertainment for the second lot of £23.60.

I've just got back from sitting by the Trent, too, Chalky after several recent weeks of biscuits.
As a "Country" member, what irks the most is remembering my last live game on 7th March 2020 - pre-lockdown but still a difficult choice to make as to whether I should travel or not.
I was glad I did as we knocked Rotherham 3-1 into a cocked hat, looked like a side that should be nowhere near relegation and indeed, that weekend, escaped out of the bottom three to remain so.
The initial irony, of course, is that Rotherham were still promoted - for what turns out to be a fleeting season.
Further irony is that for that game, we had a striker who later departed under various cloud-like forms, was named as this season's April's player of the month in League 2 and - who knows - we may have to face next season !
Aaargh - such fine margins. |

"...And a hashed clearance from Savin in stoppage time was punished by substitute Conor Shaughnessy who slotted into the empty net from 40 yards."

Regarding the lack of specificity of currently employed tests, there is at least one company (BATM Advanced Communications based in Israel) whose products outshine anything that's being used in the UK.

In July, the company announced a five-gene test (rather than the typical three-gene offering) that in less than 60 minutes, can identify and differentiate between all prominent respiratory viruses. It can target and identify not only the spike (S) gene in patients with low viral loads but can also differentiate between ALL known variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, other coronaviruses such as the common cold and flu.
Why on earth Porton Down has not taken offerings like this this on board, tested them and approved them for use over those it has done is unfathomable. |

Well, of the 8 League matches I've been to, we've done the following:
Won 1
Drawn 5
Lost 2
and obtained 8 points - which more or less coincides with the season's figures.
In the bulk of those, we were by far the outstanding team but couldn't convert the dominance into goals and/or points.
Resting on drawn games is rarely an option - and hasn't been this season so far. |

Just had the renewal papers through.
Yes - it's a 25% price hike for my Country season ticket in the Main Stand compared with last year.
Still decent value even taking the travel costs on the chin. |

Personally, had some luck and unluck today. Left Sherwood Forest at 11am, ETA Rochdale 12.50pm. Actual arrival at the ground 3.40pm. A1 closed, avoid and divert to M1 (required section closed), leave M1 and cross-country to Huddersfield, M62 Westbound a car park, chose A640, didn't even get to Denshaw before met road block courtesy of artics that had left M62 but were too big to negotiate the 90 degree bends on the A640. Turn round and go back to Huddersfield to join M62. Crawl to J22 where sadly a fatality had occurred earlier that day on the other carriageway. Having escaped at J20, maniacal giggling follows as Roch Valley Way resembles car park.
Arrived at seat to hear that I' d missed some dross but was just in time to see Rathbone's equaliser.
Then was privileged to see a most entertaining second half.

Decent enough and entertaining game - real dominance from Dale in 1st half and huge attacking pressure for the last 15 min. Not surprising that Scunny were booed both at half- and full-time.
From my seat in the middle of one of the long stands ... (checks ticket .. Clugston Stand), the supportive noise from the travelling Dale fans was truly impressive and must have made an impression on the players on the pitch - keep it up ! In contrast, the Scunny fans were practically silent, a single, short-lived rendition of Hi-Ho Silver Lining being their only attempt at encouragement.
A statistic that will stick with me is that Humphrys was only brought on for 3 minutes yet he managed to fire off 3 shots, of which 2 were goal-bound but blocked and one that went high and awry. He could have been a magical substitution but surely he needed to be on much earlier. |

Absolutely agree about the lads' efforts, Frenzied. I'm quite content to have made the 200-mile round trip today.
Yes, of course, 3 points would have been just reward and we'd all have felt a bit better if just one of those close-range shots had been made a few milliseconds earlier or later.
But the players are equally flummoxed and frustrated when their efforts don't always reap the spoils. Exchanged brief consoling words with Humphrys after the game and it was clear that the whole team still had great spirit.
Still not worried. Up the Dale. |

Watching BBC live text, time stood still for 10 minutes; between 29 and 39 minutes, every other League 1 game was ticking by but the clock stopped for Dale's match. Felt as though as I was holding my breath for far too long and then suddenly there were was a burst of reporting as Inman and Cannon both went close. Fitzochris and his Dambuster mode seems to have said it all so far. Conversions in the second half please ! |

Ah. Genuine thanks for that clarification. I had always puzzled that the miners' strike didn't start until 1972.
Let's hope that any current opposition managers' views on Spotland's facilities aren't taken on board so easily ! |
